The Met Hotel

I just bought a condo in New West and needed a place to stay before closing. I stayed for 3 nights at the Met after reading a number of reviews online. This is a very reasonably priced «boutique» hotel. This is an 1890s building that has been renovated, with high ceilings, in the oldest part of one of the oldest cities in Canada. Lots around to see there.
The rates and location are very good. I found the hotel staff to be especially friendly and accommodating. I was driving in from Seattle that night and received a call just before 9 to let me know what to do if I was to arrive later (which I didn’t). That’s rare.
You can pretty much walk anywhere that you’d need to walk to from the hotel. I stayed on the 3^rd floor, and it had nice views of the Fraser river. It wasn’t bathed in marble and satin but it was clean with a very comfortable bed.
The amenities are straightforward, and basic. You’re given a discount to the Met Grill next door, which is nice. The River Walk and Quay are a few blocks away. Parking is a reasonable $ 10/​day (about 2 blocks from the hotel), and can be had when checking in (via a voucher). The Columbia Skytrain station is literally just a block away, which means that downtown Vancouver is a 25 minute ride.
One isn’t checking into a weekend of fruit sprays, hot yoga at mud massages at an all-​inclusive resort when they’re staying at a historic hotel like this. For prices in much seedier places in Vancouver, you have a very comfortable, friendly, and — I think — interesting place to stay in a central location in historic New Westminster.
My only reason for not giving it a 5 was problems that I had connecting to wifi on any of my devices the first night. That was resolved by morning, and I experienced faster speeds the rest of my stay than most places that I’ve stayed. That more than made up for it, for someone who works in IT and is reliant on connectivity.
I’d heartily recommend this great, eclectic hotel to anyone needing to stay in the area!

We loved our stay at the Met Hotel! It is a historical building with small and quaint rooms. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and even allowed us to upgrade to a king size room when we decided to stay an extra night. The hotel is located half a block from the Columbia Sky Train station so it’s easy and convenient to go downtown Vancouver. Lots of fun shops and restaurants nearby in New Westminster, so plenty to enjoy during your stay.

Chris was very helpful with parking and provided great customer service.
I have to admit that I watch Hotel Impossible quite a bit so I was a bit more aware of the cleanliness in the room. I was very impressed with the cleanliness in both the bedroom and bathroom.
There is not much of a lobby but there are vending machines, a microwave, and a small mediocre sitting area by the rooms. The rooms are a good size and the ceiling height makes them seem more spacious. There is certainly charm to this hotel.
Our room had a coffee pot and a refrigerator. We didn’t turn on the tv but there was a tv in the room, small two person table, and a desk. I really liked that this hotel had mattresses that are more firm and I liked the pillows.
Do not park right out front, pull ahead to a loading zone. The desk clerk can add the cost of parking to your bill and give you a note to place on your dash board to park in the parking lot across the street.
We took a nap around 3pm and there is noise outside from the skytrain but we turned on the fan and it drowned it out so when we went to bed we turned the fan on again. We actually didn’t hear the train that other people mentioned but we are used to train noise (or maybe they were referring to the skytrain). When I went to the restroom away from the fan, in the middle of the night, I could hear noise from the bar but as soon as I went back toward the bed I didn’t.

My girlfriend and I had a very pleasant stay here. We were a bit skeptical because of the area of the town it was located in but it was expected for the price we paid for the stay. And to be honest we have nothing negative to say. The hotel is located right next to the Skytrain which is very convenient, Chris the front desk clerk is very friendly, the room was very clean and was very nice and every time we came back from our day of shopping and sightseeing we came back to having our beds made, room straightened and had a fresh batch of towels. We will definitely come back again!

The Met Hotel is not cannot be conceptualized in one word. It’s maybe unique. You enter a little hallway and then go into an old elevator. Then you go across a small group of fancy carpets and vending machines like in a pretty office building. After that, you have the room.
It is situated on Columbia Street in New Westminster. It is in one of those old style setups where each building touches another building. From the elevator you’ll find multiple floors and inside the hotel is a bar, but that’s deep in an attic. The hotel is also only about literally three doors away from SkyTrain because there are a few businesses connected to each other and then suddenly there’s the station. You would think the Met was built at the turn of the century, and my view was confirmed.
But it’s not all fun and games. You can hear the train next to most rooms, in fact, the station is transparent so you can even see the underground platform. That’s because it’s only a few feet right in front of the hotel. Luckily, the train does not run from midnight to about five, so if you see the late night — you’ll probably sleep well. To be able to pull off enjoying a loud train is something it would not have occured to me could be done, but they did. The internet is slow; the vending options are bad. The TV would not work. There’s no refrigerator.
The rooms were tall and made me think I was Henry VIII. The beds were big and comfortable. Also, the staff was friendly.
It’s just an old-​fashioned hotel, and that’s all, but consider everything before you book. It has a small elevator and a fancy apartment feel.
The Met is hard to bring out strong feelings either way.

This was a very nice place to stay. Room was spacious and well kept. The bathroom was enormous. The staff was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my stay.

I don’t know why this hotel has gotten an 8.5÷10 rating on hotel booking websites. The rooms smelt incredibly awful. It seriously smelt like they smoked and then to mask the scent they sprayed cheap air freshened all over. It was too late for me too change my hotel or else I was planning on leaving, one night was too much. The room made me so nauseous. Talk about customer service. The that old guy that sat at the front desk was obnoxious, did not know customer service at all! Never recommending this hotel.

Very clean hotel. Price for us with the 2 dogs was a bit higher because of the pet fee but for the one night we stayed, it was perfect. Tall ceilings and windows and a nice large room. Comfy king bed. Convenient location to stores and a Subway for sandwiches plus they have a nice pub.
In reading the other reviews, you can park on the street for free after 6PM until 8AM and we had a 2^nd floor room eye level and right in front of the Sky Train station and we heard very little train noise at all.
We live in New Westminster but needed a place to stay one night while undergoing some home renos but we would definitely recommend the Met Hotel to our out of town guests who prefer not to stay with us.

We recently stayed here on our way up to Whistler. The rooms were clean and I loved that they had Bath & Body works products in the bathroom (e.g., shampoo, conditioner, soap). The only downside is we couldn’t seem to figure out the heat so it was a pretty cool night (although in hindsight we should have asked the staff). We couldn’t beat the price for $ 50. I would definitely stay here again.

If YOU want a cozy, near-​by various shops and places to eat, near Metro train for easy transportation — this is the place to stay. Just by «liking» them on facebook, we got $ 25 CAD off!
The reason for the 5^th star — We stayed on the second floor, facing the Metro train, so it was noisy at night with people screaming and other funny, but entertaining noises.
The room — Clean, comfortable and neat. General Lay-​out — small, yet comfortable. Parking is not free and is charged with tax.
