St. Ann’s Lobster Suppers is the oldest lobster supper organization on Prince Edward Island. It should come as no surprise that they have this down to a science. Located in Hope River in the basement of the St. Ann’s Parish Church, you’re greeted at the front desk where you place your order. You can order various sizes(pounds) of lobster or steak if you aren’t a seafood lover or a combination of both. Once paid you are seated where a server takes your drink order and proceeds to then bring you FIVE courses. Yes, FIVE. Hint: go with an empty stomach and stretchy pants 1st course — seafood chowder with a biscuit 2nd course — steamed mussels 3rd course — Caesar salad 4th course — lobster with potato salad, coleslaw and sauteed root vegetables(you can also request potato, fries, etc for the starch option) 5th course — tea/coffee and lemon pie(there are usually a few choices) We were so full(as you can imagine from the photos I’ve included) that we had to take dessert to go. I have a feeling they get that request a lot. Our server was friendly and very attentive and she even tied our plastic lobster bibs on for us. A local singer/piano player was also providing background music but the eclectic mix of everything from Tracy Chapman to Adele to the Rankins was a bit of an odd mix. With the organization billing itself as being the oldest on PEI I expected some more traditional Maritime music. I also don’t think it helped that the music was a bit too loud and obtrusive and that the young lady wasn’t particularly pleasant to listen to when performing some songs. I appreciate the sentiment of having some local young talent performing but I’d have much preferred some quieter traditional instrumental music(think fiddles, etc) so that my dining partner and I could have a conversation without feeling the need to shout. All in all, a great dining experience and far less commercialized than the nearby New Glasgow Lobster Supper venue which was always packed with numerous tour buses whenever we drove by.
