Absolutely disgusting– frozen rubbery fish. French fries tasted like they were cooked in dirty oil that never gets changed. Pajos down by the pier is much better. I couldn’t finish as it was so gross. Cute atmosphere.

This place was one of the best fish and chip places for many years but have gone downhill in the last 5 years. Very expensive for what you get. Pajos is the place to go to now in Steveston.

This food was awful. The place was busy and stuffy but we got a window table pretty quickly. We were staved and ordered the crab cake appy, the seafood platter and the calamari dinner to share between two. It was ALL terrible, tasted frozen and the oil in deep fat fryer hadn’t been changed since who knows when. The old oil made everything dark brown and burnt looking. The batter was too thick to eat on my crab cake, it was as hard a hockey puck. And mush inside. This indicated frozen product– at premium prices. The calamari was also too hard to eat and when asked the waitress admitted it was frozen. They wanted $ 17.00 for Costco –type frozen crap. The seafood platter wasn’t much better and after scraping off the ghetto-batter off, the portion of salvageable edible fish was meagre. We left hungry and disappointed. After asking to speak with the manager, who never came to the table, we got a deduction of about $ 6.00 on a $ 45.00 + bill. Never again and I advise you-all to avoid this place. Lucky for the owner that the tourists keep this place going.

It’s been a few years, so our memory was fuzzy. We came back for F&C, but this time… it wasn’t as good as we’d remembered. I had the mixed platter, and sadly, everything was dry. The seafood was overcooked and the crumb batter was bland. We also had some Cod at the table that was equally overcooked and dry. Chips were bland. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very nice meal at all. Service was fine. We were greeted at the door and seated quite promptly. It was actually quite busy. We noticed that there were only two servers for the entire restaurant, so we had to be patient. Did the quality at Dave’s take a slide in the wrong direction over the last few years? I’m looking forward to see improvements.

Came in on a weekend mid-afternoon. We were fortunate to be seated at a window table almost immediately, but the place was packed and very loud. Ordered a one-piece cod with a poutine, as I estimated this would be just enough for my appetite that day. My plate arrived with two EXTRA small pieces of cod — because apparently cod sometimes falls apart in the fryer and extra pieces are also dropped in case this happens. The windfall was nice but I wound up overeating as battered fish is not good reheated and I preferred not to throw it out. In the end i ate something like 2.5 pieces of fish and barely any of the enormous poutine. I found the gravy on it unpalatably salty. The fish was also rather greasy that time. I’m usually enthusiastic about deep fried items but this was one of the rare times I found it necessary to blot some oil away on a napkin. My partner had a chicken burger. The chicken patty was clearly the frozen sort, and also quite small. Odd that the oyster burger is priced the same; if the quality is also comparable does that mean you only get like one oyster. The resulting bill was rather high; the poutine add-on I believe was $ 7, making my fish plate something like $ 14.50. My partner’s chicken burger was $ 14. That may not seem like much to some, but it was a lot more than what we would’ve wanted to spend on that quality of food, and considering that 90% of our portions were just a pile of chips left largely untouched it was completely disappointing. A more reasonable amount to eat might’ve been to just have one of the dishes with chips and to share. Not the first time I’ve been to Daves, but possibly will be the last. Maybe this place has always been a tourist trap and the novelty has worn off on me, but I honestly see any point in ever returning.

Very friendly service. Crispy fries, good condiments and cold beer with a frosty mug. The waitress even gave us a third piece of fish as we were splitting the fish and chips. The only complaint was thst the fish was too greasy, however the delicious New England clam chowder Was the best we tasted in our«chowder tour of Seattle/Vancouver», so we gave a star back.

Pretty good fish n chips. Batter is light and crispy, my two pieces of salmon were filling, moist and fresh. Chips are as advertised, made fresh and still hot when it’s served, and very delicious. They gave you too little tartar sauce for that much fish, cmon guys. Great tartar though. One of the waitresses looked exhausted like she hasn’t been able to sleep for days. Service was on the slow side even though it wasn’t very busy, lunch on a cloudy weekday. Oh and terrible coleslaw it’s like they don’t even try.

Fish and Chips? The one, the only, the original. Great staff, and although parking is limited and wait times can be long, it’s all worth it.

