I live right by here. I’ve passed it many times. I’ve googled the address trying to find it. Always walked right by it because I was walking on the other side of the street. It straight up looks like a warehouse from the outside and signage is minimal. So when a friend invited me and picked me up and drove me there– I had an «ohhhhh» moment when I realized it was right there the whole time and I am just a blonde. I thought maybe it had closed down between when the time my pal said to check it out and when I had walked by the area. NOW that I know it exists and it’s there, I will probably be back! The interior cool(and still a bit industrial) and open. There is minimal seating but lots to do(ping pong anyone?). I had a latte and it was a 4⁄5 star latte. No latte art and it was a bit foamy, which surprised me as this place seems like it would hold coffee to a higher standard. If you’re a hipster, you’ll fit right in here! I’ll have to be back to try out the food because I hear it’s awesome! I have also heard that they often host events and parties in the evening– so if they still do that, this would be a fantastic space!

What an interesting place, it gave me a very unique impression the first time I went. the coffee was good, the baristas are attentive and nice, and most of all, the interior is very unique. the furniture is rustic, the fireplace is very unique, and the bike parts and whole bicycles throughout the place are a nice touch. it is sort of hard to find and is really out of the way, but makes for a nice Saturday outing on an afternoon to catch up on work or read a book. there are not too many outlets for power here though, so make sure you have enough battery power. it can also get chilly by the window so plan accordingly. awesome place overall

I met a friend here for a coffee and conversation. As my rating states, meh I’ve experienced better. I’m not sure what this place is suppose to be. Is it a coffee shop, a rental event space or just a place for the owners to hang out with their friends. If it’s tryin to be a coffee shop, it needs to create a better atmosphere. It’s too barren and cold. There is no wifi and the seating is scarce. The seating they do have is uncomfortable. I didn’t find this place inviting and to top it off the coffee was alright. But sorry to say, Transcend is still king of YEG in my mind. Even if we were just comparing coffee, this place is not as good as Transcend. I was hoping for a better experience from Iconoclast but it fell short. It needs a lot of work to become a popular spot for grabbing a coffee.

Hands down I’ve had the best muffin of my liiiiife at Iconoclast. It was a zucchini spice muffin and was seriously so delicious that it took a hell of a lot of restraint to not just order the whole tin to take home. The coffee was very good and the warehouse atmosphere of the place was super cool. There was ping pong tables set up and they sold board games(though I didn’t see any set up to play…) The location is really hidden, but I like that about it. Once the brewery district is up and running I think they will see even more traffic come through. Worth the drive, bring a friend and linger for awhile. But please, for all that is good in the world– try the muffins!

I had a gorgeous Macchiato and a delightful chat with a non-pretentious barista in this little hidden gem in Oliver. Ambiance is causal and neat, with garage doors that open to let the sun in. They roast on site. Bliss.

Hipster coffee with everything the cool kid in you craves to announce you have arrived But with friendly service that let’s you in on the joke. Great selection of cool bikes, alternative coffee makers and great board games if congratulating yourself on finding the place gets boring. If you’re still going to Starbucks you’re missing out!

Super cool locale. I came here for a magazine launch party. I love the space and the minimalist design. They may also have good coffee. I’ve never tried it.

This review is for their service. Not the coffee house. I think the café is unique and generally, I have enjoyed their coffee. Brought a machine in to get looked at. I tried dropping it off several times but the tech was always out and they wouldn’t let me leave the machine unless the tech was there. Once I was finally able to leave it with them, it took about a month and a half to get an answer. Only got an answer because I dropped in 3 times to ask about the machine. The tech seems to be extremely slow as I saw several of the same machines in the same spot unmoved over the times I went to ask about my machine. Was twice quoted $ 70 for 1 hour of labour. Went to pick up and was asked for $ 90. I argued, got the bill to $ 70 again. The report back was via phone call from the tech to the staff I was talking to. Nothing formal, nothing in writing. I gather the machine needs a bit of work but was told the tech was unwilling to do the work. I felt that the tech was actually quite rude. I asked if there was water put in the machine(to know if I should bleed the lines) was told, «no, unless it was in the boiler already, the tech didn’t bother to open the boiler.» To this day, I’m not really sure the tech actually looked at my machine. Wouldn’t ever go back for service and the experience has soured me on their café as well.

