Stanley Park Cycle

Next to the famous Spokes. Very good price. No extra charge for the bike with gears. Happy with the rental. Come to $ 15. Easy rental & quick procedure. The only bad thing is that the lock won’t stay locked in the holder. It keeps falling outward, interfering with my paddle. That lock cost $ 2 to rent. I’d definitely rent with them again, minus the lock (or maybe get the one that sit in the back. Not hanging by the water bottle holder spot.)

We’ve gone here twice now & I will return again because they are no-​hassle. They have always had whatever equipment our family needs and they’re always friendly. Also, they are about as close as you can get to the Stanley Park bike path, so any kids in the group don’t have to walk their bikes very far. Renting cycles & helmets from Stanley Park Cycle, then taking a ride around Stanley Park, is a good game-​plan for any visitor to Vancouver.

The have a 10% off discount for students renting out individual bikes, but for only 2 hours. My brother and I, both being students, were set on getting the student discount so we could save some extra cash (ok it’s only like $ 5 but whatever). We left at around 3:55 PM that day (according to my watch) and we got back at around 5:55 PM.
You’d think we got our discount and we were all happy right? NO otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this review. Apparently the time starts when you first go up to the desk to rent the bike. It’s NOT the time when you actually get the bikes outside, get your helmets, get the locks, baskets etc. So the employee decided that instead, we had started at 3:45 and not 3:55 and charged us 2.5 hrs, instead of what I thought had only been 2 hours. We explained to him that in the beginning, our bikes were delayed (they had to switch out a 2 single bikes for a tandem bikes), we needed to adjust and get new helmets etc. but the employee was adamant that he would not give us the 2 hours.
Fine. But did you really have to give me that horrible attitude while smirking that we went over 2 hours?
But then they didn’t return out ID (which was used as a security deposit for the bikes). We went back to our hotel, realized we didn’t have our ID, then went back to the store. The same employee with the really bad attitude insisted that he had returned it to us, and didn’t even want to look through the stack of papers he had to look for it. It wasn’t until we called the manager that they started to look for my ID. And then it turns out that they had shoved my ID into the cashier box. WTF? And during this entire process, the employee was extremely rude– he refused to apologize and was incessantly stubborn that he was right.
Is that something that you’d like to deal with on vacation?

TLDR:
The service here is really the worst I’ve ever experienced. It’s not just that one employee that we interacted with that I was unhappy with. Even the employee that helped us in the beginning was not very friendly and just not the same level of friendliness and professionalism that we got at the other bike shops on Denman.
If you do decide to come for the price, make sure that 1) you check the time with them before you leave to go biking and 2) that you get your ID back afterwards.
Lesson learned.

Honestly, I think I went here because I was too lazy to cross the street to go the place I went to before. Big mistake. My experience here was one «what the hell?» after another. It was one of the cheapest places on the block, and they had a discount for students. We got our bikes right away and everything was fine at first. After biking a bit on the Sea Wall, my friend’s bike seat just wouldn’t stay up and she had to keep getting off to readjust it. None of our other bikes had that problem, but it must have been very uncomfortable to bike like that for so long. When we got back to return the bikes after 2 hours, we noticed a couple arguing with one of the staff because they were charged for a whole extra hour for 15 minutes past the hour. The manager didn’t seem to be very understanding and insisted that they paid the extra hour. When it was our turn to pay up, we unfortunately had a similar experience to the couple before us. Everyone in our group is a student, however the student discount did not apply to the ones that were still in high school! To make matters worse, to get the student discount, payments are cash only. We were not warned beforehand, nor was there a sign that stated this anywhere. What kind of bogus rule is that? Why should high school students pay more than «adults»??? I will definitely not be back. Go to Bayshore Bike Rentals across the street for a much better experience.

great little shop! they are like half the price of the high end competition. they had a nice variety of bikes and let us pick what we liked best for the same price. we rented for a half day, got totally decent bikes and rode all over the city. no problems. yes, they charge a couple bucks for a lock. we didn’t do it and never needed it.

I am glad we decided to rent here as I was really happy with my bike and it was cheap.
But it should get more like 3 stars because of one of the floor employees had a huge attitude and was plain rude. He was so bothered when we requested another basket! I also accidentally (to let another person walk through on a busy sidewalk) pushed one of the parked bikes that took down another two or three bikes with it. Sorry dude– domino effect! Nothing happened to any of them. Stop staring at me with so much aversion! On the other hand the guy behind the counter who was super friendly.
$ 15 for 5 hour rental! $ 2 more for a basket to put your purse in and another 2 $ for a lock. They take credit cards. Pay when you return the bike, but have to leave your ID with them. They have mountain bikes, cruisers and hybrids. It was my first time riding a hybrid and I highly recommend it for the park and city use.

Prices were pretty good, you do have to pay an extra $ 2 each for lock and helmet though. Came to $ 24 pp for 8 hours, which we thought was a pretty good deal. I’m not sure if it was a really cheap seat or just that I haven’t ridden a bike in 20 years, but my ass hurt sooo bad by the end of the day. I was hurtin for a week.

Their prices lower than elsewhere, but their service and bikes are also a step below.
The website deceptively lists an hourly rate, but there’s a 2-​hour minimum and other rates for more than 2 hours. Still, that 2 hour rate is roughly half that of Spokes (the only other place I’ve rented from). They offered us mountain bikes despite marking down hybrid bikes on the rental form. I asked for a street-​style bike and got what I asked for, but the bike guys didn’t seem happy to fulfil my requests.
Their bikes are in decent shape (responsive brakes, good tires, work fine), but they look a bit… old. Much worse: some of their helmets had cracks that went all the way through.
If you’re looking for cheap bike rentals it’s not a terrible choice, but if you want any luxury with your bike you’d better look elsewhere.

Rent from these guys twice so far and love their prices. 3 – 5 hrs rental was $ 21 with free parking. If you haven’t been downtown it’s a pain to find parking. Friendly service, and many selections (all types for kids riders or carriage for babies)

There are two addresses, the other is at 687 Denman street where I have been. The policy is a non sense. First, I tested an helmet too narrow and they have just one size. Are they professional? or maybe the safety is useless for them. Second, the salesman wanted to keep my photo ID. I refused but he said all the rental shops make this. I went to spokes on the opposite and they didn’t ask me a photo ID. It’s stupid because why they took my imprint of my credit card if they want to keep a photo ID. So they are liars, not commercial and not professional.

We were tourists. So we needed to bike around Stanley Park. This may go without saying.
But where to go to get a not-​shitty bike for not a lot of money?
Forget Spokes: it’s overrated and overpriced. Go to Stanley Park Cycle instead. Service was super fast and friendly, prices were low and policies were upfront. Our mountain bikes were sleek and good looking and in perfect shape: I felt like a professional cyclist next to the tourists tottering around on bikes whose gears and brakes were making a racket.
I highly recommend Stanley Park Cycle.
