Excellent restaurant for both brunch and dinner. At brunch, order the liquorice bread as an extra — it is so amazing and better than what you would imagine. Get in early on weekends for an outdoors table. Very exciting brunch menu — more interesting than the usual fare.

Where do I start? Actually that’s easy. The licorice bread. I know, I know, licorice not for everyone. And bread isn’t that exciting. But this not overwhelming licorice; it’s, like, gooey, salty, buttery, perfectly balanced, perception-altering goodness, all packaged up in a perfectly-cut, black, little cubes that looked like they were cut out of a molcajete. It was pretty amazing. If I had to offer some criticism on this dish, it would be the portion size. I would highly recommend that they increase it to, oh I don’t know, maybe 10 kgs? That would probably be enough. Probably. The poached eggs were also quite impressive, poached to perfection and perfect with a piece or two of sourdough. The baked eggs were good, but a bit rich for breakfast, and the scrambled eggs were, well, fine. Add to that great coffee, friendly service and a very cool location, and this is probably one of the best brunch locations in Sydney! Can’t quite round up to 5 stars with the«good enough» scrambled eggs and baked eggs, but I’d be happy to give 4.5 if Unilocal had the option! Oh, did I mention the licorice bread? I did? Good. Just making sure.

The place is big with both inside and outside seats, and seems to be always packed with people. The overall experience to us was not so memorable and satisfying. It was very dark to sit inside the ‘Yellow house’ on a beautiful saturday morning while other people are exposed to bright sunshine, and we were sitting inside super cold and could barely see the food and surroundings. We ordered two coffee, two type of breakfast and the famous liquior rice cake. Nothing was beyond expectation indeed, and the price is well above average. Will probably never go again and certainly will not recommend.

So we set out this morning after arriving via a long flight the prior evening in search of something to eat. Strolled past and had a look at the menu, which looked very interesting, and tables were available. So we settled in and had a lovely meal — food was interesting and tasty, service was professional and polite, and we were not rushed. Noise level was pleasantly low and we were able to have a conversation without needing to shout. For me, fried eggs with pickled mussels and zucchini, sourdough toast with Szechuan marmalade; for my wife, poached eggs with pumpkin and mushrooms, liquorice toast. We’re only here a few days, but we’ll be back.

I’ve been here two more times since my last review– both for breakfast. We went yesterday and they are currently partnering with Grey Goose to have something called La Boulangerie, which is basically highlighting bread made with the same wheat as the vodka. We had the pumpkin consumme with mushrooms and poached eggs and the artichoke, blood sausage purée, and white scrambled eggs. Both came with some of the bread they are showcasing. I loved both dishes. They offer something really interesting — not your typical breakfast. The pumpkin consumme is probably my favourite so definitely order that if you’re torn. Also make sure you leave room for dessert. I hate licorice but was able to try the licorice bread the last time was there at is divine. It’s grilled and served with homemade butter — so delicious!

Had a fantastic dinner here with friends last Friday. Modern French gastro type cuisine with a big wine list of Aussie & European wines. Really enjoyed the quinoa & mushroom crackers(we ended up getting a 2nd serve), grilled octopus starter and beef tri-tip main. Delicious. Also shared a bottle of Mount Mary Reflexion 2009 after getting some good advice from the waiter. Great atmosphere, not too stuffy and the right kind of food for a cold winter’s night.

Why, just because you work or own a nice fancy place do you have to be so damn rude about it? It’s so rare to have food in a nice environment AND have good service, and yellow is no exception. The place is so nice, the big couches are comfortable, the music is good… but then you walk in and the owner is asking you rudely to «close the door quick», the food takes ages to arrive, and the waiter brings you the bill without you having asked for it, as a sign to please get out of here. If at least the food was irreproachable I would half forgive them, but it is not: the food is actually quite forgettable. We had two coffees, the lamb sandwich and scrambled eggs on toast. The sandwich was tasty although had too much sauce. The eggs on the other hand came with a pretty disgusting mayo that was completely unnecessary. We left with an unsatisfied feeling and the impression that we had been kicked out. Never again! Boo you Sydney«hipsters» with your beards and caps! No one should think they’re too cool to be polite!

