Golden Homestyle Bakery is the perfect pit stop if you’re after a quick snack or lunch on the go. It’s a Vietnamese bakery, which makes everything ten times better, because they sell fresh rice paper rolls with two varieties of dipping sauce. (The staff are lovely — once I bought BBQ rice paper rolls and the baker made them fresh for me while I waited because, they explained, the rolls on display had been there since morning.)
The steak pies are hot and the filling is made of real meat as opposed to some of the processed brown slurry you get at other bakeries. The lamingtons are massive and fresh, and there’s a wide selection of fresh loaves — all at reasonable prices.
If you’re after a drink, Golden Homestyle probably has the largest variety I’ve ever seen in a bakery, and all three of their fridges are filled to the hilt. There are a few tables outside where you can sit, but I wouldn’t recommend it because there is usually a flock of ibises eyeing you off.
