I have been a few times, most recently in the summer, before I had Unilocal.I just remembered this experience and thought I should write it down. I had bad gastritis and had been avoiding restaurants in general, but we went in the early afternoon hoping it’d be quiet and that I might find something suitable. The waitress was the most accommodating! The best choice for me was a chicken breast sandwich. She let me sub sides and offered to let me add toppings on the sandwich that weren’t listed, free of charge, since we realized none of the listed toppings were really safe for my gi problems at that time.
It was a very slow time of day so the kitchen wasn’t busy, but I appreciated it exceptionally, just the same. I felt very catered to.
The food we ordered was fresh, and delicious!

Great for brunch — definitely deserves the award for best brunch in Kingston.

Was pretty excited to go here as my colleague raves about it — they catered her wedding. The atmosphere is nice enough — very awkward layout however — furniture placement doesn’t flow well.
The service was good. Our server was attentive and polite.
The real disappointment was the food. I ordered the mussels special. I expect it’s a special because they got a batch of fresh, delicious mussels and were inspired to celebrate them. Clearly the opposite. The mussels were not at all fresh and weren’t properly cleaned — if they were cleaned at all. The sauce was one dimensional — not indication of white wine, or necessary acidic element, no herbs, tasted like puréed canned tomato. It was served with a piece of bread that arrived plain and burnt — no olive oil, no garlic, just the residual taste of the gas from the grill and burnt bread. Often a cook will try to hide a burnt side. Not this time, it was face up in all it’s ruined glory. The kicker — the food was delivered — lukewarm — by what appeared to be a manager and one of the owners. Are you not concerned about what goes to the table?
I also ordered a side of perogies — another mistake. They tasted about as good as you’d expect if you bought a big box of no name perogies on sale for $ 0.99 and left them in the freezer for a year before deep frying them. Think stale egg roll with a mushy middle.
Dessert came along to save the day! Had a delightful lemon blueberry meringue parfait. I could’ve eaten two!
A note to the female owner/​manager — don’t throw your staff under the bus. It’s very unprofessional. If they need help, help them rather than watching from a distance and then insulting them in front of your guests after the fact.
Final note: Your washrooms need attention. They smell strongly of sewage and need a deep cleaning. Makes one wonder what the kitchen looks like…

This place is a nice spot that has been thoughtfully put together. Servers are well trained and are very attentive and accomodating.
My table ordered a trio of gluten free pizzas, none of which tasted gluten free.
Apple gorgonzola: decent pizza for cheese lovers as gorgonzola is similar in taste to a blue cheese. However, I found the arugula to be an odd mix in. It would have been nicer with spinach– something that doesnt have so much volume so that it is prone to fall off of the pizza.
Mushroom and truffle cream: great pizza. Big chunks of mushroom.
Margerita: This pizza is kin to a swiss chalets kids pizza. Nothing very special.
The crust was quite nice for gluten free crust. Also, we tried the muscle appetizer which was very good. Muscles were in a sauce similar to green curry (perhaps, it is) and had a nice spice. The fries were seasoned well, they were not plain.

Great place for breakfast! Warm atmosphere, great food and friendly staff. I would definitely come back.

Trendy place. Cute little patio out front. Some fancy and nice things on the breakfast menu. Eggs Benedict, Huevos rancheros
And more. Fast service. Plenty of street parking near by.
Your girlfriend won’t be embarrassed you brought her I here. And you and your wallet will be happy you brought her along.

First of all, we had excellent service. We began with a caprese salad, which was very light with a nice balsamic reduction and Bococinni cheese. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. We then had a Apple, Gorgonzola, honey, pecan, and arugula pizza. I know that sounds weird, but it was amazing. The flavors all fit together perfectly. The pizza was cooked just right. Atmosphere on the patio was very nice, made interesting by a couple that was clearly on their first date. The waiter then gave us suggestions for what to see in Kingston and where to go for some fun. All in all it was a great meal.

Stopped in for a quick appetizer and a glass of wine… SOOOO glad we did!!! We ordered the mussels and some Chardonnay– the mussels were DELICIOUS!!! Steamed and served in a wonderfully delicious broth of jalapeño and lemon grass– a FANTASTIC dipping broth for the bread. Our server, Erik, was fantastic– very knowledgable about the night life. Definitely a good stop!!!

I was very excited to visit as I had heard some very nice things from my friends. The servers were very nice and friendly. I ordered the eggs Benedict for breakfast. It tasted alright for its price (~$ 12 plus tax). The stairway to the bathroom is extremely suspicious and in the basement, making it inaccessible for the wheelchair bound and elderly. I don’t really get what the big deal is with this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing?

If was my first time here, we were taking a break from the long drive to Montréal. Service was great and attentive, the burgers are unbelievably good. I had the gourmet burger (savoury taste) and my wife had the ham and Brie which had a sweeter honey mustard dressing.
Price is great: lunch for 2 including drinks taxes coffee and tip 40 $.
Ambience is good, with light piano music and a lively bar area.
Lots of street parking.
Washrooms are down a flight of stairs so the restaurant is non accessible.

