This used to be one of my Kits go-to sushi spots — but the service & food has gone downhill in a serious way. I was in denial about this for sometime — «it’ll be better next time» or «we’re all entitled to an off day» but I’ve changed my tune and I’ll no longer be singing for Iki… I’ll just tell others that the experience is indeed ICKY. I went this past weekend. My friend ordered 2 of the simplest rolls on earth and it took close to an hour; the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. How long does it take to roll up tuna sashimi in rice? This is not meant to be an LSAT question. My bento came out first, and there were way more elements on mine, so that was bizarre. My edamame was dry, unsalted and cold. It also had some questionable brown spots. The«salad» was barely dressed and going brown. The sushi rolls looked like they had been pre-made, and my yam roll was cold and dry. We all know that devilish fire tower is delish, but it’s not worth it anymore. I’ve moved on. Iki, you’re not coming home to meet my parents — I’m breaking up with you.

Iki is a sushi restaurant that distinguishes itself by offering an almost entirely gluten free menu. If you don’t eat gluten, you’ll likely love that GF items are the default here, in contrast to other places where they’re an afterthought. Even the tempura is made with rice flour and totally GF. If you don’t have any issues with gluten you’ll probably want to pass on Iki. You can get higher quality sushi and larger portions for the same price elsewhere in the neighbourhood.

Great gluten free Japanese! Yay I sooo missed sushi. The fire yam fries were to die for. We can’t wait to go back.

Great restaurant! Especially for tempura starved gluten sensitive people. Really great food. Nice staff. Good location. Why aren’t more restaurants doing what this smart little restaurant is doing? You don’t have to be celiac to appreciate wonderful gluten-free tempura and other fried delights.

I write this review not on the food. The food is great, especially if you are a gluten free/celiac diner. My complaint is the management. The Website gives you the option to order online which is great. However, I have gone on 2 different occasions where the restaurant was all of a sudden closed. The first time I chalked up to an unexpected thing. On Monday, I made sure I could order online and the website told me I could pick up at 5:15. When I rushed there for that time, it was closed. Please update your website or just update your operating hours. A sign on your door is not suffice. Especially when I make a special stop from down town!

Terrific sushi and amazing gluten free tempura! I haven’t had tempura in years because I have to be gluten free, but I love it so I was thrilled to find it here. The presentation of all the food was beautiful, staff were lovely and attentive. We will be back!

I will not go here again. They undercharged our party and when we were about to leave the waitress chased us down and awkwardly made us pay the difference in front of other customers long after we had paid our bill. Most places would just accept the error and move on… it’s not like Sushi is short in supply in Vancouver. I’ll go elsewhere.

We love Iki’s location and the service has always been friendly — but the quality of food isn’t quite as good compared with other Japanese restaurants in the neighborhood. For sushi, I have found the serving sizes small and the nori often chewy(not fresh). Some of their rolls are fun — but I’m not sure it’s their specialty(perhaps it’s more the yam fries and other fusion items?).

Why aren’t there any good sushi restaurants that deliver?! I took a chance on Iki out of desperation and against my better judgement — and wow do I regret it. Avocado was mushy and dark brown, tuna was stringy and smelled off, salmon tasted nasty, rice was stale… Maybe I’ve finally learned my lesson. Yuck. STAYAWAY!

We used to love going to Iki. It was our go-to sushi place on the west side but I believe maybe there was a change of ownership. For certain there was a change in serving staff. The service and the consistent quality of the food declined over a year ago so we stopped going. Also, since the changes there, we found the kitchen failed to prepare several of our dishes. And this happened a number of times. I’ll give it another go at some point to see if the quality returns but for now I can only muster two stars.

Ordered delivery from Iki; the lady I spoke to over the phone was great, and when I phoned back to modify the order she didn’t express any frustration! What I ordered: Box C(salad+gomae, edamame, brown rice, vegetable tempura, tofu teriyaki, yammy roll, miso soup) –Very little gomae, but the little spinach bits that were there tasted good –The salad was your typical garden salad dressed with a salty-sweet dressing –edamame and brown rice were standard, and small portions of each –vegetable tempura was not crispy –tofu teriyaki was salty, an ok-portion size –yammy roll(yam+avocado) wasn’t good. The yam tempura on the inside was tasteless, and very little avocado –miso soup wasn’t too salty and had a fair amount of tofu and seaweed pieces Spicy tuna sashimi –really really small portion :( Yam fries(half order) –Well, the presentation does not measure up to the Unilocal pictures(but that’s what you get for delivery!) –limp and soggy –basically tempura-battered slices of yam –wouldn’t highly recommend Everything was delivered within 30 minutes, give-or take. They also give you the option of brown rice(I believe they do stick an additional charge on there, but you’ll have to double check). I wouldn’t order from here again. I will stick to Jun’s!

