Well, as it turns out this is one of those two in one businesses — a stationary store and a desert bar, which I has to admit is an interesting mix. Anyway, as with a lot of places, I discovered it by simply walking past, and upon looking at it I was immediately impressed. Since I hadn’t had my morning cup of tea(which I had one in my hotel room, but that was just normal tea) I decided that I would spend some time in here simply taking in the atmosphere while reading a book and drinking a pot of tea. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the décor inside was absolutely amazing. This is definitely a place I would have no problems spending more time sitting inside, especially with the atmosphere.

The lattes here are pretty good(they always have latte art: P), lots of cold drinks to choose from, and there’s a decent selection of teas which are served in the pot(albeit a small one, but it’s not a teabag!) The guys behind the counter are friendly. They greet you when you arrive and thank you when you leave. They also bring your order to the table when you dine in. These small things make the entire experience more enjoyable. There’s plenty of tables, mini tables along the side and a communal table in the middle. It’s usually quite empty except for maybe Friday and Saturday nights where people go there to catch up with friends(it gets quite noisy then too). There’s free wi-fi(and no minimum purchase) and no more powerpoints now(they used to have them but customers abused that privilege, I’m guessing). There’s even a bathroom for the customers. I’ve frequented MSM on George St many times over the past two years and it’s really close to getting 5 stars. My only qualm is the noise levels… which isn’t really their fault(since they’re situated on George St) but the pop music they play can get quite loud.

Cute shop! It has a vintage vibe with all the woody shelves and antique-y decorations. I tried the brownie and a flat white. Felt perfect for a cold and windy afternoon. Althought I wish they would serve hot soups or more comfort food in addition to the sweet desserts. Anyway, liked the friendly staffs, good food good drink! Worth a shot!

We asked for a glass of water and were refused, flat out refused. The manager told me testily he was under no obligation to serve water, it was entirely a ‘management decision’ and if I didn’t like to take it to the ACCC. I was astounded, I’ve never in my life been refused tap water. In my years of hospitality I would never have refused anyone water, and if I had I would have expected them to react just as I did. But the manager told me to go away and complain if I didn’t like it, and I replied that yes, I intended to look into it. «Do it, bring it on!» he shouted at me. That’s no way to treat customer. I will be telling everyone I know about his appalling manner.

This place was great. The desserts are amazing and the coffee was great. It is a darker bean, so if you are a Toby’s Estate fan, then this is not the place for you. Why I gave it 5 stars, is because the Oreo cheesecake was amazing. I am willing to sacrifice my left arm for another one. I actually stayed and ordered a chai latte. It was honestly one of the best chai lattes I’ve had. If you are after a simple cup of coffee, there is probably better places in the area, but if you want dessert then come on by — and this is the best chai latte I have had in the city

Visited MSM because it was close to my hostel. Honestly one of the best chai tea lattes I’ve had. Perfect amount of spice in it. Also ordered a muffin and chocolate croissant. I was surprised that they heated both up which made the already good pastries even better. Added some Garnish and fruit as well. Amazing mid morning snack. Plenty of seating and free wifi. Exactly what a backpacker wants

This was such a cute little place! I just had to try it out with some girl friends. So this café doubles as a stationery store. I really wanted to go crazy buying stuff… lots of cute little knick knacks… I’m telling you, I NEED everything in that store! My friends and I shared 3 slices of cake — the immortal sin, red velvet, and American chocolate cake(I *think* those were the names.) They were all yummy! I couldn’t decide which one I liked best! We all loved the ambiance. We stayed til closing time, it was a nice cozy place to catch up.

This place is a another alternative to starbucks, in that it provides power(for working, charging your phone, or writing Unilocal reviews), cakes, and tea/coffee. I’m a big fan of the tea in a pot because its relatively inexpensive, and they let you do refills too(and you can share with someone for $ 1 for another cup). So its a great little meeting place, or alternate workspace. Theres also stationery available here too if you need as well.
