Fresh, no frill bake shop. Minimal service but very friendly owners. 2 chai teas and a bag of the freshest nans I have ever had in GTA for $ 3 with change. Yes, Please!

Its a cute little bakery in East York Town Centre, I don’t usually buy things from there but I’ve bought traditional Afghan bread and a couple of kebab rolls, they’re good and run out pretty quickly. Although it’s not the main focus, they serve bubble tea, a large for 4 dollars which is REALLY good, their price and the tea! Even though it’s not fancy, its handmade and is absolutely delicious, better than any tea I’ve had! They put a generous amount of tapioca and jelly if you ask for it, sometimes however, they run out of tapioca, so make sure to ask before you order and the lady starts making the tea!

I have bought a chocolate mousse cake from them twice but it wasn’t good. It melted very quickly even kept in fridge for some time before the kids cut it. Kids didn’t much like it either. I also tried the veggie samosa but that was pathetic not even close to be called a samosa. The bakery is good for regular bread and pastries only.

I think this is the Yvonne Bakery in the mall at Thorncliffe and Overlea. There are a bunch of Yvonnes around town and this is the closest one for me to get to. It’s a slightly dingy looking little mall store, and very cramped. Grab a tray and tongs, load up with pastries, and take it to the cash. If you buy six or more you don’t have to pay tax. I’ve never had bad pastries here — the pineapple-shape cream buns are my favourite, followed by the almond twists and the sesame rice flour balls. Today I got an onion twist for the first time, which is a big fluffy bun with a sweet and salty glaze and lots of green onions in it. Really unique and fantastic. I also got bubble tea. Don’t get the bubble tea, really. The bubbles are overcooked and mushy, and the drink is an opaque, milky, cloyingly sweet concoction that I couldn’t finish. They didn’t have an actual tea flavour, just lots of different powdered-mix froot types. I’ll wait until the new Real Fruit bubble tea stand opens in the food court just down the mall before I get another bubble tea. In the meantime, I’ll keep getting those pastries from Yvonne.
