When I’m downtown, I like to pop in to the Ottawa Art Gallery whenever they get a new exhibit. The admission is pay what you can and it only takes about 30 minutes to view the two or three exhibits they have scattered throughout the Arts Court. This gallery specializes in contemporary art, usually distinctly Canadian, that’s rarely risqué, but sometimes interesting. There’s also little security surrounding these pieces, so you’re free to get as close as you like(don’t touch) and explore the usually empty building and exhibit spaces as if they were your own. I think I especially like this gallery because I find the Arts Court always gives off a distinctly creepy vibe and it’s often easy to get lost since there are so many dead ends to various sections of the building. Make sure to go downstairs to check if SAW Gallery has any exhibits too. This gallery is usually more provocative.
