This is a decent place. I ordered the basic avocado and cumber roll. It is close to my best friend’s house and it suits both our dietary needs, therefore, this was a win win situation for the both of us. Lots of seating, prices are decent and the customer service was awesome. It does get busy on the weekends since there aren’t a lot of sushi places in the hood, however, turn around is reasonably timely.

After going to Dunbar sushi for the first time, I forgot that there are a zillion other sushi places in Vancouver. The number of times I’ve been there got out of hand a long ago. They have a very welcoming staff besides their perfect food. Caterpillar roll is my go to order here, although ocean roll is my favorite. All the other rolls that I’ve tried are as amazing. Like their crunch roll and even their regular dynamite roll.

I have had my best sushi in vancouver here. Try the caterpillar roll. It is amazing. The service is good. Not great for big groups. It is a small place. Price is reasonable.

After a friend’s recommendation and after reading reviews on Unilocal,I decided to try Dunbar sushi. It’s a quiet little place just on 16th and dunbar you would probably miss it if it weren’t for neon signs in the window. The interior is quite small. the tables are really close together, but not too close for comfort. The wait staff is really friendly, very attentive and they came right away to serve tea. the service was quick, I didn’t have to wait long for my food to arrive after ordering. I ordered the spicy salmon sashimi, ebi sunomono, appetizer tempura, and a crunchy roll. The spicy salmon sashimi was delicious. It tasted fresh, with the right amount of sauce and spice. I’ve had other spicy salmon sashimi that was either overwhelmed with sauce or not enough spice, but this one was delicious. It’s served on a bed of spring mixed greens, which gives it a really nice touch of freshness as well. The ebi sunomono salad was your typical ebi sunomono. Fresh tasting with just the right amount of sweet and vinegar. The appetizer tempura was delish! It came out crispy and not drenched in oil. It was the perfect temperature, so I know that it wasn’t sitting on the counter for a while before it came out to me. The veggies were not over deep-fried. They still had a nice crunch to them and didn’t get all soggy. Finally, the crunch roll. The crunch roll is basically a dynamite roll with tempura flakes on top(Just like the description says). The crunch roll is a decent sized roll. Not too big where you can’t eat it in one bite, but not too small where you’re wondering where the rest of it is. All in all, it was a nice experience, and is definitely go again(Just not between 2−4pm when all the school kids come rushing in bumping you with their back-packs).

ordered california roll, spicy tuna and assorted tuna and salmon sashimi to go. price $ 19.69 including tax. roll sizes were decent, but the tuna and salmon sashimi for $ 10.95 was spectacular! 4 pcs salmon and 4 pcs tuna. large size and very fresh, excellent quality. order the sashimi — you won’t be disappointed. note — included in the order was a small box with a handful of lettuce and a citrus dressing.

I meet up with 2 friends after work at Dunbar sushi for some food. I’ve been eyeing this place since I moved back to the Dunbar area and finally had a chance to give this place a try. I wasn’t sure if I should expect super good sushi or meh sushi. And somehow it ended up In between good and meh. The spicy sauce for the spicy salmon sashimi was pretty tasty, I would eat that again. The chicken karage was okay… Didn’t come with a dip so I ended up dipping it in the spicy sashimi sauce. The miso soup was pretty good, tasty and not watered down. Rest of the food looked/tasted okay. Seeing how I love a block and a half away from here I can see myself coming back when I’m too lazy to cook. If you’re in the area and want sushi give it a go but it’s not anything that’s going wow your pants off.

I come here a lot and I love it. The food always tastes fresh and the service is spot on. The people here are friendly and they like to give out freebies if you dine in. Their fish is probably the freshest I’ve had in a long time, and it’s always cut nice and thick. You get what you pay for here. If you love sashimi, then this is the place to be. Thumbs up all the way. =)

This place has gone downhill. I love their food, and it was my favourite sushi place for a long time. But recently their service is terrible. Be prepared to wait at least half an hour for your pick up order. One weekend I called for take-out and was told the wait was 1.5 hours, what a joke. They clearly need more staff in the kitchen or something. Oh, and do not go during the Lord Byng high school lunch hour, because the place gets so packed with students you will be forgotten about by the server.

You can’t get better than this in our neighbourhood! We’ve tried every sushi joint in the Kits/Dunbar area and you can’t beat the price and freshness of Dunbar Sushi. While I was waiting for our order I watched the Chef work his magic and you can tell he takes pride in what he does. The sushi was placed neatly in the containers and the rolls were rolled with love and care. The Agedashi Tofu was delicious, the fish fresh and the sushi rice seasoned. We’ll be back!

Had a quick lunch here the other day and it was pretty good. Will have to return to sample other dishes but not during school days when Lord Byng students come during lunch time from 1140−1225pm. The place is tiny and at a busy intersection but there is free street parking prior to the right turn lane on w 16th.

Probably my favourite sushi joint in the area. It’s clean inside. Sushi is fresh and fast. They are generous with their freebies right now with it being fairly new. Prices are reasonable. I’ve been there twice in two weeks so far. Servers are very polite and prompt.

YES! Dunbar sushi recognizes me on the phone… I’ve decided that this is a good thing, though. Since as a new business, they entice returning customers with samples of edamame and veggie dumplings! I always get a yam tempura and an avocado roll, can’t go wrong. The best part of being a «regular» is the staff greeting you by name with friendly smiles when you come to pick up your sushi after a long day at work or classes. It would be nice to have brown rice option and maybe some more unique rolls, however this is a perfect addition to Dunbar and 16th! A convenient, quality sushi joint that uses fresh ingredients and has great essential sushi rolls, and is superbly priced, Dunbar Sushi is straight-up great.

Wow, what a nice find! Not the easiest place to find on west 16th, just opened probably last month. Asked the server what are the signature dishes, and he recommended the Awesome Roll and the winter Dragon roll, which i was a bit hesitant, but after he described that it was melted cheese on top of a California Roll with scallops on top, kinda baked but sure was tasty! as well as a bit spicey, which was awesome! they sure know how to start off with a bang – i was also comped a 5-piece portion of spicy tuna sashami, nicely sprinkled w/black & regular sesame too. I’m usually not picky into the dishware at these places(like i would at a fine dining) but have to say, i was impressed, same for the soya dishes, not those cheap white round ones, haha… Nice & clear décor too.