Awesome fish and chips. I got the one piece cod and small chips(fries) and husband got the one piece salmon and small chips(fries). Place was packed, waited about 15 minutes in a line-up, and the prices were very reasonable. Definitely recommend this place for your to-go-to fish and chips in Steveston Village Richmond.

This place used to be great. We went here yesterday and the portions have shrunk substantially. They used to offer refills for fries but not anymore. The fish and fries were over fried, I think. As in, the fries were hard, and the fish had minimal batter. Everything was quite salty. The service is great but the quality has changed so much over the past year. Next time we’ll be trying something new in Steveston.

I really love Fish and Chips. I grew up on it. It’s probably my favorite fast food. I have had some really good and some really bad fish and chips over the years. I have to say right at the beginning, this place is never consistent in terms of frying the fish. However, I think this place is definitely overall hands down better in every respect than the nearby F&C place that is on the dock. I written above them and I think that place is hype and location. I do not recommend ordering halibut at any restaurant because most people can’t tell the difference between halibut and cod. You never know if you will get the real thing. As an off and on regular of Dave’s at both take out and eat in, I noticed that at times your fish will not be cooked properly, it may even too greasy or it may be undercooked. I attribute this to the high turnover of staff in the kitchen. I mean, it must be tough to keep the staff working over a sizzling deep fryer especially in the heat of the summer. In busy times like weekends, you will likely get smaller portions of fish compared to any other time. Take out can also be dicey as well. When eating in, you can always return your fish back and have them make it «properly». Once again, it really depends on who is working in the kitchen as well as your rapport with your server. What I dislike about Dave’s is their prices. It is very expensive. They also changed their recipe on the coleslaw and use a different tartar sauce. I always try to visit Dave’s when in Richmond, but as an alternative, you can also try Pisces Fish & Chips on Westminster Highway in the Terra Nova Mall. I haven’t had recently, but I intend to visit them too.

Dave’s has the best fish and chips in Steveston. Light on the batter and big on fish. All types of fish are good but the Cod and Halibut are my faves. Spartan décor and uneven fries quality are the only downside to an otherwise great spot.

Scratching my head at how anyone was stupid enough to have given this place more than 1 star. I came here on Canada Day with my daughter. I was told that the wait was, «not long». I waited 40 minutes while people left and greasy plates were left on the table for 20 minutes. Bus Boy\Girls were chatting and I could tell that people were waiting for their checks. I finally got a table and waited 15 more minutes. Not once was I offered a drink. I finally said, «FUCKIT». Got up and left. I’ve been to joints like this before. All employees are ages 16 to 20, the food here probably frozen and unauthentic. I can live with that, but the service I experienced at this particular place was just a big fat Fail. I wont be going back… ever.

I’ll just get straight to the point. I found the fries sub-standard and the batter was on the overly greasy side. Also, their tartare sauce was lacking in taste, as was the chowder. The only item that I would have found myself asking for seconds were the onion rings. That said, I’ve only eaten there once and had my meal as take-away. So maybe they have other items that are more impressive than their cod & chowder. Just remember that there are a few other fish n’ chips joints in walking distance.

Did anyone say AYCE Fish & Chips? Yes, Dave’s offering AYCE Fish & Chips for $ 10.95(Cod) and $ 12.95(Salmon). No children’s price. And they only have AYCE from Monday to Thursday(or Friday?) from 11a — 7p. I had 4 pieces of Cod and they were a little dry and overcooked. The Salmon was a little bit dry and overcooked as well. Not too fond of the thick batter either especially when the batter is darker than what it’s supposed to be. I used to come here for good fish & chips but it seems like the quality isn’t as good as before. For a few more loons, I could’ve gone down by the water and had a few good pieces. No thumbs up from little Ashley on this… And my 4 year old loves her fish and chips.

Halibut dry but batter crispy 3 stars according to Mum and Dad Clam chowder good 3 stars according Mum Mushy peas. 4 according to moi Pan fried halibut dry but tasty 3 according to my brother Shrimp sandwich 3 stars but it was a bit runny. I did like it tho. Somehow they were able to accomadate a large group of us on a sunny Sunday in the summer at 12 pm. It took a bit of time but they coordinated it and kudo’s to the staff for helping make it happen. For some reason, things were dry. I wonder if it was the oil too hot or too cold or something.
