Great atmosphere, nestled in a quiet area of the Cross. Homely décor and quick service. The meals are moderately sized which is perfect as some places you are given way too much food. Coffee from Gypsy Expresso was awesome. Definitely a must if you are impressing your friends…

Unilocal cannot describe the mixture of positive vibes that this place feeds me each and every visit. The décor is obviously of note; old and new and borrowed and blue, you feel safe and alive with colour and bright natural light. Which compliments the food brilliantly. The menu caters to all tastes, but the breakfasts make a particularly good impression. Should you be popular and good looking enough to eat with a small-to-medium group of friends(a rare treat for me), the upstairs den feat. day bed is a brilliant way to wile away a sunny afternoon over coffee and a smashed avocado toast. Keep an eye out for Dee, the propieter and customer service extraordinaire. Her passion for her work is obvious and contagious. Five well earned stars for variety, taste, service and ambience.

This place is a lot of fun. The décor makes you feel like you’re a hookah bar when you’re upstairs. There are couches and floor cushions and the best is the little nook that you can enjoy your meal in. They do have normal tables downstairs, but there can be a wait… well worth it might I add. The food was really good here and you have to try the poached eggs. They have great coffee as well. Would be very keen on checking out the rest of the menu.

Tucked away in a double Victorian Terrace, formerly the site of a nightclub is Chez Dee. Chez Dee is an unexpected gem of loveliness serving as a multiple personality of café, providore and wine bar. Welcoming and homely within the renowned night life hub of Kellett Street, Kings Cross, we visit for lunch and I’m pleased to see the partnership of Byron Woolfrey and Nicola Patterson provide a concise and eye watering menu. Chez translates to ‘House of’ and I learn from their Facebook page that Dee is the waitress who serves us. My discerning eye skirts quickly around the café and I see what I assume is their renowned poached eggs with mushroom and hollandaise sauce, generous in proportion and no doubt satisfying to the hungry consumer who approves the deal with a disturbing sighing of a voracious kind. I see unmatched cutlery, moroccan lamps, vintage chandeliers, cushions and birdcages. We are not overly hungry and decide to create our own toast using the ‘sides’ menu with Chez Dee’s grain bread, avocado and roast tomato. We are pleased that our bespoke request is accommodated for and my lovely friend orders their Heal tea a combination of citrus warmness perfect for this day of downpour. Though our visit was short I leave with every intention of returning hopefully with my friend for a celebratory occasion of a momentous kind or even to bring my children’s great-grandmother who may receive her letter from the Queen soon. Whichever it might be Chez Dee is fitting for any kind of meeting or even somewhere where you lose yourself for a few hours to the papers, blogging or even reviewing.

Very good food, great décor(even the bathrooms are nicely decorated) and extremely accommodating owner. I heard that this place also does $ 8 Bloody Mary’s on Sundays, will have to try it out one day for breakfast ;)
