#BurgerWeek2016 #round6 Once again as Ace Burger had a great reputation for itself around town… Expectations were high! As usual the beef patty was a 10! Thick, juicy and flavourful! But that’s when things went down hill! On my version of the Drunken Devil all other tastes from promised condiments were drowned out by excessive mayo! Truly disappointing! I like to think it was because it was busy like real busy! Service 8÷10… Good job girls!

The very heart of a truly good burger is the meat. That’s where all the other flavours have to combine to compliment the basic premise of a burger. In my view anyway. While they may not promote themselves as «gourmet» burgers, that is simply being humble. Jimmy Hendrix didn’t think he was genius either, but we all know he was. That’s Ace Burger. You taste the meat, the real, good, local, meat. The bun doesn’t overwhelm, the ingredients compliment. I went for the classic. I’d been in a week before on a hot, humid day and left before I ordered. Went back today. Ordered. Ate. Sublime smiling belly. The atmosphere of Gus’ Pub is one that takes you back and that’s the character, as is the neighbourhood. On a hectic day of business, we just needed a good burger. It was better than good. Fries, a nice compliment.

That’s seriously the best way to describe Ace Burgers. Everything is SO fresh, SO perfectly cooked, and SO freaking delicious!
Now, you may be a little sketched-​out thinking: «I’ve gotta go into the bar to get a burger???» Don’t be. It’s completely and utterly worth it. The menu is small, but everything I’ve had is delicious — the lamb is fresh and local, it’s got just a little spice, some yummy greens, and delicious goat cheese. Put it all on a soft bun and dig in. Not your thing? No worries, the «regular» burgers are amazing as well! Fresh, local ground beef, BACON (Get it with bacon. Life is better with bacon.), cheddar, frizzled onions, fresh greens… it’s just so worth it.
So go now. Grab a burger, get the fries (they’re SO tasty) and enjoy.

One of the best burgers I have ever had. I had the lamb burger and it was outstanding! Strongly suggest that if you are anywhere near this place — it’s worth the trip!

I’ve eaten their burgers before, and now that I am a vegetarian, I tried their veggie burger last night. It was just as delicious as every other burger they make… and their fries are fantastic. Add an orange Pop Shop and it was perfect. I’m so glad I live a block away !

Wife and I ate here tonight. The place is definitely different. Food and bottles of local brand soda st one counter, alcohol and Pepsi products at a different count, both cash or debit only. Don’t know what the hype about the burgers is about but these were about average from my experience. Fries were above average but not great. Place obviously caters to college crowd. Prices were ok — about $ 27 CAD for 2 burgers, one fry, 1 can Pepsi and 1 local bottle beer — not a craft beer. I certainly wouldn’t go out my way to eat here.

There’s something special in those burgers. I got the lamb burger and my friend got the Yak burger. Never heard of any other place that has this kind of burger but he was pretty impressed with the quality. Mine was also really delicious. 5 Stars for taste.
What’s a bit disappointing though is that they didn’t even give us plates with those burgers. The bar looks a bit sketchy. I’d say the place loses a star over the interior alone. Service is nice.
One thing to consider is they take cash only.

Being new to the city at the time, I never knew that Ace was in Gus’ pub. The place looked sketchy, and I would never think of going there to eat. I stumbled into a group for a semester in school, where were had a lot of meetings. As we had a meeting at Java Blend, a group member was talking our ears off about these amazing french fries he had, just a little bit up the road. After hearing is case, I just had to try.
While the atmosphere is not fantastic, the burger and fries I had were delicious, and I was glad to find such a tasty gem somewhere I wouldn’t have expected to.

Fabulous. Loved the lamb burger. I will return!

First time at Ace last night and honestly it was the absolute BEST pork burger I’ve ever had in this city. The flavors were incredible! Like biting into a Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwich. Amazing pickled veg. Will be back for more soon!

Best burger in Halifax, hands down. Every one is cooked when you order it and is SO delicious. All the ingredients are locally sourced and you can tell everything is made by hand with care. Even the bun is delicious! The fries are great and there is a good selection of Pop Shoppe sodas or you can get beer from the bar since it’s right inside Gus’. It’s cash only but there’s an ATM on site. I don’t get why people complain about the «hipster» staff; they’re always friendly and prompt and their clothing style in no way affects the quality of the food!

The lamb burger I suspect they get from the buffet at Walhalla as it is fit to feed a mighty warrior lost in battle!

The Deluxe burger is D-​Freaking-​Licious! I went twice on my Christmas trip to Halifax. It is NS Grass Fed Beef, Lettuce, Frizzled Onions, Pickle, & Dijonnaise on Kaiser with PEI Cheddar & Brother’s Back Bacon. OMG — my mouth is watering as I type and I hate that I’m now a country away from this delicious place. On my first visit I ordered in and grabbed a beer from Gus’ pub. 2^nd time, I called ahead and got take-​out. Both times I received friendly and prompt service. I’ll be back this summer!

