An excellent Taiwanese fried chicken shop!!! I do tend to like it more than the other more famous one around the corner, the difference is very minimal though, but with me likening the 3Q version more and 3Q also being slightly cheaper, I always tend to pick 3Q. I like 3Q more, my wife is on the fence with 3Q vs Blue Star. I also love how when you say you want the chicken spicy, they make it the same spice for both non-Asians and Asian customers. I have been to places that discriminate on how spicy you want the food to be just because you aren’t Asian. The chicken is battered and cooked right in the spot, so it is always as fresh as it can be. I don’t mind waiting the 5 minutes for my order to be served to me as I know I am getting real chicken breast that is prepared right in front of my eyes. Yes the plain chicken is good, but also try the different flavourings. Their chips are also great!!! The only bad thing is there isn’t anywhere to sit down and enjoy the chicken properly, but that’s ok because the food is soooo good that you don’t really notice yourself walking and eating at the same time.

As the name suggests, 3Q Chicken’s specialty is, unsurprisingly, chicken. Fried chicken to be precise. Now, if you’re on a diet, you’re best off avoiding this place. Literally everything is fresh out of the deep fat fryer. But for the junk food fanatics out there, as well as people looking for a late night drunken snack or quick post cinema feed, 3Q is a must-try. The fried chicken is incredible, always juicy with just the right amount of batter and spice. Good value for money too, $ 7 gets you a massive piece of juicy, delicious fried chook. If you love fried chicken(and come on, who doesn’t) you need to give this place a try ASAP. It won’t be winning any awards for ambience(there are no tables, it’s literally a hole in the wall) nor will it feature in any foodie articles, but it’s just so damn good.

This is the LA cola of fried chicken. It tastes alright and you’ll have it, but only when there is nothing else there. However! There is the greatest fried chicken you’ll ever try(which is of course Hot Star Chicken) around the corner. Not to mention the KFC about 5 doors down in the other direction. So whilst this chicken is good enough, unfortunately due to its proximity to Hot Star this place is only getting 2 stars. I’ve actually been here twice because my friend insisted I try the chicken with the cheese inside, which was pretty good– however be wary when eating because you never know when you will stumble upon that pocket of 1000*c melted cheese which sprays everywhere, burning everything it touches. Everything here: the chicken, the batter, the sauces, the chips, is average. And this is even more the case because you are around the corner from the closest thing to nirvana you can get in the form of fried chicken. Sorry 3Q chicken. I guess I’m just a Hot Star fanboy.

Here’s a little story: for weeks, no months, I had stood outside waiting for the bus and waiting for this place to open. I have very fond memories of fried chicken in Taiwan night markets. So I was so keen for this place. I tried the place during its first opening week a few months back. My verdict? Everything is better when it’s fresh from the deep fryer(don’t think people normally put fresh and deep fry in the same sentence haha). The chicken was well cooked and served deliciously crispy. It was still tender inside as well. The seasoning was probably a bit salty for my liking but it obviously made the chicken taste yum yum. I wouldn’t mind coming back again but as close as this gets nothing beats the fried chicken from Taiwan. Damn, I can still remember that taste!

There’s a new competitor in the late-night hand-held drunk-eats market currently ruled by Hot Star, and it’s called 3Q and it’s pretty much exactly the same biz model(all fried urrthang — chicken, mushrooms, chips) with different branding and a slightly different taste. And look, it’s still piping hot, and it’s still delicious, and when you’re finishing up a big boozy night it’s still amazing — but if you want to split hairs the chicken coating is a little more batter-like, almost like beer-batter, and I think it’s like 50c more expensive maybe — perhaps reflecting the higher rent on the George St strip — but other than that it’s super similar.

For a quick bite, this place is a must try! I got the Taiwanese fried chicken which is basically small bite sized chicken fried and then tossed in seasoning – flavorful and authentic. They also have other goodies: fried sweet potato fries, fried mushroom etc. This isn’t a sit down place, its just a stand, perfect for a grab-and-go situation.