There is no better coffee in the city. The beans are roasted daily and they are very serious about quality. It’s got a great laid back vibe and well worth checking out. Play some pingpong, chess, or just soak in the atmosphere.

This place is so bare bones, and you can see the roaster in the back. Washrooms are super clean and spare. All this tells me they are serious about what they do. Also, the guy that made my Americanos the couple times I visited is super nice — he makes a great cup of coffee, and is super helpful with beans, which I might add are very well priced. I like how their product is proliferating through town; La Bicyclette and Wild Earth, amongst others I’m sure. The only reason they don’t get 5 stars from me is I find they do roast a little too dark for my tastes, but again, that’s just my taste. I love what these guys are about. I’ll still come back for cups of coffee and bags of beans.

I did not even know this place existed until I attended a political event here. It looks like a warehouse, smells like a coffee roaster, and has a hipster sort of vibe. The space is really wide open and conducive to events. Its location is a little out of the way but I hope to come back soon to actually try the coffee, which smelled fantastic.

Iconoclast Koffiehuis(or Iconoclast Coffee for sake of spelling) is Edmonton’s newest café. I had a chance to visit the shop today and talk to the owner, Ryan Arcand, about the coffee, the space, and Edmonton’s growing food scene. The space is open to the public and Ryan expects to be fully functioning by their grand opening date, May 3. There’s so much to write about, I don’t even know where to start! Let’s start with Iconoclast. It’s not new to Edmonton by any means, its previous roasting location on 118 Ave. The local roast had been almost exclusively sold to Café Leva up until last November, and now has its own coffee bar right behind the Staples in Oliver Square. There’s only one road to get to the industrial-style building, so make sure you make that turn onto 105 Ave! Currently their coffee can be found in numerous restaurants including(but not limited to): the Culina family, Blue Plate Diner, Café Bicyclette, and RGERD. Work is being done on selling the roast at groceries stores Family Foods on Jasper and Wild Earth Foods in the future. Walking into the shop, I was immediately surprised by how big the space was. It’s essentially a warehouse! Front and center is the coffee bar, made of fully reclaimed materials. Two large roll-up bay windows let in beautiful natural light and Ryan plans to open up the doors during summer hours. Would make for a fantastic space to relax! Open ceilings and concrete floors add to the industrial feel. A few customers were grabbing coffees to go, mostly workers next door or in the area. Word hasn’t gotten too far that the space is open yet! In the mean time, I checked out the display of Pinto chocolates and truffles. Gorgeous, and equally delicious as I bought a box of 4 to eat later. Business partner, and girlfriend, Sjoukje Bouma, studied in Belgium and will be selling bean-to-bar items in the space. A corner in the back of the warehouse is already in the works to become her designated work area. Another section of the space is currently being rented to the food truck, Local Omnivore. By May, they will be offering breakfast and lunch items(sandwiches and soups) for Iconoclast Coffee. One of the neatest corners of the space is the roasting facility! Ryan plans to keep everything open so patrons can see exactly what’s going on. Coffee beans will be shipping in and roasts will be coming out as you drink your coffee, making the whole coffee experience really unique. I’m not a coffee connoisseur,(not by a long shot!) but I know I definitely enjoyed their latte and raspberry granola bar. When the placed cleared of customers, Ryan and I had a good chat about Edmonton’s growing food scene. Having only moved to Edmonton in 2007, he’s noticed quite the change: the continued growth of 104 St and Whyte Ave(both anchored by farmer’s markets) and most recently, the expansion of restaurants and businesses in Oliver Square, 124 St, and down over to Boonie Doon(opening of Café Bicyclette). Along with that, we talked about Edmonton’s local roasts, few compared to the likes of Calgary and Vancouver. I’m glad to hear that more restaurants are partnering with Iconoclast Coffee! Supporting local food and businesses is what helps the city grow! With a few tables set up already, you can come enjoy a cup of the local roast! Or play a game of chess or darts. Or maybe challenge Ryan to a game of ping pong, the table given to them from the Culina Family. Absolutely loved the relaxed feel of the space. Iconoclast Coffee will host private events, such as weddings, working with Culina Family for catering services. The space can hold up to 150 people, making what I predict will be the next Mercer! Really hope it will be used for food events! Super excited for their grand opening, scheduled for May 3, 2014. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter for details!
