Moderne Burger

Note: this review is based on the turkey burger alone.
Ordered one for take out. Gentleman on the phone was very pleasant. Picked it up and when I opened it, had to figure out how to best hold it considering the bun had gotten so greasy. Took my first bite and was seriously blown away by how overcooked and rubbery the turkey patty was. It was so overseasoned i couldn’t taste anything but salt and some other spices. The toppings were light until I got about a third of the way through and was greeted by a thick (½″) double ring of onion (this really pissed me off because it just exhibits laziness). Not the way one would expect to enjoy a moderne burger. I pulled out the onions and was left with a sad, rubbery, overcooked burger, scratching my head as to why I just paid $ 9 for this.
The ambience is cool. The owners are nice. The shakes and fries seem to be good, but man… The burger (at least the turkey) was a major disappointment.
Front of house is great, but some QC needs to take place in the kitchen.

Ugh. I wish I could just eat here every day. The husband and wife duo that run MB are incredible. They remember you and are so warm and welcoming. I’ve come here on a couple dates and with a girlfriend and they somehow always remember you; unreal! The burgers and fries are delish, and so are the milkshakes! The coffee milkshake is a must-​try! Nom nom nom :)

Came here for a pickup order. The staff was really nice, but the food… not bad, not great. I would recommend eating in, not taking out, so that you can enjoy the atmosphere. The food itself is fine, but nothing to write home about. Prices, however, were very reasonable. Especially given the fancy part of town this diner is located in.

Lately, I always craving for burgers and looking for good one to try. I found Moderne Burger also high-​rated, so I gave them a try.
When I walked in, I saw the décor quite back to 60’s-70’s. Just causal diner place. The staff told me to get seat at anywhere I want. She also told me their burgers are made fresh daily and fries are cut and cooked to order.
My mushroom burger and fries came but I was so disappointed. The patty was dried and overcooked. The fries just warm.
Overall, good friendly staffs but not good enough for me to return for burger.

Finally got to try out this place. Milkshakes were thick and creamy and enough to share. Booths are tight for four adults. Fries are fresh, but we got a lot of little bits. Burgers were tasty enough for me. Juicy meat cooked nicely. A homemade feel. Ambiance was fun and helps make up for the plainess of the burger. The one washroom was clean. Jukebox was cool… you don’t have to listen to 50’s music. I’d rather come here instead of white spot if I’m in the mood for a burger and shake.

I went here today with two friends and had a great experience. First of all the restaurant was bright and clean with a 1950s vibe. I also liked the instructions for eating a burger on the menu. I had the turkey burger, which was seasoned nicely and well sized. Bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and special sauce that tasted like ketchup. I just which I got a pickle instead of the olive on the toothpick. But overall a great experience and I would go back to try the beef burger.

Wow. Love the ambiance of the place. This is a great spot with great attitude. We were here just add they were closing and they do close early but the burgers are terrific and the shakes are wonderful. This is also a great people watching spot in Vancouver.

I love coming to Moderne Burger for its tip of the hat to the good old fashioned 1950’s diner experience. The décor of this place is a time warp back to a simpler time. This concept ultimately speaks to the food as well.
As many have mentioned the burgers here are simply made, with no frills. Everything is handmade and fresh. No, you won’t get the intense fatty burgers or overly stuffed ones. It’s just a good, well made burger with mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Add your choice of extra topping and you are done!
I’m not a big fan of the fries, I like them a bit crispier, but they are thick cut and having them unsalted is a great idea!
The milk shakes, floats and malts are amazing. Try the coffee malt. Whoa.
Moderne Burger is full blown experience for the senses both visually and for your taste buds and you won’t feel like your arteries are clogging up either. Soak it in, chill, enjoy.

I’ll be back for another milkshake – served up properly at the right temperature with whipped cream and a cherry and extra shake in a chilled tumbler.
Adorable, authentic 1950s décor added to the experience. I also snacked on an order of fries – cut to order and not over-​salted. I’ll have to try a burger next time I’m in the neighbourhood!

Burger tastes like it’s from Costco I know they say made in house but they taste weird. There are a lot of better burger places in town. People who say it’s an amazing burger must have only had fast food or frozen to compare.
Went there once despite being advised not to, not going to make that mistake again.