This was my first time here & it was nice! I’d like to try their dinner menu next time.
The service was pretty good, the food was tasty. No major complaints! There were 4 of us & we all enjoyed our meals.
I myself had their classic burger & it was slightly massive but very delicious! I would definitely recommend this. My boyfriend got a chicken club on multigrain (you choose between a wrap or a sandwich). Their fries are so good & the right amount of salty.
Overall it was a nice little experience, try it out for yourself!

Both times I’ve been here, the service has been good.
The food is good, but nothing to write home about. Atmosphere is nice. It always seems to be busy every time I go… so thats a good sign.

I love Windmills.
My boyfriend and I have gone to windmills many times, it is definitely our most visited restaurant in Kingston. We love it because it offers us both great options, for me as a vegetarian and for him as a meat lover.
I recommend the tofu avocado sandwich, it is delicious! Their salads are also wonderful, and if you order french fries you will be surprised to see they are as yummy as any chip wagon. For dessert they offer a «scooby snack» which has caramel and shortbread, and it is a favourite of mine.
The service is typically wonderful. There is one waitress in particular that really gives it her all and engages in conversation and even recognizes us and welcomes us when we arrive, which makes the experience all the better!
I would advise against the lemon desert unless you are the type of person who could drink pure lemon juice– it is extremely tart.
There really are menu items for anyone, brunch through dinner are all exceptional. I recommend Woodenheads!

It’s okay.

very nice place for an intimate dinner for two or a family gathering. we’ve done both.
service is prompt, attentive and friendly… the star here is the food. outstanding!
($ 50-​$ 60)per. its definitely somewhere to consider for a special meal

We stumbled upon Windmills after our intended restaurant was discovered to be closed.
My boyfriend’s parents each had the pasta special (spaghettini with artichoke hearts, spinach, and tomatoes), my boyfriend the steak, and I the portobello pizza.
The décor was warm and inviting, as was our waitress. She was extremely informative with ingredients of the dishes, and excited about every dish on the menu. While it was hard to decide initially, everyone was happy with their dinner choices.
Though we live in Ottawa, we cannot wait to return and try some other dishes. Definitely recommended!

My foodie adventures in Kingston continued with a recent stop at Windmills. To be honest the food options in Kingston are fab. I mean there are many good (read: just good) places to grab some chow. Windwills is one of those ‘good’ places. My boyfriend and I went for lunch just the other day and the place was quite hopping around noon. Its a ‘seat yourself’ type of place, and the waitresses are sweet if not unassuming. I had the pasta special (they have a different ‘special’ pasta dish everyday), which was the pesto penne. I mean the penne was aiiiighhtt not (by any means) knock your socks off deeeelicious. Just aiiight. The sauce was ‘soupy,’ not consistent, thick, or cheesy as I have come to enjoy my pasta sauces. They served penne with a spoon – and I realized it was for soaking up the runny sauce. It also came with a slice of ciabatta bread which translates into two slices of a baguette without any sort of sauce or butter. In other words: bland bland bland. But the pasta was sufficient. And really, if you’re going to a place like Windwills you should probably order something other than pasta. It is a brunch place after all not a cute little restaurant in a Big City Little Italy, so I’ve learned my lesson the hard way. My boyfriend had the pizza and he enjoyed it but again it was just ‘good.‘
I think the main reason people like this place is (a) because it has many vegetarian, and low-​cal, healthier options. They have gluten-​free pasta, and gluten-​free pizza crust, etc. (b) It’s relatively affordable. The prices are good. A big bowl of pasta was $ 10.50. Pretty cheap if I don’t say so myself. They made a nice café au lait and the standard coffee was a nice blend. All in all there are better options in downtown K-​town for lunch: aka Woodenheads, Atomica, Sizzle, or even a place like Harpers for burgers. Drop-​in only if you’re looking for a change of pace.
PS this place is a little tired, and in need of a bit of a décor refresher. And being a fab gay man my opinion of the whole place might be a little different if we had some nice modern décor.

Bright, airy, and always buzzing with people. This place is very busy at brunch, and for good reason.
The service here is very friendly, the food comes quickly and the staff do a good job of making sure you’re taken care of (though we did have to ask for coffee refills, but that is far from a big deal in a busy place like this.)
Between the three of us we order the apple crepes (which are filled with slow cooked apples, cinnamon and brown sugar), the express (which is essentially a very large portion of a standard English breakfast), and the ham and cheese crêpe which was absolutely delicious (5 stars for that crêpe alone, 3 for the other two meals.)
The girl who brought us here claims their bread is incredible though I didn’t taste any.
The décor is lovely with all the walls covered in interesting artwork, high ceilings with exposed pipes, and one red brick wall which adds a lot of character to the place.
I would definitely go back for brunch.

Still not sure why this place is so popular but I’ve had some good french toast here. Mainly the breakfast/​brunch fare keeps this place busy. The burgers are filling and done adequately. My attempt at their pastas have been adventurously bad.
