So here’s the Jimmy! Today being Saturday 31st of August and Labour Day long weekend I Took a little trip to the candy store for a few nibbles. I was not just shocked but completely disgusted with what I saw and was told! I so walk in and was doing a little walk around and noticed a bottle of Lucozade and thought yum. I looked at the quid price of 1.69 and turned the bottle round to see the price they are charging a ridiculous $ 7.85. I almost laughed my jeans off! So I walked away as quick as possible to oh! the candy I love«Violets» only to see these were out of date on 31st of August 2014, So being there were about 15 – 20 rolls in there, I started a convo with the young extremely nervous girl who was working. I explained that there is quiet a few out of date or very soon like tomorrow products that are still sitting there. She tried to explain something that completely makes me understand where people in certain retail jobs are ripped apart by others. She stated they are still fine and that people still come in and buy them, she said the owner is aware. So at that point I took my two cans of Ginger Beer(Still in date) and left. I will never return to this place. When the owner of ANY company doesn’t care about product and/or their customers, I can only hope they get closed down soon. I also uploaded the pictures for example. In case some people think I’m being out of order, I run an independent business here in Calgary that is in retail selling horror and sci-fi merch called«Haven of Horrors» and I will always put my customers first regardless! People with small businesses need, NEED to realise without customers, providing not just amazing products but great customer service means everything.

This is a great little candy shop but the down side is that most of the candy is super old and hard as a rock! Oh yeah and very expensive

I just had my first visit this past Friday morning, so I was feeling a bit weird about being in here before noon. You really need some time to look around because there’s a lot to look at. I enjoy chocolate more than candy and there really wasn’t any chocolate I was excited about. Again, maybe it was too early in the day. I was drawn to the bulk Jelly Belly section and I like that you can choose your own flavors. The cream soda and root beer beans are bangin! I’d definitely stop in again when I’m in the neighborhood and give it another shot.

Pip pip, jolly good. Those are English terms, right? Should be, because I came out with rhubarb & custard pips from Jolly Goods. Next time I hear someone say, «Pip pip» I’ll be sure to hold out my hand and reply, «Yes please.» Over 90% of the goods in store are imported. And the majority of those? Sweets!(That’s what I’m supposed to call them, right? Instead of candy?) I also came home with a Dairy Milk Turkish treat, Fry’s Chocolate Cream bar, Jaffa Cakes, Sarsaparilla drops and Strawberry Bön Bons. Although there is a wall with a few canned and packaged goods(like spotted dick in a can… yep). If you’re craving some ice cream, there’s a counter full of flavours as well. Really, what more could you want in a candy store? Pip pip!

I dare say you’ll have a jolly good time if you pop into the Jolly Goods Candy Stop, because I know I did! The woman that owns the shop is really friendly and informative. Before talking to her, I had no idea that the Queen of England had so much to do with British candy. In fact, you can verify the authenticity of British candy by looking for the Queen’s Royal Insignia on the packaging. And hey, if it’s good enough for the Queen of England, it’s good enough for me! The imported candy doesn’t have the same amount of preservatives as North American candy typically does, meaning it has an expiration date. Which is comforting, considering we consume it, and all. Besides the bountiful selection of candy and chocolate, the Jolly Goods Candy Stop also has an ice cream counter. The owner was hard at work mashing up British Cadbury chocolate fingers to add to one of the ice creams while we chatted. As well, there’s also a modest selection of savoury items — bacon, traditional Scottish meat pies, and a selection of McCoy’s Man Crisps. If any of you remember O’Ryan’s Sour Cream & Onion Chips, they’re just like that! There are tons of uniquely British flavours, too, like curry and chili prawn. So, whether you’re craving sweets from your homeland, or you’d just like to try what candy they eat across the pond, give Jolly Goods a try. The Queen’s on the money!
