Came here with my best friend on my birthday back in May. The service was prompt and our waitress was pleasant and observant when my BFF mentioned it being my birthday. I had a hard time trying to decide what to have so she mentioned having a scoop of the Bison Chilli on top of the Mac and Cheese! Absolutely HEAVENLY! We decided to share the Banana Cream Pie for dessert and I would have licked the plate clean if it wasn’t so busy! I will be back for sure!

We went there based on the«You Gotta Eat Here!» endorsement. The chicken and waffles were the only good dish. The cinnamon bun was cold and seemed to be day old? It didn’t live up to the hype at all.

I have been three times now and it doesn’t get any better. My favourite meal is the chicken and waffles. I saw the profile on You Gotta Eat Here and did. It’s a really busy place so you gotta plan around when you go. They have a great menu but chicken and waffles is my favourite meal. Service has been good all my times there so I have no complaints. They have a great selection of craft beers available so if you can try one. I recommend going.

Hideous. I work nearby and thought I’d try it for lunch. The vibe is deceptively cozy until you notice the run-down quality and definite health code violations(I’ve worked 10+ years in the food industry, but the average person will spot them — believe me!!!) Tables, floors, chairs, windows, the food prep area — very unclean. I sat right in the table right in front of the cash register — which gave me an ample view of how my grilled cheese sandwich and coleslaw was being prepared. Bare hands — the same that handed me my change earlier from the cash register. Processed coleslaw and a huge amount of cheese was the outcome. I took it «to go» and immediately tossed it outside in the garbage. And am now trying to figure out how to get in touch with a health inspector.

I’ve visited this coffee shop a couple times over the years, most recently in August between plays during a pre-Fringe preview performance at the Roxy Theatre down the street. It’s always kind of surprising that a large, cozy independent café like this exists on this part of 124th street, which gets progressively seedier as you travel north towards 118th Ave. My theatre-going companion and I ordered a hot chocolate and a coffee respectively, both of which I’d grade a B-. Not spectacular, but very good. In addition to my coffee, I ordered a slice of some sort of delicious-looking berry and graham cracker square from the cooler filled with trays of individually-wrapped treats, But looks can be deceiving; I bit into it and was greeted with a flavour reminiscent of the post-flood smell of the elementary-school art projects my mom had saved in a box in the basement. Closer inspection of the square revealed large spots of mold that had obviously had at least a few days of time to settle down and procreate. In retrospect, I should never have ordered a saran-wrapped pastry from a huge pile in a shop that can’t possibly move more than a handful of them on a regular day. For this particular area, the Sugar Bowl is still your best bet, but if I were to visit again I’d steer clear of the pastry case.
