I loved Ananas. Had dinner here and first impression was quirky but elegant. Dimmed lighting but enough lighting to see what you were eating. I had the scallops and it was perfect. Seared just enough. Book ahead as it gets pretty busy.

Absolutely delicious! The food was amazing, every taste and flavour was to savour. Dessert was out of this world, nice ambiance — with very dark surrounds. I enjoyed a Bellini(one of the few places in Sydney that serves them!) would love to go back to try other cocktails and enjoy a meal again!

A high quality restaurant set up in an old building making the most of the buildings character. Lighting was subdued but sufficient although the booths at the ends of the restaurant looked rather dark. Table were appropriately sized with quality settings. We had entrées of Oysters and Ricotta Ravioli; mains of Moroccan Lamb Shoulder and Duck Confit: Dessert of Le Chocolat. All courses were appropriately sized, well presented meals of excellent quality. The drinks list was overwhelming but the staff helped us find what we wanted. The staff were professional, friendly without being obtrusive. The courses were not rushed which was in line with a French dining experience. This was an excellent ding experience which took us back to France.

French restaurant that does all the French classics. The onion soup was hearty — it fills you up so order a light main. The mussels could do for two people, again huge portions. My fellow Diners enjoyed the fish, duck confit and boullibaise. Service was friendly, there are so many tables, they don’t rush you out the door even when You are over two hours. The desserts were great too. A little pricey but great for a French night out.

This is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve been to Ananas and the first time in over a year. The menu was completely different this time and, in my opinion, even though it had more items, there was LESS variety. For one, I was looking for the exquisite mushroom pasta dish I had 2 years ago, one of the best things on the menu, which… was not on there. There were 3 or 4 beef dishes and 2 or 3 whole fish dishes on the list of mains, and the one main I would have loved to order(the mussels and pommes frites), they had run out of. So I had the French Onion Soup and the beef cheeks. I know and love French cuisine, I know its saucy and somewhat heavy, but it should be executed with finesse. It should feel rich and decadent, not heavy and fatty and brick-like in your stomach. The French Onion soup was just laden down with cheese and very salty and I flat out didn’t like the sauce on the Beef cheeks. It was bitter. I reckon someone burnt it and decided to ladel it onto my plate anyway. C’est tres mal! On top of that, we were sitting in the dark! WTF!!! They gave us a booth at the back and seemed visibly annoyed when I mentioned the lighting and insisted on them bringing a candle over. They brought a candle, it was a tiny tealight in this huge candle holder that completely muted the little light. Pretty much should not have bothered. Then they told me to use my phone to read the menu. Seriously. Not a good fine dining experience. I will no longer be recommending them as I have in the past.

I went here for a fancy after work drink with a friend and it was delightful. A beautiful décor with pineapple(ananas in French) and French themes. The staff were friendly and attentive although for the price, I’d hoped they had a bit more knowledge about their food and drinks but not a huge deal. For example we ordered dirty vodka martinis and she asked if we wanted Smirnoff and to be honest I wouldn’t have even thought they would have Smirnoff or that they would default to something nicer, then I was confused about the price and I wasn’t there to be cheap(we went with grey goose in the end for $ 28) I just like to know how much my drink will be. She was helpful but had to check the computer and the menu didn’t say. We also asked another girl about oysters and she told us her favorite but not much information about the actual oysters… maybe I’m being harsh but expected more of a premium experience there. The cocktails were amazing. We had one with Rose and elderflower with an edible pansy which was soooo good. The oysters were nice and came with cocktail sauce, fresh horseradish and a vinegar sauce… I was happy about the cocktail sauce as a Canadian. We got the French onion soup which was amazing! Very salty but I like salt. There was a complimentary amuse bouche which was also nice. The complimentary bread was just medium. All in all a nice experience but not a 5 star experience.

