Ottawa has some great sculptures around the city, and I’m going to do my beat to start reviewing them. This is my favourite one by far, as it’s massive and so easy to find! If you’re a visitor to the city’s downtown core there’s a good chance you will spot this giant, bronze spider from miles away(it’s over 30 feet tall!). It’s a little like something out of a sci-fi movie — imagine giant spiders like this everywhere — ahhh! I think that’s why I love it — it’s so surreal and fun! It’s a must the get a picture taken under this female spider when visiting the city :)

Back in 2005, Canadians put to question the expensive price tag of $ 3.2 million for eight legs, a head, a torso and egg sack: An alternative modern sculpture weighing 6000 kilograms. The National Gallery of Canada had acquired a giant spider sculpture called Maman, by Louise Bourgeois. If you are worried about finding the Gallery, fret not, as Ottawa’s coolest landmarks will make it clear that you have reached your destination. The giant bronze spider«Maman» was installed outside the Gallery in 2005. She stands more than 30 feet tall and holds 26 white marble eggs in a sac beneath her. It is now the landmark I am most proud of in the Nation’s Capital — she’s very photogenic. Tourists, artists, wedding parties and locals are often seen posing with her. If you’re downtown, in the Byward Market, do yourself a favour and stop by his monumental statue and take a look, if you haven’t already.
