Lot’s of hype from regulars I’ve talked to but I’ve never been that impressed, after several visits. Today featured very plain homefries, undercooked in old oil, cold bacon, and overdone eggs. Never saw the waiter again after I finished my first coffee.

First off, the exterior is bland and we drive past twice to find it. The name should be in bold red not blah beige… Same as very other color it shows. Female staff are charming. The male staff needs to take note. Definitely a family place, and while we were there, all children well behaved and in fact all diners quiet and pleasant. The atmosphere is pleasant indeed. The menu is basic and the prices are super value for what you get… Huge plates. However, with no eggs Benny as a basic. I was disappointed. However, food was served fast, hot, and decent. CASHONLY. Nothing tells you this until you go to the counter to pay. In summary, if I went back I’d be okay with it, but would not seek this place again. …but if you like a bargain brekkie… I say it’s up your street.

I’ve been meaning to review John’s for some time! I come here every couple of months. It’s really, really good. Simple, inexpensive, tasty fresh food, that’s served VERY fast and consistent. Emphasis on fast and consistent… I don’t know how they do it. There’s not much more to say though. Sure, people may complain that it’s busy but this place turns tables faster than any place I’ve been to in Ottawa. No frozen tasting hash browns here. Egg Salad Club for this vegetarian is a winner. Okay, I’m rambling. If you like simple and delicious breakfast and lunch basics — this place is fantastic.

I lived around the corner from John’s and it’s really hit or miss. Some people love it there, and others hate it. The food is consistent, I’ll give them that.(Though they don’t serve Eggs Benedict). We had a pretty bad experience a little while ago, where we had been waiting in line for about 15 minutes, when another couple came(who was clearly friends of the family) and bumped us. While I can appreciate loyalty to your customers, pulling those kinds of stunts leave lasting impressions too.

Quick lunch is right. Great place for a quick breakfast as well. This place is busy but you don’t usually have to wait to get a table. The service is pleasant and it’s a great place to drink lots of coffee and just have a relaxing breakfast, but not have to wait too long for it to come out! Their milkshakes are really tasty, and HUGE(I recommend sharing) we had the traditional breakfast, and the plates are a good size. They will poach your eggs how you want them if you get the bene, and the sauce doesn’t have that fake taste(although I’m pretty sure it is;) —

John’s is a very pleasant, family-friendly restaurant that is always full for breakfast. I haven’t eaten there other times, but if you are looking for a reasonably priced, but not-too-greasy spoon, this place is it.
