Great place that I decided to try while visiting Vancouver. Owner is very friendly and the food was excellent. Definitely recommend the Single Combo.

Omg the topokki/​deokbokki (spicy rice cake with cheese) is so good I’m trying to keep eating it but the spice is forcing me to stop and take breaks lol. The people who run it are soo nice! There was an older Korean woman who didn’t speak English doing the cooking, and the woman behind the till knew I hadn’t been there before based on my clumsy attempt to order, so she threw in an upgrade of my kimbap (like Korean sushi) to half vegetable («classic») & half tuna (both were delicious) and also brought me a cup of fish cake soup to sip while waiting (which was also delicious!)! It felt like I had walked into a Korean family’s home, greeted with smiles, and was trying grandma’s cooking.

Owner seems like a great guy. Food is great. Some time you just have cravings for Korean/​kimchi flavored starch. And they sate it well. I see a lot of Koreans at the place. Which to me. Seems like w good sign :)
They seems to come in spicy and very spicy. Which is awesome in a cold Jan day.

A mainstay for many years on Daehakro in Seoul, Korea Chewy Peppers has arrived in Vancouver. It’s been featured on Korean TV, and has had many celebrities visit over the years serving up portions of it’s famous Spicy Rice Cakes (Ddeokbokki). If you are ever in Korea, and specifically on Daehakro, you might see this hole in the wall with a line up outside by the McDonalds which would be the original location.
At the Vancouver location, you’ll see various pictures and of celebrities that have stopped by the original Daehakro location to pose for a pic with Auntie Ok.
This is the real deal folks…100% authentic Korean street food that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. I’ve been to other places where they charge $ 20.00 for some ddeukbokki, and it just isn’t worth it. That is not all the case with what we have here.
Auntie Ok (pronounced Oak with a shorter ‘k’) is here until February 2016 to help get things started, so if you are able visit by then, you can be guaranteed to get the same thing you would have in Korea.
On the menu you’ll find things you’d normally associate with street food in Korea. You can’t go wrong with a helping of the spicy ddeokbokki topped with sesame leaves and any of the ggoma kimbaps. You can also get some boiled eggs, fish cakes with soup as well as some combination ramen with the ddeokbokki sauce on top.
You can get your ddeokbokki topped with cheese as well, if you’d prefer to have it ‘cool’ down the spice, or just want a richer taste. All the items here are seriously reasonably priced, and make for a perfect snack or want something with a bit of kick to it.
Will definitely be going back in the near future.

We tried this place because of the high ratings here in Unilocal.The menu is limited and I honestly was a bit weary. But after the owner explained the dishes and gave us samples. OMG sooooo good! Definitely all the previous reviews were accurate. We had the Combo. More than enough for both of us. We couldn’t finish it. The spiciness was perfect. The flavor if the fish cake soup was yummy! Both were beyond delicious. The owner was VERY NICE and educated us on the dishes he served. Try this small place… you will not be disappointed at all!

I have gone here twice, and love their service and food. The first time I went there, I got the combo which came with rice cake (dobboki), kimbab (korean styled sushi rolls), and odeng (fish cake in soup broth). It came in very good portions that could easily feed two people and was only $ 12 bucks! The second time I went there I was surprised that the guy remembered me and I ordered the same thing but this time got it to go. I would definitely recommend this place if you’ve lived in Korea and missing good old street food :)

If you want authentic street-​style ddukboggi, this is the place to go. Great food. Great service and the owner was super nice. My new favourite place for Korean street food.

We were on our way to Kingyo but then we saw this place…
It’s a very small lil snack place, with a limited number of seats inside and ouside.
They also have a very limited menu. Maybe 5 – 6 items?
My friend and I got 1 serving of the spicy rice cakes (we added cheese for free), two fish cake servings, and one mini kimbap.
The food was good. Everything was perfectly seasoned. The spicy rice cake sauce was actually really impressive and the pepper leaves + cheese made it extra yummy.
The only reason this place gets 4 stars is because the pricing is pretty expensive compared to other places that sell these korean snack dishes.
Service was good though, so I’ll probably be coming back again.

I’ve been walking by this place a lot as it just opened near my work. For a couple of weeks I kept saying «man, I should really try this place!» and as usual, I would forget about it until the next time I saw it. But finally I made a plan with a coworker to go and we did it! *pause for applause* The place itself is a little small, but we were getting the food to go anyway. I got the Chewy Combo which comes with their spicy rice cake and their fish soup. The owner was super nice and you can really tell he’s proud of his business. We got back to the office in record time and dug right in. The rice cake was chewy and delectable and the spicy sauce was flavorful and the right amount of spicy. The fish broth was clear, light and just perfect. The pieces of fish cake were nice too and not too salty — which is important. Am definitely gonna come back and try their 2 noodle soup. Only wish? That they had more stuff on their menu cause I know they’ll be delicious too.

Holy shit dude.
I had no idea what this was, so obviously I had to eat it. Still don’t know what it is, but I got the combo with the main dish (tastes like long gnochhi bathed in heavenly fire sauce) and the soup, some kind of fish broth with deep fried something.
This is amazing. I am going to eat it so often. I can’t wait to look up what it is after I’m done. So goddamn spicy and amazing!
Also, the owner was super nice! Like, way above average on the friendliness scale. Talked to me while he packaged the food, made sure I knew I was getting the spiciest food I’ve ever had, offering to swap out the soup for some veggie roll if I didn’t like fish soup. Awesome! Apparantly his mom is the original chef and some kind of Korean super celebrity chef bad ass? She was chill too.
Eat this. With your face. As soon as possible.

I was on my way for some ramen when i came across this gem of a place. I had the spicy noodle bowl and some fishcake soup! I have never had these Korean dishes before and was completley impressed. The spicy noodles are reminiscent of a hearty italian dish with a fiery depth of flavor. If soneone would have given me this dish blind i would never have guessed its origin (and i eat a lot of cuisines) The fish cakes were not greasy but light tender and swiming in well seasoned broth. Its great value and i will be back!

Terrific little spot in the middle of Robson. My Korean co-​eater was impressed («this is real Seoul street food») and that takes a lot of doing. We had the spicy rice noodles and the soup; both were excellent. Nice spot that we’d recommend trying.

I was so excited when I heard this was opening on Robson. If you like Korean food, you’ll love this.
If you are new to Korean food, check this place out. Korean spicy rice cake is one of the most popular snacks/​dishes in Korea; it’s a chewy rice cake in combination of a sweet spicy sauce. Absolutely delicious!!! They also sell tempura (deep fried veggies and shrimp etc) I can’t wait to try those next time.
Also, service was great. The owner was very kind and welcoming and she gave me free fish cakes and soup to try! Very friendly service I would absolutely recommend!!!
