Waooo this is the place I want every day for my dinner only 9.99 for jug of beer, foods are yummiest in the town. I like the lobster the way chef he prepared for our dinner I definitely recommend this place.

Very reasonably priced sushi. Service is always good and the prices totally fair. We always order the bento boxes. Our favorite is the Combo D. You get miso soup, salmon, tuna and ebi sushi with a salad, chicken teriyaki with rice and 5 pieces of tempura. All for $ 9.95. A lot of food for a reasonable price. Also, a pitcher of import Japanese beer is $ 9-$ 12 depending on what type of beer you want.

Cheap sushi of mediocre quality. Large menu of standard sushi offering plus tons of extras(cold ramen, aburi sushi) plastered all over the walls. Should feel familiar to Vancouverites — your typical $ 8.95 lunch special kind of place.

Yes. Terrible. Most terrible Japanese Restaurant in Vancouver and probably beyond. Besides, it cannot be Japanese run. Impossible. Usually Japanese restaurants are very clean for starters. The food is rather cheap. My friend found a little worm in her soup. I had salmon belly and fried tuna rolls. The salmon belly was very greasy and the fried tuna roll was palatable with lots of wasabi on top. Our server was not wearing clean clothes. He was very unappetizing in his demeanour. When I went to pay I could see the«chef» preparing the food and it really did not look like anyone had ever heard of food safety. Never again. I am glad I didn’t get food poison.

Alright for when you are super hungry and the line at Toshis is too long. Or when you want to watch TV while you eat and your set at home is broken. Great if you have kids and you get there early because they may turn on a kids channel so the parent can actually eat. Food is OK. Go for something with noodles, teriyaki or deep fried and it will be fine. Not very clean. Decorations cluttered. Staff has smoke breaks out back around the garbage and broken chairs. Not really sure if anyone is. Japanese, I guess it doesn’t really matter if you just want to eat So basically if you are looking for a low key, diner kind of sushi place or a patio by a patch of scrubby grass that is never too busy and has cheap beer… This is the place for you.

I go there a lot now because my partner enjoys socializing. Well… this place is like becoming a Cheers bar. We sit in the same seat each time and we talk to the other customers sometimes that are nearby. They, too, are regulars. AT first, I thought it was just a «Hi, what is that item you’re eating». 2 hours later, we’re still having a conversation! Friendly customers, cheap beer and a casual place to hang out.

Pleasant neighbourhood sushi joint. Pitchers and sleeves of Sapporo are incredibly cheap, which is always a plus. The sushi doesn’t wow but it’s perfectly decent and a good value. The bento boxes and izakaya-style eat-in appy specials are particularly good deals. Friendly staff. During the warmer months, they have music player hookups so you can DJ your own tunes on the patio.

Sushi was okay but the service was terrible! Showed up at 7pm on a weekday and sat on the patio and the inside was empty. A guy came out promptly and gave us menus and took our drink orders and the drinks and some water came out quickly. 5 min later, a big group from the patio was heading out as well as the couple beside us. At this point the waitress came out and filled the water glasses for the people leaving while leaving ours untouched. She took our menus and went inside. 5 minutes later she returned to take our orders and helped a table of 4 get seated. So there were only two tables of patrons at this point. 10 minutes later my friends meso showed up as well as her first roll. I watched her eat for 10 minutes before my first roll showed up but now it was her time to watch me eat. 15 minutes later my second roll showed up and she only had to wait another 10 minutes for her second roll. We left after an hour, her salad never materialized and our drinks were never topped up. My water was gone before my first roll showed up. all that said, the sushi was decent. I’d recommend this place for take out. Another note: each side of the patio has its own speaker with a cable. Nice idea but I am not sure I want to listen to whatever the table next to me does nor having competing music on the two separate stereos.

Good sushi. Good price. Ok service bit could b better. I guess amazing service isn’t really sushi places forte. Overall good sushi which has made me return over and over. Cheap beer too which helps and a good little patio on main for people watching.

Cheap Sapporo pitchers and very middle of the road sushi — I’m down. Dropped in on a whim with a friend who was visiting from out of town. We weren’t super hungry, and were mostly just looking for a place to post up and chat over some drinks and a bit of food to accompany it. Nikkyu totally fit the bill. It was quiet when we arrived, and service was brisk and efficient. They didn’t seem to mind that we hung out for a while, and readily split the bill for us at the end. They have a pretty comprehensive range of options in terms of food, all of it offered up in that particularly haphazard cheap Vancouver sushi place way, with like three different menus and weird rules that apply differently depending on what time of day it is and DIY specials posters plastered all over the walls. Cleanliness seemed a bit suspect, as there were some huge flies buzzing around, but the yam roll was perfectly acceptable and the beer was cold, and sometimes that’s all you need. Plus, outdoor seating options are always welcome in the warmer months.

I was concerned at the low ratings prior to dining here. My experience here just goes to show that sometimes one has to check it out for themselves. When we entered the restaurant, my first impression was that boy was this a small restaurant. The ambiance definitely reflected this being a family owned business. Our group of 8 were greeted immediately, seated and tea served. When I first skimmed the menu, I immediately went to the combo menu and found my usual favorite so immediate locked in my dining game plan. Once ordered, the food came pretty quickly. We chatted with the owner for a bit and discovered that he had two other locations(one in Victoria and on on Commercial street in Vancouver). So, on to the food. My combo included Miso soup, green salad, 3 pcs of sushi, rice, teriyaki chicken, and 5 pc tempura. The meal I had overall was extremely fresh and flavorful. The tempura was fantastic! So fresh and crispy and the teriyaki chicken delicious. Only one guest in our group didn’t enjoy their meal. They had orders the yaki soba. It may have been personal preference as someone else ordered the same and enjoyed theirs. The meal portions and prices s were extremely reasonable. I would definitely come back if was in the neighborhood again and wanted Japanese food. Very cool that Bruno Mars dined there as well(considering this restaurant is away from the city center). They had his photo posted on their wall. As we left, I noticed that they had outside seating for the summer season. Very cool.

