Mediocre café. They close too early which it impossible to stop by after work. An hour before they close, employees more interested in getting ready to leave than serving.

Amazing place! Décor is stunning, coffee is great, food is good — what else do you need? Love it!

Q. How does one improve on perfection. A. You just do. I’ve been a fan of Platform 7 on Hastings since I first popped in after seeing this quaint coffee shop on Unilocal™. Fallen in love with it is more like it. Stumptown beans and perfect lattes and delightful pourovers in a lovely train station setting, with personable service get me in my car to east Van to enjoy some alone time. I’ve spoken with the owner over the past year and he’s just a rad dude who loves coffee and his creation in the heart of Hastings Sunrise. I got the scoop early there would be a second Platform 7 coming closer to my hood. I was waiting with anticipation. Well yesterday I made the journey to Platform 7, Station No.2 Kits. — What a gorgeous space with cheery lovely baristas. It felt like community and nostalgia. We ordered a latte, a columbian pourover, a veggie sandwich on cranberry bread and a salted choco chip cookie. The latte was smooth and flavourful. The pourover clean to the palate. I forget the name of the sandwich but it was vegetarian with some nice cheese and Thai Chili. Platform 7, Station No.2 Kits You are the improvisation of the improvement of perfection. g

Full disclosure: I had sentimental attachment to location predecessor Higher Ground. Turkey avocado sandwiches. Mmm. There are two ways to be a great coffee shop: — Tasty food and decent coffee with comfortable décor — Awesome coffee This is neither. Dry and powdery croissants, very ordinary coffee, cramped layout and the faux-railway décor is tasteless. Sorry.

Very nice coffee, fresh toasted beans and with the right bitterness. Apple tart was great too. A little bad on HOT chocolate as it is not really hot

Way better than the café that was here before. Friendly staff. Jammed and packed every time I stop by so may be hard getting a seat. Try the nitro for something refreshing and different.

The second iteration of Platform 7, and it’s even better. The space is beautiful, very much like the one on Hastings. This one, however, has a corner location so large windows wrap around the place, allowing lots of natural light in. Modeled after a train station, kids will also like it here. In fact, I saw many young families stop in. They also have the sandwiches and the usual pastries(fresh pies!), as well as many methods of brewing for your coffee. They use Stumptown beans, which I like. I got my usual latte and sat at one of the tables near the window. The latte was perfect, not too bitter, and smooth. I really like the space here, the baristas are friendly, and I will definitely be back. Note: Winter hours are 7am-5:30pm.

This is probably closer to 4.5÷5 but I rounded up because I had a good experience here :) With today’s rain, I made my way out to get some work done before the gloom and doom trapped me into taking multiple naps(as is life when it is so dreary here in Vancouver). Read some pretty food reviews about this place and the concept of the train station really caught my eye! Came in around 5pm and it was pretty busy but managed to snag a spot at the window bar. They serve Stumptown Coffee here(from Portland) which was a nice surprise as I’ve always wanted to try it. I like their menu — easy to read with the different types of beans you can pick. The barista was friendly and very helpful in helping me figure out what method I wanted my coffee to be brewed in. He gave me a pretty comprehensive description of each of the methods(vs at some places they just tell you the name of the method without explaining what that means) AND he was knowledgeable enough to tell me what difference that made in the actual coffee brew itself. Super helpful! After being overwhelmed by all the different methods, he helped me pick a happy medium between the types so that I could try something right in the middle. I opted for the Costa Rica bean, brewed with the Hario V60(a japanese siphon method I believe). The store itself is super cute! The back portion is very train station like with arched trusses along the ceiling and each truss has sort of been made into a light box so it’s very bright. There’s booth seating along one wall which has some cute wooden slat benches and GIANT table tops.(Perhaps make some new friends and share one of the booths with a stranger? :P) My one reason for the 4.5 rating would be that while that back half of the store is nice and bright, the front of the store(albeit the half with windows) is soooo dark — there is barely any lighting in that part of the store, and the little lights they have over the window bar really doesn’t produce much in terms of brightness. I felt like it was a little awkwardly dark, not just for working but even if you were to meet up with someone — the contrast of light between the front and back of the store is a bit strange. I will definitely be back though! Maybe on a sunnier day when I can take full advantage of the giant windows they have!

While I still haven’t been to the original location, I was in the area and figured I’d see if it would live up to the hype. All in all the experience was good outside of not being able to pick up filters for my v60. The space looks great and the variety of brew methods available is impressive. You can’t really go to awry with stumptown beans although I’ve still yet to have a top notch stumptown experience outside of Portland. Nice job guys. Good to have another good independent in kits.

First time to new location and loved it. I just had an espresso but just like other location was a perfect shot. The food selection is just right and atmosphere is like being transformed to Europe. Good luck with new location but being you seen to care so much about your business and customers I think you will be just fine.

Fellow coffee snobs, welcome to the hot new Vancouver coffee shop. Nice moving to deep Kits only to find out they just opened up next door. Absolutely fantastic coffee with many different brewing methods. One of the few places that serves Stumptown. Good food and pastries too, and absolutely charming environment. Worth going out of your way for.

If you like train stations without the noise of trains coming and going then this place is for you. Its interior has the charming design of an old time station, making it a funky place to hang out. As for the coffee, like their downtown location, they use Stumptown Coffee Roaster, which I find to be a smooth medium roast. Generally I like dark roast, strong flavour, caffeine with a karate kick kind of coffee. The blend they use here is milder than what I’d normally have but I still enjoyed it and found that I didn’t need to add much to it. They don’t serve many sweetening or cream options. What was available for adding to my drink was raw sugar, honey, milk or cream. So if you like or need to use alternative sweeteners, you might want to bring your own. They also have loyalty cards, with the 10th coffee free. I suspect it won’t take me long to work my way up to a free coffee as I’ll be back here again soon.
