Am I to save no to cheap delicious Chinese food? NEVER The menu here is huge but for a place with a huge menu the food was good. I bought a mini set. It was a pretty good portion and came with a free hot drink. You can get mini sets before 5 which is a good deal since it’s around $ 8 – 9 for a good portion of food. I got the Thai Style Prawn Fried Rice, and a Warm Lemon Coke. What astonished me was they had good service. I don’t mean to say anything but usually when I go for Chinese food I don’t except service at all. I go for cheap food… That is all. You pour your own drinks, etc. We got a super nice waitress which was really nice :)

There are two«Hong Kong Café» style restaurants on the North Road area, and this is the better of the two in my opinion. Tucked away in the corner of this«L» shaped plaza right on the corner of Austin and North, and beside the busy California Sushi, this place I have known to really like, due to the food selection, price, and seating(it’s actually a comfy place!) They offer all your Western Style Chinese food you would expect from Hong Kong Café’s menu selections, from the baked pork chop rice, to the steak’s with sides. The one addition that I must say they have is Shanghainese food on the menu, and they have quite a bit, from XLB’s, to the old hot and sour soup. For me, this is all comfort food, and working out here, there is not much selection, but I will not say this place is bad, as this place does the job pretty well. Another thing, and it is probably the area, they take card, which always amazes me, since most of these places are CASHONLY. From a chinese mouth, the food here is alright.

Came here once with a group of friends for a birthday lunch and everybody ordered bubble tea and an individual meal. The food wasn’t horrible per se, but simply lacked any thing that made it memorable. Furthermore, the drinks poorly made. There were chunks of black plastic in all the drinks and when we told the lady serving, she didn’t offer any good explanation or apology. We ended up leaving the drinks and some of the food behind.

We moved to Burnaby a few months ago. The first question I asked my Japanese restaurant owning landlords, was ‘Where are the good take-out places?’. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a list from them… so we had to discover the restaurants through trial and error. When we first tried Lulu — out of necessity — when we had no food in the kitchen — I ordered a delivery. I wasn’t impressed — and I realise now why I wasn’t impressed. We were ordering for a young 3 — 7 year old family, where any hint of spice would be rejected, and it tasted bland. My husband, on the other hand thought it was divine. Tonight, I went in to get an emergency take-out, because Sushi California(massive servings of sashimi!), 2 – 3 doors down, was being refurbished. This time, I got the kids ribs and spaghetti from next door, whilst I treated the adults to a taste-fest. Spicy Green Bean(8.50), Kung Po Chicken with Peanuts, Wonton Soup and just plain old rice, was a great and very tasty surprise. Great flavours, fresh ingredients and a super-fast 10-minute wait. Just how I like it. What I liked about dropping in to collect the food, was seeing what other Chinese/Korean folk had ordered, and thanks to that preview I plan to return very, very soon for some serious experimentation.
