I’ve definitely moved on from my new-to-Sydney Kings Cross party days, but Club 21 is one place I’m willing to make an exception for. Tucked away in Kellet Street, which runs parallel to Darlinghurst Road, this place has taken over what was formerly known as Melt. The key is all in your timing — go too early and you’ll be the only ones there, go too late and it all just turns into a bit of a dirty grindfest(unless you’re into that sort of thing). Time it right, however, and it’s one hell of a fun place. The cocktails are good, the music is fun(think bad old R&B you can’t help but shake a tail feather to) and, perhaps most importantly, it’s close to taxis for a quick getaway.

There is a new kid on the block. He goes by the name ‘21’. He lives off the beaten path away from the bright lights and street walkers of Darlinghurst Road. He can shake, stir, muddle or build any cocktail your lips might want to drink. In short, he knows how to have a good time and if you come to visit, you will too. A self confessed ‘New York loft’, 21 is nothing less. The first level showcases a small and intimate bar complete with a balcony. Travelling upstairs brings you to the club. The wall is lined with dining booths and the end greats you with a full bar and a pumping dance floor. Old school hip hop and R&B beats blast from the speakers keeping the crowd dancing till all hours of the night. I hear they also have food on offer but who comes to the Cross to eat? The crowd is classy and at times a little too cool for school. But if you are indifferent to a little bit of snobbery then definitely give 21 a go.
