Kisoya Japanese Restaurant has been in the area for a long long time. It’s decent sized and to my understanding, it’s been the same over over the years. I’ve never been a fan of this restaurant just because of the price and value and freshness of the seafood are all not entirely to my standard. Today I’m just suddenly craving for a chirashi don for no apparent reason, so I decided to give this place ANOTHER try and with my fingers crossed. So, here’s my chirashi don take out in a box. I asked for no tako, cuz it’s just not my thing. I took a first bite at the TORO… And hmm… Definately not fresh… Sockeye Salmon is alright… Tuna is OK… Salmon is not too bad… The white fish … … … No comment… This box has cost me $ 16.75 So… Well, I guess I will just not have chirashi don from this place anymore. Now I need water…

I occasionally go here for lunch — I have the box lunch and it is always really good. Sashimi is spot on and love the tempura. Awesome Japanese ambience and friendly service.

I ordered pick-up from here, honestly, because of its convenient location. I don’t know what the dining-in experience is like so I’m basing my review solely on the food. Also, I ordered a seaweed salad as a starter & it had absolutely no flavor although the crunchy texture was nice. So boring I have nothing else to say about it. I ordered 5 vegetable rolls for the fam. The pieces were huge &, not to mention, ½ of the filling was lettuce! Lettuce in a veggie roll?!? The house salad is just lettuce, tomatoes & cucumber but the ginger dressing is delicious which is why I gave it 2 stars. Considering they failed at such simple menu items, I really have no interest in trying this spot again.

My BF and I went there for lunch. I was very surprised when we arrived to find a Black rice sushi option so of course I had to take it. Loved it !!! Better than brown rice and it is less muchy, I took a variety of sushi which was pretty tasty. The service was very nice and friendly. And the décor pretty cool, as you can have a very private sections. Will go back …

My parents live just a little ways away from this place, so I’ve been coming here for years. Seriously some of the best sushi around. Its hard to find the same quality and fresheness in any other place. And the staff are friendly. Will continue to come here when I’m in PoCo :)

I knew as soon as the sushi chef greeted me that this would be a good experience… and I was right. I was in one of those moods where I wanted to eat greasy crap but didn’t want to live with the guilt(or the gut rot), and that’s where sushi comes in. But I moved to Port Coquitlam recently, so all my regular spots are much too far. I’ve learned not to take too many chances on cheap(er) sushi, but out of desperation(and fortified with a few good Unilocal reviews), I took a $ 15 chance. I got a yam tempura roll, agedashi tofu, and spinach gom-ae, which is some of my standard«trying you out to see if you’re good» fare. With the exception of the spinach, which I felt had too much sauce which itself was too thick, I was totally impressed. My yam tempura, which sadly is usually pre-made and cold, was fresh, crispy, and had(genius moment!) *thin slices* of yam instead of the usual big, greasy chunks. The agedashi tofu was mild and crispy, with green onions and bonito flakes(make sure to ask them to leave those off, as I wish I did, in the event of dietary reasons). The staff was extremely pleasant, which definitely added to my good review. The place, in my brief glance, was typical of a sushi restaurant, and seemed clean and open. They also had a full bar. My bill for the three dishes was just under $ 15, which is a decent deal. Are there cheaper places? Sure. But I’ve found with sushi, you get what you pay for. I’ll definitely be back.

Only had a small lunch sized take out order… the sushi tasted very good, although the presentation looked rushed(IE: the rolls were all different thicknesses). The staff were very friendly and the restaurant atmosphere looked inviting. I would definitely go back to try out the restaurant again.

The sushi is always very fresh. I especially love their salmon sashimi. I’ve gotten take out many times from here when friends have visited and they all loved it. I’ve tried several other places in the area but none have proven as good as Kisoya. The chef greets you on the way in and out. Nice touch.
