If you’re representing AUPE52 or just work at the University of Calgary Foothills Campus, or McCaig Tower, you might know about the Kinetix FItness Centre, located on the first floor of the TRW Building. A smaller, quiet facility, you can always find space to get your sweat on. They offer personal training services, towel service(cause some people forget to do laundry) and a multitude of classes. The bonus is that you can sign up for classes without being a member, but members do get 40% off and are privy to two lunch time offerings(Core Mondays and Circuit Thursdays). Very nice selection of equipment, they have 4 cross trainers, 5 treadmills and several stationery bikes, which all face 3TV options. I always point my head in the direction of the Food Network and pretend I am eating all the foods instead of running on a treadmill. They also have a multitude of weight machines and free weights. The back of the gym offers a studio, where the classes are held. This gym is also excellently positioned for you to be able to run 7 flights of stairs, if you or your trainer is so inclined(I am looking at you, trainer Chris! ;)). Nice change rooms with showers, but this is my main complaint as it is very cramped in there if a class lets out. 12 people do not fit well in the space trying to get ready to head back to the office. Take note Kinetix is also a scent free environment. I am also not 100% enthralled as despite the signs of «As a courtesy to the neighbours below, do not drop the weights on the floor,» patrons still drop their weights and I am one of the neighbours below. One of the water fountains is also busted, but this is the University Facilities Management’s fault for not fixing. They have limited hours, they are closed on weekends and holidays and are not open too late during the week, but when Kinetix is closed, members have the option to use the Main Campus gym facilities. Hooray for options! But all in all, the staff are helpful, friendly and kind, though be sure to bring your water bottle if you are partaking in a class, cause otherwise you will dehydrate.