I was recommended this place by someone who worked at the record store that I frequent. I was hungry for sushi after a long cross border shopping trip in combination was not in the mood to throw dinner together. It is slightly more expensive than others, however, still cheap fast food in my mind. I got the basic avocado and veggie rolls, the usual with me which is hard to f*ck up in general. The place was bare quiet so I had the restaurant all to myself. They played the new Daft Punk in the background so that was a plus for me. Anyone who knows me knows that I have had an obsession with Daft Punk since 1997(I even dressed in the helmets for parties). Daft Punk + sushi won my heart. I can understand why this place got low reviews, however, as long as you stick to the bare basics you will be fine.

I live nearby but haven’t had a chance to check this place out, so when a groupon deal came up for it, I figured I’d give it a shot. The deal came with 2 large specialty rolls and 2 sakes. We ordered two appetizers and another roll on top of that, but were unfortunately pretty disappointed. We came in pretty late around 9:30 and were the only ones eating in the restaurant the whole time. First thing that put us off was that the tea was lukewarm. The bottle of sake came, it was sitting in a bowl of hot water which kept it nice and warm for us, but when the second sake came, it didn’t come with a new bowl of hot water(presumably, we were to replace it in bowl of now-warm water) so that put another damper on things. Finally, I ordered my rolls, but changed my mind about one of them partway through the order. I thought the server understood, but we ended up getting the original one anyways. Which was fine, except her taking our order was cut short by her going to answer the phone without saying anything to us and never getting back to us for finishing our order or confirming what we asked for. And finally, fulfilling my 2 sushi pet peeves, the rolls weren’t sealed all the way around, and the end pieces were missing filling. ARGH. 1 star for ridiculous service! But, it tasted alright and deserves a 3-star for that. I’d still recommend you go up to Sushi Mania, or even the mediocre Ryu across the street and 2 blocks down. Same food quality as Ryu but they have way better service.

I have actually never been here but have no intention of doing so. I purchased what appeared to be a great deal on Social Shopper(love these guys though). The voucher states that you can use one voucher for table of 2 or two vouchers for table of 4. Of course, I bought 2 because we have a couple of friends that we go out with frequently. I called the restaurant to make reservation(as required by the voucher) and told them I have 2 vouchers and that we are a party of 4. The person on the phone told me that I could only use one voucher regardless of the party size. This is not what the voucher states and I told her that. She said it doesn’t matter because her boss said only one voucher per visit. Period. Well, I cancelled my reservation and have just contacted Social Shopper for a refund.

Stepped in for a late lunch with a gift certificate from the good folks at My sister and I ordered from the lunch special menu where you can select either two items for $ 7.95 or three items for $ 10−11…there is also an option to add a salad and miso soup for an extra dollar. We went for the three item plus soup + salad since we expected the portions to be similar to all-you-can-eat. The sushi items were definitely better than the cooked items. We each ordered salmon sashimi, which came in just fine… slices are Sushiyama-esque and fresh enough without being special. The dynamite roll was fine and I was surprised to receive 8 pieces of negitoro roll and for it to be inside-out style. The hot items we ordered were assorted tempura(a little overfried) and pork gyozas(super under-average even for an ordinary item). Miso soup was a bit weak but it does include seaweed and tofu. The restaurant was very quiet at that time and service was fine, not particularly friendly but all of our needs were met efficiently. I live closer to Broadway where I have many choices if I’m craving sushi so it’s unlikely that I would return. I’d prefer to rate this as 2.5 if it were possible… it’s passable but if you have the will to walk a bit further, consider the other options along Main, etc.

I come here most of the time because it’s closer and less busy than the better places. Food isn’t bad, fresh some days and not so much on others, but I don’t think it merits the amount they charge. Service is brisk and impersonal, which is one of the things I like about this place. I don’t feel obligated to make small talk. All in all an okay place to sit down and eat if one is too lazy to journey further to better eats.

The food is isn’t bad, but nothing special. My biggest gripe is about the service and cleanliness. Not very friendly at all and even heard one of the staff give another table attitude. The other table was a table of 3 people, 2 older ladies and a little girl. Yes, maybe they were slower because they are old, but who cares! Don’t lose your cool on seniors, they are old and one day you might become that way too. Another thing that grossed me out were the 2 house flies flying and buzzing around on the window we were next too. That doesn’t whet the appetite.

Because my friends and I refused to wait an hour for Toshi Sushi just across the street. We decided to take a chance on Nikkyu. Needless to say, we left happy and satisfied. The sushi was decent and cheap! I ordered a tempura ramen and that was pretty good actually. My friend said he really enjoyed their teriyaki chicken, saying that it was the BEST he’s ever had. I don’t know about that but it was pretty good though. Their romantic dinner specials are pretty awesome. They have a unagi rice plate for $ 10.50 and they’re really generous with the unagi and sashimi. We also ordered sake and they were doing a buy one big hot sake get one small bottle for free. How could we say no to that? The service was prompt and helpful. The restaurant’s pretty small but we had no trouble getting seats. I’d rate this place four stars but the owner(I think that’s who he was) pretty much kept dissing Seattle, and when you have four people who live in Seattle visit your restaurant, that is NOTCOOL, mister. Other than that, solid food for a good price.
