NOT happy with my latest visit. I used to live in this neighbourhood12 years ago, so I was here often. Things have sure changed. When did it become O.K. to walk around and talk loudly on your cell phone? Why do customers and staff carry on loud coversations with utter disregard for the patrons trying to read? I just couldn’t believe I was in a library. Aside from that, they did not have any of the books on my list. They were not checked out, they simply did not exist. The location is great, but I won’t go back. My local EPL is better.

This location isn’t the best one in Edmonton but it hardly matters since you can order any book from any site and they drop it off at any EPL location you want. It’s tough to rate a single building because I love the EPL as a collective but I wanted to just let people know that although the staff here are great it is a pretty noisy place. It’s beside a high school and a mall so I’m sure that doesn’t help. I’ve walked in here on some weekends and it looks like a daycare too. Little tikes running around. One kid was eating snowy dirt off the floor once too. I have no real problem with that personally but if you plan to sit and read here try to avoid it if you can. I just get what I want and get out. EPL has great online programs so take advantage everyone!

This isn’t my usual branch, but I’ve stopped by a few times. This branch doesn’t have as big as selection as you can find at other locations, but there’s definitely a lot to browse, and you can request anything from EPL online and pick it up here. Their hours are pretty good… although they close early Friday and Saturday, and don’t open at all on Sunday. The location is fairly accessible, just off Groat road, north of Westmount Mall, and they have a decent sized parking lot.

Over the past year and a half I’ve rekindled my relationship with the Edmonton Public Library, more specifically the Woodcroft Branch. Since having my daughter I have had more opportunities to read for pleasure and found that buying books was a waste of money. So I turned to the best source for books — the library. Now, thinking back to my childhood in a small town the library was old and the Dewey Decimal System catalog was on recipe cards. When I moved to the city for school I was surprised more options were available. Now, with the leaps and bounds in technology, the library is new and fun again. Getting back to my daughter, a few months after she was born we enrolled in a library program(free to library members — fee can be waived if your means aren’t high) called Baby Laptime. This is something I recommend to any mom or dad as you’re involved with other parents and little ones of similar age. Most of the children’s programs involve singing, reading stories, games and bubbles! Other infant, child and pre-school programs are offered, such as: Sing, Sign, Laugh and Learn, Fun for Ones, Time For Twos, to name a few. Many programs are offered for teens and adults such as: computer use, special interest topics and networking. So, from books of every topic to suit your interest to computers for those who don’t have them to programs and workshops, the library really does offer something for everyone. At times it’s nice to get out of the house and sit in peace and quite and get lost in a good book.
