I am not an avid sewer. I fiddle with repairing things and have some minor stuff that I like to create. So, because of this I have always felt ill at ease in Fabricland. For years when I went into a store I had no idea what I was looking for and when I asked for help the elderly ladies that work in ‘seemingly’ all of their stores were not the least big interested in helping me out. Well, it shows how much a change of staff can effect how a customer can feel about a store, and want to come back. I was in the Merivale Fabricland a few weeks ago and they had a couple of young ladies working there who were very friendly and went way beyond helpful. I asked questions about finding fabric to help match some items of clothing that I wanted to alter and one of the young ladies took a lot of time making sure I found just the right material. She made my day, and I told her so. She was incredible, and I told her so. She made me feel like a valued customer, and I told her so. That is what staff in any store is there for. Staff are there to make the patrons/customers want to come back. No gossiping about how much they hate so and so who is over there, I don’t want to hear about how much they hate their parents/husband/kids/job/life … I’m there to enhance my life and your staff should be there to enhance theirs. If they are not happy perhaps the problem is management. Pouty faces is an indication someone isn’t happy and the management should be asking what is up with the sour puss. Way too many sour pusses working at Fabriclands.

Came here with Fauve G to find some material for our curtains(let’s be clear — I was not the one who was going to be sewing them. Am sewing-inept.) and I was blown away by this place! This place is located off the Merivale Loblaws plaza, which I found kind of weird. It’s right beside the entrance to Firkin and Knight and is kind of tucked away. Once you find the place though, be prepared for mind-blowing fabric amount. The name is true — this is literally a land of fabric. It’s nuts. Normal cotton, all kinds of clothing materials(even for swimsuits!), outdoor fabric, curtains, and more! I know nothing about sewing, so I was absolutely amazed by the knowledge the staff had. They knew how much fabric we would need, could convert it to different measurements and told us the pricing right away. I wish I could bring them with me everywhere I need to calculate things! They do have a membership program which I know you have to pay into, but they get sweet deals like 50% off select items. I think it’s around $ 25 or so to join. If you, or someone you know if crafty you need to check this place out. They have constant sales and you can’t beat the staff. I went to the Fabricland on Ogilvie and it left a lot to be desired. My experience here was a billion times better!

SOMUCHSELECTION! It’s almost overwhelming, but all the the staff are so friendly and helpful which makes it much easier! I spent a few hours in there today with my darling roommate looking for curtains. We looked at the many tables of fabric, kitchen accessories, and adorable«Made by Grandma» tags! Like I mentioned, the selection is vast! Indoor, outdoor, sheer, solid, leopard print, cupcake print and even 8 different Wizard of Oz prints! After selecting our fabric, the loveliest woman helped us cut it all up and all that good stuff! They had a great sale on — which is on for another month! I highly recommend the location on Baseline and Merivale, it has much more variety!