The food at modern burger is outstanding. Everything is sustainably sourced and cooked without microwaves and heat lamps. The fries come from farm fresh potatoes and are delicious, I highly recommend you come here for a quality burger. I personally love the hand made veggie burger.

Yummy burgers, but nothing over and beyond. Love the fresh, home style fries. Simple, basic menu.
No high chairs or booster seats?! Had to woof down our food with our 1 year climbing all over us because we really wanted a burger. Guess they don’t like kids there! Will not be back, unfortunately.

Some may like the old-​fashioned vibe they’re going for here — a burger & milkshake type place from way way back. I found the booths a little snug, though there were only two of us.
Burger menu is quite limited which I suppose comes with the period they’re going for. We both felt the burgers were plain — for a place where these are supposed to be the specialty, they certainly didn’t live up to expectations. No real taste/​flavour — just a boring burger — disappointing. Fries were ordinary — but again, these are not the attraction. Price point for the burgers is on the high side for a restaurant of this type– $ 8 for just the burger, $ 11 for burger + fries.
Milkshakes were excellent. For $ 5.35 they better be all that!
Lastly I’ll comment on the service. The server was pleasant and patient with us. Our meals came in a reasonable time but we got a bit impatient waiting for the bill once we were finished.
I remembered this place being a lot better than our most recent experience. Unfortunately, I won’t be going back.

Retro 50s style diner with the decorations and the music to boot. The burgers are made fresh to order. Delicious and fresh ingredients make this a great burger. Fries are cut to order as well. Service is quick and courteous. They don’t forget you after you’ve ordered. Pay at the counter after your done. I’ll be back most definitely. Have yourself a moderne steak or turkey or veggie or salmon. Enjoy.

If you’re looking for a generic restaurant that has a burger option, cross the street. If you’re craving a serious, straight forward, top-​quality burger, this is the place!
First, the décor: very cool, authentic 1950’s late-​Art Deco. Lots of chrome! Booths are aqua/​turquoise vinyl, there’s an old jukebox, cool hanging lights, and the place is super-​spacious, adding to the relaxed, friendly feel.
The food: they have burgers, shakes, and sodas. Pure and simple, nothing pretentious here, just top quality, locally sourced food. Fries are crazy-​delicious, fresh cut and cooked, and not greasy/​salty.
The owners and staff mingle with customers, and everyone seems happy and friendly, it really feels like you’ve been transported into the 1950’s and are in a small town, family-​run diner.
You have the option to order ahead and do takeout, but definitely eat-​in at least once.

Fresh ingredients make a fresh burger, but something seems missing.

Worth the visit. Up there with Romers for the best burger in town. If for some reason youre craving the 80s diner feel, this is the place to be.

[Throwback Thursday]
There’s something I find quite charming about this 70s style diner. The checkered tiles, seafoam blue banquettes and the Marilyn-​style posters are a blast from the past — not that I’m really old enough to remember any of that. All that’s missing is a working juke box and waitresses on roller skates.
Their menu is very limited. In terms of food, it’s really just a burger that you can customize — 4 different types of patties and all the usualy fixings with a few extra. I ended up with the ground turkey burger. The burger alone is $ 8 but you can have the platter with fries for $ 11. I didnt find it as flavorful (or oily) as a beef patty and a little cranberry sauce would’ve done it wonders but it was still very tasty. The accompanying fries were fresh and tasted almost home made. Overall, it was good value for the price.
The second half of their menu is made up of drinks — milkshakes, sodas, floats, etc. This is the real feature here. It was a steamy 24 degrees outside so a Coke float was a must-​have. I haven’t had one of these since I was 10 years old and the creamy fizziness tasted like heaven. It would’ve been more nostalgic if it came in one of those old fashioned glass coke cups but we can’t have it all.
The service here is excellent. The servers were really friendly and chatty. They kept coming by to see if we needed anything.
Overall, the ambience and décor are what I’d come back for. It’s a really cool place to hang out and grab a milkshake or float.

My vote for best burger in Vancouver. I love that there is no seasoning on the steak burger, just high quality beef hand formed everyday with no fillers or binders. Ask the owners, who are there everyday, about the meat and the buns and you’ll gain an appreciation for this awesome diner in kits.
Cheese burger with fries is perfect. Ask for the «crack sauce» for an off menu dipping sauce for your fries.
