Jasper Place Library

One of the best parts about moving into the neighborhood recently has been this wonderful library. The staff here are so friendly and this was the first time I can remember a library employee approaching me to see that I was finding everything that I needed. They also have a wonderful well balanced collection of both books and media. Even the building is beautiful with a ton of natural light streaming in as well as a patio up top to enjoy your reading outside when the weather permits. The only reason I am going with four stars instead of five is because when people print from the computer terminals it goes to the same machine that people use to photocopy which can create congestion and irritated patrons. With that being said I still love this library and look forward to becoming a more regular patron.

This is my new local library. The building definitely has an interesting design, with some kind of wavy metal roof (tin or salvaged steel?) that reminds me of the Art Gallery of Alberta.
The library collection here is a lot smaller than what I was used to downtown, but then again I think downtown has the largest collection in town since its the main one. It’s not really an issue for me though, since I usually browse the collection online and just pick up my holds at this location.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and even welcomed us to the neighbourhood upon our first visit when we explained we just moved. Adult fiction and nonfiction are on the main floor along with a kids’ corner, while everything else (young adult, magazines, DVDs, and CDs) are on the second floor. There are plenty of computers and seating for everyone, even outdoor seating on the second floor balcony — perfect for summer!
Parking is a bit limited since it’s a smaller library, but there’s also additional parking and even a hybrid car parking spot for the staff. There’s also a quick and convenient book drop off in the back too.
We’re happy to call Jasper Place our new community library :)

Now one of the most unique looking libraries in the city, the Jasper Place branch is transforming more into an information and technology resource centre. There does not seem to be as many books or audio-​visual resources in the branch, but I tend to reserve items to be held for me at this location anyways. I love being able to sit on the stairs and work on my laptop, or plop down into one of the numerous comfy chairs. Maybe this is style over substance, but I still love coming here.

Free library card, yay! Free library bag coupon, yay! And new library, yay and yay! The new library has a cool design that allows for lots of light inside. It’s bright and they have funky chairs to relax and sit back with a book or magazine. There’s also an outdoor seating area upstairs which is a great idea! There’s also a number of outlets if you want to bring your laptop or use the computer they have downstairs.
The space looks big but I was surprised there wasn’t more in the collection. However, they have lots of resources and information on their website,
and the digital content tab. I love you can read magazines and newspapers in other languages, find information to help you write a resume, start a business, or learn about what’s happening in the health world. Oh and don’t forget about the e-​books too! It’s too bad there’s so much stuff online as it’s a nice library to visit and enjoy! I’m sure they will still have lots of visitors enjoying the building. The only complaint is that the front desk is right when you walk in and there’s not much room if you need to line up. But the staff are helpful once you get to the front of the line.

I went here to pick up my library card after it expired a while back. I had to borrow a book for an assignment that day in class and so I was in quite a rush.
The woman who was helping me out was really friendly. She told me that if I didn’t have the money to pay for the library card that they would just give it to me for free. I thought this was a little bizarre, but nonetheless, I didn’t have my bankcard on me or any cash so this was a huge advantage.
After signing me up for a new card, the woman helped me find the book I was looking for and even checked me out right then and there.
I was really appreciative of this woman. Without her help, I wouldn’t have been able to do my school assignment that day!
