I haven’t been to Bowring in many years, since it was in a mall. I can’t recall if it was always this tacky, but it certainly is now. Lots of shiny stuff. Lots of silvery stuff. Lots of overpriced stuff. When you first walk in it’s almost blinding. This is not a nice, homey store. This is a «let me distract you with bright, reflective surfaces so you don’t notice just how ugly this stuff is» store. I was looking for a specific item which they don’t carry. We were ignored by a couple staffers while braving their obstacle-course-like setup. The displays are placed willy-nilly throughout the store with no rhyme or reason. And it’s just tack city. One salesperson did speak to us as we were leaving, and she confirmed they don’t carry the item I was looking for. She was nice, so there’s that. And not everything is overpriced; some items are reasonably priced. But there’s not a thing in this store I would buy.

Bowring: for those interior design projects that revolve around a large man in an armchair stroking a white fluffy cat. No, seriously. That’s pretty much how I feel about this shop that’s packed with things like mahogany globes, decadent oversized chess sets, fake books, and anything that can open up to reveal a liquor cabinet. Their buyers must look purely for things that can hold secrets, things that can hold alcohol, and things that would intimidate James Bond during a heated game of backgammon. It’s actually quite awesome when you think about it… Nice stuff, nice staff, high prices, and products that may not be as easy to integrate into your home design as you might think. That is, unless you live on a luxurious soap opera set in which case, can I come over for dinner?

I love this store! It’s a great place to find a gift for anyone. I always pop in here to check out their sales. Most times I can find something on sale for 50% off! I love their picture frames as well as their candles. The staff are always very approachable as well as helpful. I find the store nice and big as well. It’s truly a great place to shop for yourself or for a friend.

I was in Bowring again today. I just really love this store. I saw some beautiful jewellery boxes that were on sale for 30% off, some even 50% off. I loved this huge mirror that was on the wall. I could spend a lot of money in this store, no problem. The quality of the merchandise is excellent and the pieces are timeless. I love that in my purchases. The staff is a really nice, they always seem to be having a great time and love what they do. I had a great conversation with the manager there as well. You can tell his customers are well cared for. He and his staff do everything they can to assist the novice buyer.