What is with the hispter-​flimsy establishments popping up all over the place?
Maybe its just me getting old and crabby, but Ace Burger grosses me out.
First of all Gus’pub is more like a criminal enterprise than a pub. I loathe eating there.
Second, kids… why all the ink? The gauges, the piercings, tats and green/​pink dreadlocks… I’m sorry but I am not hungry anymore after seeing so much body modification on display. I feel like I’m having a burger at the circus.
Lastly, I the burgers and such are in my opinion, not good at all.

Ate the turducken burger today at City Harvest. $ 11 was pricey for just the burger but with chicken friend turkey, duck, pickled veg, and parsnip chips prepared from scratch they certainly put the work in!

I’m fully expecting to open the door to a mob of people holding pitchforks and torches after writing this but whatever.
I’ve been here a few times over the last few months and tried a few different burgers besides the deluxe, the veggie burger being one of them, and the jerk chicken burger. The veggie burger was okay. I tend to prefer my veggie burgers made with soy patties that are firm and have a similar texture to a beef patty, I’m not sure what this veggie burger was made of but it was falling apart everywhere, and it was mushy.
A week ago I got the jerk chicken burger. The jerk chicken burger was pretty good, and actually spicy. I don’t like that they used what looks like 2 – 3 chicken strips instead of an actual patty, it made the burger really difficult to eat and there wasn’t consistently chicken in every bite, some bites didn’t have any chicken in them. It did however, taste very good and the crispiness of the chicken was nice.
The last experience I had a few days ago has put me off of Ace indefinitely. I got the deluxe burger. I sat down and was talking to a friend, and took a bite of it and something tasted wrong. The grease completely sopped through the burger bun and I had taken a bite of burger, and grease soaked bread. It was disgusting i took it back and they put another bun on it, but I’d rather a veggie burger or something, yuck. The burger was also not even remotely close to being cooked in the middle, and yes, I know, with high quality beef its good to leave some pink in the middle, but not this much pink. Anyway, I tossed it and ate my fries instead, which are quite good.
I don’t know maaan, I think Ace is so overrated, I think the burgers are okay (albeit very greasy), but not nearly as deserving of the hype as people say. Sorry Unilocalers! :(

This place has the best burgers ever created! They are made with local grown/​raised goodness and you can tell that every burger that is made at this remarkable establishment is made with love and happiness! You can actually taste joy with every bite.
If you have never been to ace drop what you are doing and go now! And then thank me for fulfilling your wildest dreams (you know, that one you had when you finally found a burger that you never thought was possible in this life).
Couple that with the fun gritty atmosphere of Gus’ Pub and some of the best east coast local beers… I just don’t have the words to express the whole experience.
…they only take cash. But the extra work of going to a bank only makes the experience more rewarding!

I really just want to write GO TO ACE BURGERS forty or fifty times and call this review done. Seriously. Have you been to Ace Burgers? No? Why?! Get in your car/​bus/​walking shoes and GET YOUR BUTT DOWN THERE!
My bestie and I were expecting good things from Ace, perhaps even great ones. But we were not expecting to find the best burger’s we had even eaten. Like, seriously. We’re going to eat our way through this outstanding menu, because that’s what you do when you find a menu where everything is delicious!
He had the Deluxe burger which, if you’ve read any of these other Unilocal reviews, you probably already know comes highly recommended. I expected myself to flip-​flop between the Lamb burger and the more traditional, but then I saw the burger of the day option. Bison?! Are you joking? How could I pass that down?
Both burgers were crazy good. We had a five minute discussion on the best way to describe the difference between the two, and while it seems silly to say the bison tasted «meatier», but it did. It was denser, richer and obviously different from regular beef. Either way, it was wonderful, with a pillowy soft bun dusted in herbs, roasted onions and cheese. I don’t know how often it will be available, but get it when you can!
The fries are also perfect, right down to being served in a paper cup. I love when they do that.
Please, please, PLEASE! Do yourself and your stomach a favour and get yourselves down to Ace’s post haste! You can thank me later.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. I almost did — and it would have cost me not trying my new delicious discovery; The Mussel Po’boy!
I’m always down for trying new things — but the only reason we went to Gus’ Pub to eat was because it was only a block from my house and we were in a hurry. I didn’t feel like having a burger, so I was going to get something from the Gus’ menu. Turns out they don’t have a menu there anymore; Ace Burgers took over their kitchen .That is now okay with me — since I was kind of forced into trying them ;)
I was feeling fish&chipy (of course!) so I asked the awesome guy behind the counter what a po’boy was — he explained and I ordered; without the pickled onions though!
Their po’boy sandwich consists of about 6 mussels battered and deep fried to perfection. I want to eat this everyday, but at $ 8.00 + your side, it’s a little steep, but worth it for a treat!
One of my friends ordered the pork burger and the other ordered the lamb burger — no complaints! One of them even said it was the best lamb burger they’ve ever had!
PS; they have an awesome condiment cart… even with mayo packets! Score!