Wonderful modern, French cuisine. The restaurant was a great balance of setting, food, wine and service. Highly recommended for a nice dinner option.

Firstly, the coffee was ok but not spectacular. With that out of the way, everything else was really good. We had baked eggs and fried eggs with black pudding. If black pudding is your thing, they made the best one I’ve had in a long time. Not greasy at all. The yogurt mixed in baked eggs was a culinary delight.

Hello yellow. Not only are you my favorite colour, but now you come in the form of an awesome restaurant. We enjoyed matched wines over a five course degustation. Each dish was spectacular, starting with a fabulously refreshing steak tartare with a perfectly formed egg yolk — its a little chunkier tartare than most I’ve tried, so unleash your inner caveman and get into it. The lamb shoulder was also perfectly cooked and was served with a gorgeous jacket potato in the form of a cup cake. Attention to detail is at the heart of every dish. I also loved the ambience and friendly and knowledgeable staff — will definitely return!

Yellow’s a pop-up, no more. It’s Old Yeller now, having earned its rightful place amongst the established stars of the Potts Point gastronomic firmament courtesy of the team that brought us Bentley and Monopole. Probation’s up, says the headmistress. Time to lift those skirts! But the novelty of the New Kid on the Block has not worn off yet, at least not on me. In my defense, their weekend brunch may still be a newish thing. And OK, I got over the odd black geometric circles in the décor pretty fast and found that choice neither inspired nor interesting. I tried two of Yellow’s weekend brunch offerings yesterday, both good — Cuttlefish, Avocado, Celery & Yuzu Vinaigrette($ 18) Thin, delicate strips of celery covering a pile of finely sliced cuttlefish, slightly chewy and clean to the palate. Dabs of avocado purée, perhaps with egg yolks as an emulsifier, almost resembling the consistency of aioli. A nice brightness from the yuzu. The cuttlefish offered little flavor of its own, and was dominated by the celery. I liked the little spice mix, to me resembling dukkah, topping the salad. A good starter, light and unobtrusive, a bit one-note. Poached Egg with Charred Onion Consommé, Mushrooms & Peas($ 16) 3 eggs poached sous vide, with egg whites assuming the form of melting custard and completely liquid orange centers, indistinguishable from raw. They were bathed in lukewarm onion broth, deeply savory and amazingly transluscent. A western, vegetarian phở, if you will. Off to the side were punctuated bites of salty chestnut mushrooms. Peas offered contrasting sweetness, and fun toasted oat(?) grains gave the taste and texture of popcorn kernels. A brilliantly conceived, and executed, dish. One star off for truly mediocre Vittoria coffee($ 3.50). I no longer expect good coffee anywhere that brand is served. Why it is served at all is another discussion entirely.

Absolutely fantastic dinner at Yellow last night– it’s the same people that do Monopole and Bentley and based on the food I had at the Bentley(I haven’t been to Monopole) I wasn’t expecting a stellar meal. Wow, was I wrong! My two friends and I decided to do a bit of our own tasting menu and opted for 4 starters and 2 mains. The starters were all a hit and better than the mains so the next time I go I’ll probably just get one of all of the starters(don’t judge). The beef tartare is probably the best dish I’ve eaten in some time and the lamb sweetbreads a close second. The chef pays a lot of attention to all of the elements on the plate here and everything paired beautifully together. The octopus was also a great dish with an excellent pea and wasabi purée. Make sure to get a healthy dose of their homemade bread and butter as well– top the butter with a bit of salt to make it just that much better. For mains, we opted with the zucchini and quinoa dish as well as the sirloin. Both were good, but could not compare to the starters– skip the zucchini dish as it was rather bland. The cocktails are also fantastic and the bartenders are very accommodating when it comes to substitutions if you don’t like a particular type of alcohol. The bartenders also do a great job of asking you what type of drinks you like so that they can point you in the right direction for the perfect cocktail. A definite MUSTDO in Potts Point!
