I was working at this place and asked the janitor to recommend a good place to eat. He recommended a great sandwich place. So later, when I was looking for a place for a drink, I asked the same janitor and he recommended the Meadowlands. Okay, it ain’t the fanciest place in town. But, if you are looking for a place that serves an honest brew and doesn’t try to distract you with fancy décor then Meadowlands may be for you. It is a working man’s bar with an atmosphere of no-frills and straight-upness, rather than the same-old, same-old faux English/Irish pub atmosphere so abundant in Ottawa. Looking for a non-pretentious no-nonsense place to hang your trucker hat and talk sports with your mates? Make it Meadowlands, man.

Do the math: a pub, located in a strip mall in the west end of Ottawa with little around it other than apartment buildings and townhouses. This is just another neighbourhood bar. If you live close and have a hankering for a beer, by all means stop by, but I wouldn’t stay too long. The establishment has been renovated recently and it now has an odd type of tile covering the floors that doesn’t suit the pub or bar environment. Besides the random sports memorabilia on the walls, there is not much of an atmosphere. They have the standard assortment of domestic beers, and an average bar. Nothing to write home about. Same goes for the food. The only reason to go here is for proximity purposes, otherwise take the extra five minutes and go to a better bar.