Eclectic décor provides an interesting backdrop to some beautiful food. Great service and very accommodating in squeezing us in at the bar to eat without a booking — Merci. Best spot to view the cocktail skills up close! Very much enjoyed Saturday nights dinner: Fruits de mer Soupe à l’oignon gratinée Steak au Poivre Asperges sauce hollandaise Plus of course, vin… Champagne Chablis Pinot Noir Shiraz Très bon !!

We had a wonderful meal with excellent service. My wife had the Beef Cheek(never had it before) which was terrific. I had the Steak Frites which was done to perfection . My wife lost her new Opal broach and was very distraught. The staff found it, hunted us down and returned it. How wonderful is that! Bravo

Went to their monthly champagne brunch and it was AMAZING! The décor was beautiful and the food was so good –breads, cheeses, oysters, suckling pig, lamb… the list goes on! I went with a group of 6 girls and we had such a great time. The bottomless Moet was fabulous and our glasses never got close to being empty before the server would top us up! Highly recommend — it’s totally worth the price.

Couldn’t improve anything for the business lunch at Ananas. Service was friendly and professional. Steak Frites perfect, wine — a French Malbec(new to me) spot on. Decent price too

I had the French Onion soup and Beet root salad. Both were awesome and the wait staff was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant if you like traditional French cuisine.

Was a very pleasant experience. On Australia Day it was almost empty so it was the perfect time to have an uncluttered dining experience. I had heard so much about the desserts that I wanted to try one. It was everything I wanted.

Loved, the ambiance. Loved our food. Loved the server. But the lag time in getting a cocktail from the bar was unbelievably slow so one star was lost. First of all, this place is intimate, cozy and warm. I loved the historic building it sits in and the décor is very french without being stuffy. i was seated at a small table in the corner, perfect to watch the people go by. Our server, Romain, was terrific; pleasant, personable and knowledgeable. He quickly went through his favorite items and went to put in our drink order. Seemed like such a simple thing but I really have no idea where they were getting our drinks from as we were finished with our first course by the time the drinks finally arrived. What the heck happened? The rest of the evening was flawless from the charcuterie plate, to my perfectly cooked steak, to the creamy mashed potatoes, to my companion’s dinner, it was all as it should be. Too bad the bartender was so overwhelmed as it was clear the drinks weren’t sitting there waiting to be picked up as they were cold and fresh and my martini had pieces of ice still in it. All in all, a wonderful dining experience with the exception of the drink snafu. Surprisingl in a place like this that seemed to have everything else all going for it.

Dinner tonight at Ananas Restaurant was magnifique! The ambience can be described as inviting and elegant. The lights are low but reveal funky furnishings. Our French waiters were charming and suggested exquisite dishes from the menu. We shared the scallops for entrée and each had a main of either lamb, chicken or fish. My friends and I were all raving about the flavours and how much we enjoyed our meal. Will recommend Ananas to friends who are looking for a nice restaurant that is just a little bit fancy; and strongly suggest they check out the cocktail list too!

Just amazing. Even something as simple as their sausage roll is amazing. I’d recommend trying the piña colada. I won’t give too much away other than saying it’s pretty special.

