Clean and bright, well laid out floor plan. Terribly slow cashier service, couldn’t find ANYONE to help on the floor ANYWHERE = frustrating. Shelves still bare in some area after a year being open? Feels like Zellers with a paint job. I preferred Zellers, had things in stock and basically the same store.

Another Target! Because y’know, our province needed three of them. Which will close down first? My money is on this one. It’s not that it’s a bad Target. It’s ok. It just feels like a ghost town whenever I’m here. Bedford is starting to pick up, and while I’ve never shopped at the location inside MicMac Mall, it’s inside MicMac Mall. That one’s not going anywhere for a while. This one, however, is located in an area already dense with shopping options, especially for the kind of merchandise one might find in this kind of store. Wal-mart is around the corner, there’s a giant Supertstore, and Cost-co… Yup. I’m calling dibs and laying down my cards. This location is marked.

I had a rather terrible experience at the Starbucks inside the Target, so I’ll try my best to not let that cloud my judgement of the store. The one thing I always like about Target is the ambience/feel/organization of their stores. They are definitely cleaner, better lit, better organized, fresh and clean color scheme. It all feels bright and airy and spacious when one walks in the store. I like that they have grocery items, but the fact that they don’t carry fresh produce like the«Mart» down the street is going to put them at a distinct disadvantage. The store was relatively quiet when I got there, but that didn’t deter them from having only one(glacially slow) cashier open, with a long line up and no attempts to remedy that with a second cashier. SO, I chose to use the self-checkout out of frustration… I only bought 4 items, just to find out that said machine was out of paper. So there I stood for an additional 15 minutes while the«attendant» attends to another customer. Now I can understand having to wait for assistance because someone needs help with a machine problem… what I don’t get is why the attendant was doing the ENTIRE self check-out for said other customer.. literally taking each item out of the customers full cart(slowly), swiping them one by one and then going through the entire payment process(again slooowly)… This entire process took forever and was disappointing. Whats the point of a self-check out if the attendant is acting as a(slow) cashier? All I needed was my receipt! When she finally replaced the paper in the machine, she couldn’t figure out how the machine works. At all. And so she kind of threw her hands in the air with finality as if to convey«you’re s^%t out of luck». So I told her just to forget the whole thing and left. I needed the receipt but even more so I needed to not be any more aggravated than I already was. I hope these are just teething issues with the not so new store and that they will improve, so only time will tell.

There was a lot of hype about this chain opening, so I wasn’t sure it would measure up when I finally visited, but I like it. Honestly, I don’t find it’s that different than Zellers but I would say it is generally more«stylish» than that chain was. Overall, a clean, bright store. I have noticed lots of empty shelves/sections, which(imho) doesn’t really look good and I don’t really«get» why this is(do they not have enough stock? are they not stocking shelves fast enough?). However, the store hasn’t been open long, so I’m hoping this is just a temporary thing. Another thing I don’t like is that the seasonal stuff is in the very back corner of the store. I realize this is «normal» merchandising practice for these stores, but I would just find it more convenient to be at the front. Small complaint though. What I like most is their clothing — I always find lots of cute, trendy items here and the prices are great. Yes, the clothes are cheaply made but the reality is I’m on a budget and love clothes so sometimes places like this are my only option. I don’t find they are any more cheaply made than other clothing chains around town. And I always find something I like that’s a little different and fun every time I visit(and finding my size is generally not a problem). They also have nice housewares — I found a set of bowls in a bright graphic print for a wedding gift recently that are dishwasher safe, and the whole set only cost me $ 25. Plus they gave me gift receipts for everything, which was really nice. The cashiers I have had here are always really friendly, however I have found the staff on the floor lacking. There doesn’t seem to be many people around to ask questions and the last time we were here and we finally found a person, he wasn’t that friendly or helpful. I’m sure this was an isolated incident though. Overall I’m happy that Target has come to Halifax. This has become my «go-to» store in Bayers Lake if I need to pick up something cute, fun and inexpensive.

I have to be honest, I was expecting this to be more like an American Zellers. Clothing wise, it’s even worse than Zellers: overpriced, non-stylish, made-in-Vietnam stuff I would never buy. Their lingerie is almost completely Target brands; other than Wonder Bra they don’t seem to carry known, trusted brands. However, once you get past these sections things improve. They have a different selection of housewares, cookware, even cleaners. Brands you’ve never heard of or only read about are available here. Prices on these items are more competitive. However, it’s apparent they weren’t ready for their grand opening as many of the shelves have yet to be stocked. Their grocery section is large(provided by Sobeys) and prices seem on par with grocery stores. There were plenty of staff on the floor, which is refreshing. The cashier we had was friendly and efficient. While I won’t be buying any additions to my wardrobe here, this may be the store that helps us avoid Walmart in future.

This is the first Canadian Target I have been to, and since I lived in the U.S. for 10 years until recently, I was excited to finally have them here. The three things I miss most about the States are Target, Olive Garden and IHOP. But I digress. The store is clean and bright and there were lots of friendly staff milling about to help out. I had to ask where to find something and was taken to the area by a very friendly, helpful staff member. I’m not sure why some people are complaining about the prices. I found a large bottle of Aveeno priced at $ 11.99, where most places sell it for $ 16.99. A three pack of Venus 5 blade razors were $ 13.49 when most places sell them for $ 16.99. Everything else that I looked at seemed reasonably priced as well. If you want junk that is going to fall apart, go to Walmart or some other discounter. I was very happy with what Target had to offer and will definitely be back!
