Went there for a pizza, ordered the pizza lasagna and eventually got the pasta lasagna. Kind of upset, i want home and ate these. And it was not good at all. Obviously microwave oven warmed up, under salted and pastas full of water as if it was badly defrost. I’ll never get there again.

I had been eying Pizza e Birra for a couple days but it’s only open in the evenings so I finally made it there at night. I ended up ordering a margarita pizza with rocket on top, a caprese salad and then coffee gelato for dessert. The wood fired pizza was so delicious and crisp. I could have eaten multiple except it was a decent size for one person. The caprese salad was also good but nothing to write home about. The gelato was also good and a very large portion for only $ 4. The waitress was very nice and helpful as well. Overall the food and atmosphere and service were fantastic. The prices were fairly high but not bad by Australian standards. Definitely a must if you’re in the St. Kilda neighborhood.

WARNING! Under New Management! Those 3 words normally cause me a bit of excitement… that an establishment has reached a pinnacle that the owner passes the torch. This experience was slightly less fortunate. We’ve frequented Pizza E Birra a number of times in the past, and they have been consistently good, in both service and food In an unfortunate start, the waitress spilled water all over our table, and scrambled to clean it up. From there, they brought the wrong wine, then the right wine but the wrong year… and the waiter was completely unapologetic, actually using the excuse they they are«under new management». The focaccia was very salty(normally a go-to for an Italian table-share), and the gnocchi was so rich I was only able to eat half of the serve. One saving grace was the beef lasagna which was as remembered and loved. Overall an unfortunate switch from a once stable choice on the Fitzroy Street strip.

I came to this place to see off one of my good mates. He had been meaning to share a meal with us at one of his favorite restaurants. I found the service to be slow. No points deducted because the restaurant is not designed to have more than 4 people at the table and we had at least 20. Make sure you say«Hi» to the waiter Remy. He is always smiling and has an impossible knack for keeping my glass full while I waited for the mains. When the food did come out, i enjoyed the fresh simple ingredients done in a true italian style. There were various types of olives and tapas, great wood fired pizzas coupled with a well considered wine list. The set menu is a great option for those who want to try out the best this restaurant has to offer. Loved the gentle lighting of this place. Really good place for food, or even just a sneaky wine with that special someone.

I like a little bit a pizza on Saturday night, on Saturday night! Pizza E Birra is a contemporary Italian pizza reataurant and bar that provides traditional Italian cuisine in a chic and modern dining venue. Owners of the highly acclaimed Caffe E Cucina and Il Bacaro Mauro Marcucci and Silvana Iacobaccio opened Pizza E Birra on Fitzroy Street in November 2007. The resturant oozes authentic Italian style with a gorgeous outdoor decked area and a fully stocked bar of both Italian and Australian beer and wine. The wood fired pizza’s are a must if you are dining at Pizza E Birra, the home made dough is stretched out thinly and laid on big wooden paddles, topped with fresh ingredients like cherry tomatoes, olives, parmesan and basil and placed into the hot ovens to bake. The result, fantastic traditional Italian pizza that is light, crisp and full of punchy flavours. Pair that with a zesty glass of Pinot Grigio and a table for two outside and you’ve got yourself one pretty incredible Italian Summer feast.