It’s disturbing having to write this review because it involves a restaurant that should know better. All romance is lost at Ananas when you extort patrons with unfair retail practises then use intimidation to secure payment. If you’re going to sell patrons $ 280 entrees off the specials list, recited by your waiting staff but without disclosing the price, then expect problems instead of compliments when you deliver the bill. I paid your extortionate bill, in cash, rather than deal with the police you said were called – no doubt a lie and I’m now aware you had no legal basis to make that threat – or have my date and I deal with the security guards you hire to intimidate patrons when you run your scam. I’m an experienced diner and a veteran of Sydney’s best restaurants. I have never faced an experience so unexpectedly terrible as Ananas and provide this review to forewarn patrons. We deserved better treatment and your tactics were shocking. Our meal on Friday night was as I expected. I have eaten at Ananas on five previous occasions, including my birthday. My date and I were suited up for fine dining and our dealings with the serving staff were otherwise warm. However, this occasion ended terribly. You do not advise patrons that are disputing one item on a bill that totals $ 615 that police have been called. You should avoid stand over tactics from security staff when a complaint is legitimate. Your security staff are oversized zealots borrowed from your pub to deal with brawls, there use in your fine dining facility is uncalled for and unwise. And none of this would be necessary because you should not sell items recited from an unprinted specials list for $ 280 without advising patrons in writing of the price. You should be ashamed of this Ananas and other patrons should be forewarned. I am a local businessman with a passion for fine dining. I prefer sharing positive experiences with friends. I’ve eaten somewhat similar dishes before dining at your establishment. It’s a spectacular dish at The Boathouse in Blackwattle Bay, the Tasmanian roe on potato blinis served with wasabi and crème fraiche. It’s only $ 45. Cheap, I guess, in comparison. Ananas is no «Rockpool». No one expects an item from your recited specials list to cost $ 280. It should be spelt out clearly and written down for diners. None of this was done and the consequences you are prepared to unleash on customers is staggeringly ignorant and a devastatingly disappointing way to end a night. My advice: Avoid, at all cost.

Wow! 10⁄10. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Service, food and wine. My gf said it’s the best meal she’s ever eaten. Good menu, nice seafood too. It is expensive but this place is for a special occasion. The lighting and venue is beautiful. If they had to improve anywhere I guess it could be atmosphere but that’s what you get in a huge restaurant. I would definitely come here again :)

I had to say I was disappointed. I came in a wrong night, with a function happening next door, way to noise the floor was shaking, not a busy night, but the table next to me keep complaining, ordered 4 courses every course comes in 45mins. As myself working in hospitality industry I don’t want to give hard time to the server anymore I didn’t complain. But the food also won’t be a reason for me to go back again

I’ve been meaning to try this place but either didn’t have the time or just kept forgetting! So finally got to have dinner here and it was wonderful! Staff are friendly, cocktails delicious and the food is heavenly! Interior has a nice rustic French feel and I love the pineapple lamps. I want one! Definately a must visit, located above Lowenbrau it used to be the Über bar now it’s a More classy establishment: D

I love it when you walk into a place and the bar takes up as much real estate as the dining/bistro area. ohhh its business time indeed. Now this place being a French bistro/bar, you can expect some world class champagne — if anyone is good to splash out $ 750 for a bottle of Krug Grande Cuveé Brut Magnum, feel free to call me, I’m more than happy to help you finish it off. The cocktails are made with absolute precision — perfect blend of tang and sweet — Le French Boudier was my choice of poison for the night — a good hit of gin(saffron infused gin at that), pineapple, lime and topped with cider. Some others worth mentioning — The classic Espresso Martini, a Blood Orange Cosmo and of course their signature cocktail — Absolutely Ananas(no guessing whats in that). There’s a great vibe in the bar area, plenty of stools to sit at, plenty of lights to look at(such delightful pineapple shades at that) and amazing fresh cut flowers to smell. Yes, its a smorgasboard of senses in there !!! Which takes me to the food — C’était magnifique! Here is a sample of just some of the dishes we feasted on: Caramelised seared scallops, heirloom tomato salad, lobster ravioili, snapper with saffron rice, barramundi on a bed of greens dressed in a basil oil, grass fed sirloin ohh and most of the desserts(of course) — Snickers Revolution, salted caramel éclair, cream brulee, a very fancy froyo with pop rocks(yes those little bits of candy that explode in your mouth) and an amazing green apple gelato. Considering the amount of food and drink we unashamedly demolished, the bill turned out to be quite fair($ 100 per person including tip). YES, there was a substantial tip — our waiter was in one word — THOROUGH !! He was attentive without being too suffocating. He knew that menu inside out and back to front — there was not one question we fired at him that he could not answer — this kid was ALLOVERIT !!! Ohh, I almost forgot to mention, if you’re celebrating a birthday, make sure you mention it to your waiter — they’ll soon return with a macaron and a lit candle for the lucky birthday guy/gal.