Skip this place for a while. It seems to have changed ownership and the quality has declined 100%. My wife and I used to enjoy coming here once a month but won’t any longer. A couple of nights ago we ate there, the brown rice used in the rolls/sushi was terrible, mushy, way overcooked and inedible. After explaining to the server what was wrong, he offered to replace the order with white rice versions. We tried one roll with the white rice and it was the same terrible mushy consistency. The server tried to defend the restaurant by saying the rice was«new rice» and had more water in it that they suspected it would. At least they never charged us for the awful rolls. The yam fries were mushy too and hard in the middle. Won’t be back here for at least a year or never.

Bad: Lost reservation Where’s the water? Where’s the server? Where’s the food? :/ portions — umm is this it? Good: ok-priced Food meets the par Under-trained or under-staffed or whatever it is, it’s a small restaurant with a disappointing service. Not somewhere I’d be looking forward to go back, but might tolerate if my friend’s want to go there.

Came here for a late lunch bento and WHAT A DEAL. Seriously. I think my vegetarian bento box was $ 8 and it came with so many components I couldn’t possibly eat them all! I sure tried, though. Fresh edamame, excellent tempura with unusual veg choices like broccoli and eggplant(great), a delicious salad, yummy rolls, and the best tofu teriyaki I’ve ever had — they used a reasonably firm tofu, grilled it, added some shiitake mushrooms, and served it all with fluffy rice and a great teriyaki sauce. I was very impressed with the value for my money, and the service was also excellent. I tipped 30% and it still felt like a super deal. Also, even though they closed while I was in there(last customer of the lunch service), I didn’t feel pressured to leave at all.

Both the tuna sashimi and spicy tuna maki tasted fishy :( Lots of other options in the area, so I doubt I’ll be going back here.

Busy little Japanese restaraunt with a dark, cosy atmosphere. Bathroom is a little run down but clean and was once very modern with nice fixtures and automatic paper towel dispenser and automatic garbage can! Food was simply delicious with brown rice available at no extra cost! –Their bowls are delicious… I Love their healthy bowl with a healthy portion of avocado, nicely flavored brown rice, tasty seaweed salad, edamame and tuna/salmon sashimi. The other bowls looked really tasty and unique too. –The yam fries are stellar… Crispy and light, almost like yam tempura fries. –The negitoro roll was nice(maybe 3.5 stars). –The cruncy roll was surprisingly good with salmon, tuna, crab(fake), avocado and brown rice that was coated with tempura but it was surprisingly not greasy and was actually very nice and light. –The bc roll was very tasty but felt that was a bit too saucy. Overall the rolls are a little bigger than bite size, and very yummy. I was very satisfied. The price is very reasonable too. Service is fast and efficient. The restaurant is Located at a busy intersection right outside the 99 b-line bus stop. In the past this location has changed ownership many many times but iki has been here for quite some time; I think that definitely says something! Note: No extra charge for brown rice but Tea is not complimentary, its costs extra.

What a delicious stop along the bus lines! Though I raised my eyebrow at the«Japanese Bistro», I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food. I picked up some take out from here as I was rushing to get home, but the place inside is quite large, which a great space. My order included the grilled sablefish(which is an amazing dish, complete with a side of yam tempura fries — AMAZING), a wakame salad(strange, because it’s a pile of seaweed atop actual green salad along with some dressing on the side), and two rolls with the option to have brown rice instead of white. I picked the crispy mango roll and the 9th Avenue Roll. Both were good, but not amazing. Overall, I wouldn’t mind giving this place another visit — the sablefish and the yam fries are fantastic, and there are a lot of other rolls that I need to try(especially the«tarantura roll»!). Bonus for it’s convenient location and ease of accessibility via transit!

Saturday 1 pm Thursday I came around 7:30 pm and there was a line to get in. it’s a small restaurant. could fit approx. 50 people. So. I came back today to try it out for lunch. and I’m glad I did. In this laid back atmosphere the service was very polite, relaxed, and as the lounge jazz and folk music played my wait a pleasurable one. I ordered the Power bowl. Plated quite modern and neatly done, a row of each raw tuna, raw salmon, avocado, cucumber, seaweed, edamame, radish, ginger and wasabi lays on top slightly sweet brown rice. It comes with a large spoon. for people like me I guess who want to mash and mix it all up. I uploaded a picture of my mélange half way through eating. Wonderful! Overall the food is fresh, well priced for large portions, and it has many healthful(brown rice), vegetarian and vegan options. My bill was $ 11.50 for my bowl and green tea. I left feeling satisfied!
