Delirium Monasterium

More hip-​hop night club, shot drinking feel than a café dedicated to monastery/​Trappist beers. Somewhat expected given the late closing time but not a place for quiet contemplation of one’s beer or quiet conversation. Beer quality is mostly good and servers know how to pour bottle conditioned beers. Prices are good.

Le choix d’alcool est quasi-​infini, les places assises assez nombreuses malgré la forte affluence.
Une bonne adresse pour faire la grosse teuf’ sons fond de Rock !
À éviter par contre si vous souhaitez passer un moment plus intimiste, le brouhaha ambiant, la musique à haut volume, et les litres de bières en train de sécher sur le sol en rebutera plus d’un.

Dans une rue 100% bar et alcool, on trouve le Delirium Monasterium pour se faire une petite bière (ou autre). Il est à côté du Delirium Café, plus connu et beaucoup plus grand. Pour être honnête, nous avons choisi le Monasterium car l’autre était complet…
Le principal intérêt de ce bar est la décoration intérieure. On y trouve de nombreuses références à la religion catholique avec des vitraux, d’où le terme Monasterium. Pour le reste, des tables, des tonneaux, un pub assez classique.
Malgré le nom Delirium, célèbre brasserie belge, on sert bien évidemment autre chose que de la Delirium Tremens. Ce n’est pas le pub qui je recommande sur Bruxelles, tant l’offre permet de trouver mieux, mais c’est toujours un endroit pour étancher sa soif !

The Delirium Monasterium is situated right next door to the taphouse and café (Delirium), But also the Tequila Bar (Over 500) .
The Monasterium is primarily a Vodka bar with over 400 there including there own flavoured ones. you could buy a metre of vodka for around 22 Euros.
Atmosphere was really nice and chilled even when it was heaving with tourists asking for the smallest taster glass of beer!
Worth a trip if you like Vodka but if you want Beer go to the Taphouse

Having been a fan of Delirium for years, I was excited to visit the Monasterium. Compared to the other bars on the narrow alley, this one had few patrons. We made friends with a couple from Canada who apparently needed some peace and quiet away from the noisy bars as well. You will find a decent beer selection here as well as a skilled English-​speaking bartender.

In the most tourist-​y street in all of Brussels, you will find a place, that is frequented by both tourists and locals and offers a really nice choice of abbey and trappist beers. During calm week evenings, I take my guests here. Calm enough for a chat, but busy enough so you feel comfortable. And I really appreciate their choice of music, from old blues to a new-​ish pop, they really know what to play in a pub like this. About 10 beers on tap and more than a hundred (I didn’t count though) of bottled special beers. If you don’t know which one to order, try Saint Bernardus, that one works for me anytime.

This Delirium was small and not so loud. It was my first bar in Brussels. That being said, it was a good place to start. Enough options of beer, but not enough to overwhelm you.
However, I didn’t return to this particular place after my first visit.

Ici, pas de tequilas, mais un TRÈS large choix de bières.

Having been referred to Delirium by most people who refer to themselves as Belgian beer connoisseurs, I clearly missed where I was supposed to land when I wound up at the seemingly abandoned Monasterium rather than the packed basement Café. Having expected a massive beer list and a place packed with tourists, it was nice to simply be able to sit in a room where I could hear myself think and that filled slowly when people saw there was actually someone sitting there.
The bartender, gratefully fluent in English, clearly knows his beers (unlike the idiots who tend bar back home who only know how to mix drinks on demand and couldn’t tell you what’s on their beer list, let alone tell you what any of them might be like) and the art of pouring one, and is a pleasure to chat with. Only a short list of maybe seven or eight incredible draft beers and the other standard bar beverages were available directly from the Monasterium. Pints are about what you’d pay at any decent bar for a lesser beer.
I was informed that, should I wish to peruse the Café’s extensive list, of which there is one at the Monasterium, and bring a beer back to consume, there would be no problem doing so and checked that out for myself with no problem. Apparently one can purchase a copy of the list of beers if such a souvenir is desired. Unfortunately, not all of the beers on the Café’s list were available (I was looking for a Canadian bottle on Canada Day, just a week after the St-​Jean-​Baptiste Day party and only the more common stuff was left over), but that wasn’t the Monasterium’s fault.

Cette enseigne est dédiée aux bières trappistes et d’abbaye. Elle propose aussi une fameuse carte de vodkas et de cocktails. Prisé par les touristes, l’endroit est également apprécié des connaisseurs!

Dernier né de la famille des cafés Delirium, le Monasterium officie depuis mai 2011 dans la même impasse que son illustre aîné.
Comme on né change pas un concept gagnant, la star est toujours la bière, mais pas n’importe laquelle: la trappiste et plus généralement toutes les bières d’abbaye, de la très commerciale Leffe à la non moins goûtue Chimay bleue.
Pour celui qui a fait le tour du sujet, hélas, n’espérez pas y trouver de Westvleteren. En revanche, je recommande vivement l’excellente Trappe Quadrupel, 7ème trappiste au monde, brassée en Hollande.
Et l’ambiance dans tout cela? Un drôle de mélange. D’un côté, on a droit à de la musique électro/​pop, irradié par une lumière tamisée incandescente. De l’autre, on est immergé dans un Moyen-​Âge en carton-​pâte, avec ses vitraux factices, ses tables-​tonneaux et autres brols russes cachés au fond du bar, censés nous rappeler que celui-​ci sert également de nombreuses vodkas d’Europe de l’est…
Verdict: A tester entre amis, en espérant qu’il né devienne pas aussi bruyant et surchargé que son voisin, le Delirium Café.
