Bat & Ball Hotel

I end up going here semi-​regularly with friends after playing sport in the park across the street. The service is friendly and okay — It’s not perfect, but I’m often there at a busy time, so I don’t fault them too much. They usually show the big sporting matches on TV, and they have Tuesday night trivia. Our group has rented out the back room before, where there are dartboards, and had a positive experience. The food is good; I particularly like the salt and pepper squid and the Sunday lamb special.

I have been to The Bat and Ball a few times over the last year and liked the food. I like the pub and have recommended it. Tonight I went there looking forward to a good dinner. I ordered the fish and chips. What I was served was soggy uncooked batter with a small portion of fish inside, chips and a cup of mashed peas. Up until tonight, the worst fish in chips I have ever had was in London, years ago. I ended up peeling the soggy batter off and eating the small portion of fish. They don’t even offer tartar sauce. When I asked for it, the waitress told me to check the condiment table.
i had hoped the waitress would have asked how everything was but she only asked if I was done, not even curious about the massive pile of soggy uncooked batter on my plate.
I had planned to have at least another beer and watch some football but I chose to leave. Sadly, I may never go back.
I’m not sure what the problem is. It seems like they want it to be something good but it was a huge miss tonight.

The Bat & Ball Hotel, stands on the corner of Cleveland and South Dowling streets, overlooking Moore Park and captures many sporting enthusiasts on route to the nearby sporting ground. This very fine grand old lady has been around since my grandma was a flapper in 1929. She used to be known as the Duke of Cleveland. (Though now she is a duchess) lol Great place to catch up with mates before your game and to celebrate after your win for drinks and some good decent pub tucker.
The Bat & Ball; has become the dream for the new owners. They have given the place much needed TLC. The owners being keen foodie trendies themselves have carefully changed the heart of this grand old pub. They have given the Bat and Ball some much needed new blood and vibrancy which Sydney sliders love.
They have done away with the TAB and installed some cool stylish though retro lights. The front of the bar has been remodelled with some cosy diner booths
Our old lady has heaps of soul and heritage, shes pumping with new life and ready for the energy she now desires. While we don’t forget her memorable history we honour her future, respect her past, and would now like to see her basque in iconic fame she so deserves.
I take my hat off to the two new owners a couple of stylish young friendly guys with a dream and passion for their old lady. These guys are real visionaries with magnetic personality’s. They welcome everyone to their pub. Good old fashioned charm of an Oldie fashioned pub style atmosphere. These guys rock! They are all prepared to accommodate Sydney’s sporting fans. The Bat and Ball loves the vibe of a happy crowd that’s what gives her heart. Happy jibber jabber, ching, ching!
Okay i am not forgetting her passionate hunger and respect for good hearty food. She knows the way to a mans heart (or Lady’s) is through the taste and satisfaction of dining irresistible food.
I am not going to go on to much about the gorgeous food my post will be too long, and that’s a good thing. Though I will post a copy of the menu for you readers to feast your eyes on the delightful choice of food available. My personal favorite would have to be, Chicken & Leak Pie, Divine, thou embarrassing as I felt I wanted to scrape my plate super clean.
They also have a super special steak night, $ 12 sirloin mash, salad, yummy.
I would recommend the Bat and Ball to anyone, these guys deserve the support from potential and regular diners. They are doing a wonderful job. You guys have won my heart :-)

The service is ¹⁰⁄₁₀ food ¹⁰⁄₁₀ guys what can i say. Even if my team lost I am a winner to find The Bat and Ball!!!
