I’m partial the colour orange. I have to be. Otherwise I’d hate myself. But as much as I think it suits me, I don’t know that Barzaar manages to pull it off quite as well. But you know why that doesn’t matter? Because I took a try at a slot-machine. I sunk two dollars into it, and with that investment, the machine saw fit to reimburse me for my lunch. It was a nice enough thing to do, and I was truly grateful, but you’ll forgive me if I didn’t express my gratitude in so many words. That the machine had become self-aware was enough of a problem, without my supplying it with bolstering affirmation. But anyway, it’s hard to hate a place where the lunch is free, but other than the gambling, the rest of the experience was largely forgettable. The service is fine and all, but the atmosphere isn’t my type of scene and though I finished the chicken I ordered, I didn’t especially relish it. And what’s with the name?

This family friendly bistro and bar offers good value for money. BISTRO The menu is generally typical bistro fare, but there are a few more imaginative dishes too. Pescatarians are well catered for, with a good seafood menu, as are vegetarians. The baked Fig and Goats Cheese Tart tart made with walnut pastry and served with roquette salad and apple and balsamic dressing is pleasant. But my favourite dish for veggies there is the vegetarian salad, which features haloumi cheese that’s been marinated in truffle oil with fresh basil, with roasted root vegetables, baby spinach and walnuts, topped with pomegranate syrup. There’s a range of meat dishes too and my bloke had the 300-gram grain-fed eye fillet seasoned with a rosemary and thyme salt and served atop a roast garlic mash with fresh greens and mushrooms, topped with a beef jus. He found it to be quite nice. BISTROOPENINGHOURS The bistro is open for lunch Monday to Friday 12pm-2.30pm and for dinner Monday to Saturday from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. GAMINGROOM There are plenty of pokies in a room for people who like that kind of thing.
