I have alway driven past this place and never considered going in, that was until a friend mentioned she hiked there on the weekend. So I dragged my husband along on a Saturday morning. There is an entry fee of $ 12.00 but there’s no time limit so I think it’s justified. We hiked for about 6kms — admiring the bushland around us. Went through the scary pitch black tunnel and took pics of kangaroos. There is a 10 km hike but we didn’t have the time to do it that day. There are picnic tables and bbqs available and the toilets were clean. Such a great place that I think is underutilized.

Great national park situation on the main road from Midland to Mundaring. Great big car park and also a tavern there for summer days. There are some awesome walks and I usually do the 15 km loop which is a great run if your feeling energetic. Give it a try.

I’ve given this four stars but to be honest I’m not sure what you really rate a national park on so here’s my guess! I have been here a number of times as a kid and came here last weekend(late May). There had been a bit of rain and this made the park very beautiful! The day was perfect for a hike(low 20s) so that helped. We walked from Swan View through the old train tunnel to Hovea falls. Was about 8 km all round and took 2hrs with stops for photos and rests. The park has history signs along the way and proper toilets at the half way mark. Also at the halfway mark is a dam, shop and tavern. Also lots of picnic areas with little cabins(see photos). The wall follows Jane Brook which was running so that was nice. The falls were only trickling really but do pick up in the winter months.
