The World Bar

Went one night for now and the place is pretty nice you have the terrace an inside room with bar and dance floor and other room where there was deep house. Place is ok price are average.
I do not think I will go back security though is really rude and stupid.
I went out of the club and wanted to come back to see if my friend was inside as we were leaving. And then a guy from security without a world pull me back by the tee shirt. It was after 1:30 and as it was my first night in Sydney I had no idea about this rule.
I told him he could just had to tell me, he did not mind. Then an other security which was normal arrived said sorry and talk to me quickly.

While studying abroad the locals told us to be careful when going to Kings Cross. However, we went here for the alcoholic teapots and the phenomenal music! Put on your dancing shoes and prepare to wait in a line to get in.
The variety of dancefloors was filled with good vibes.

Meine Empfehlung– kommt direkt zur Öffnungszeit hin (4pm) kurz danach schwenkt die Sonne über die Terrasse ein (March) und es lässt sich hervorragend sein Bier oder Drink genießen!
Empfehlung II: es ist auch zum frühen Nachmittagsprogramm ein Hot Spot der Einheimischen die sich hier auf ein paar Bier treffen, aber auch Folks die immer da sitzen.
Freundliche und einfache Bedienung die die Nacht davor auch mitgemacht oder besser, gefeiert haben…

Es gibt auch eine Karte zum Essen, aber das habe ich ausgelassen.
Was die World Bar auch ist, es ist eine nächtliche Bar mit Dance Floors und guter Musik. Als ich später in der Nacht wieder daran vorbeigekommen bin, war das Ding packe voll und mit Club Vibes durchschallt! Ich bin ja Metalhead– daher sprechen mich solche Clubs nicht an — aber nun gut — als Bar für mich in den früheren Stunden hat’s mir gefallen

I had an amazing experience at The World Bar! With a great variety of dance floors and different bars the night has endless opportunities for a great night. A wide range of people and the atmosphere is awesome. Great drinks and the teapots are so delicious and so many to choose from.

The floor is always sticky, spilt drinks everywhere. Their pizzas were good but having said that, they just order the pizzas from around the corner and charge a premium for the service??? Pretty dodgy. If I knew that I’d just order pizza delivery and save half the price paid to world bar.
Music is good and that’s the only reason it didn’t get a 1 star rating from me.

I have only had amazing nights at Worldie! The amount of dance tunes and good vibes that come out of this one building are amazing. If you’re looking for a place to pick up a hottie this is the place. And not your usual, «oh god, the club lights made them look half decent» hot.
Legit hot.
I even met Black Jesus there.
That’s not to say there aren’t creepers, but the bouncers are super friendly and very approachable if you have any issues.
House beer/​wine is half decent, however teapots are the way to go. Always. Have each of your friends buy a different flavour teapot (I recommend Passionista), find a booth, sit down and decide on a direction. Pour a shot, drink, pass the teapot. Repeat until you’re all out. This never fails to get the night going, and get everyone ridiculously drunk.

This place is pretty fun with a playful niche. I really enjoyed my (somewhat pricey) beverage in a petite tea pot!
I had Montezuma’s Revenge. It was very strong and all I can remember about it was TEQUILA, TEQUILA, TEQUILA.
My friends had the Long Island Iced Tea (which was my fave out of the group) and Blue Hawaii (a tad sweet, as it should be).
The teapots range from $ 18 to $ 25 and there is one that is $ 50. The $ 18 teapots are about 1.5 drinks worth and you sip them out of super tiny cups.
It was fun! Especially on Halloween night. The crowd is a bit young (early 20s?), but I still had a great time!

You can order a pitcher of drinks in a teapot and serve all your friends «tea». Such a fun novelty. Fond memories here from 09.

Was always one of my favorite bars in Sydney just based on the novelty of the teapots. The location is awesomely in the Kings Cross area (awesome for the younger folks), so it’s super easy to get to. Those teapots were surprisingly affordable compared to their other drinks, and they do a good job of getting you to a happy place with the rush of alcohol and sugar they provide.
The venue can get insanely crowded really fast, but I guess that’s part of the fun. A negative is on some party nights, I was asked for a $ 20 cover. I immediately did an about face as I wasn’t about to pay that to get into a place like World Bar, which isn’t fancy at all. I went as far as $ 10 before, because where else can you get an alcoholic tea pot?

The World Bar, situated disturbingly close to the neon horrors of Kings Cross, is one hell of an oasis. It is known for its delightfully intoxicating ‘teapots’, where all manner of alcohol is brewed to the imbibers’ satisfaction.
Moreover, the drinks are complemented very nicely by subtly stylish décor, the likes of which you would be happy to find in any of Sydney’s nicer bars. Unlike many of its counterparts, World Bar is surprisingly good value.
I also found the staff very helpful — shine on, you crazy diamonds.

Great, friendly, passionate staff.
Your Nepalese dumplings (tried first time at a recent Elite party) are amazingly great. So is the tea.

Good Cross Happy Hour joint especially as the weather warms you can sit out the front smash a pack of ciggys responsible enjoy your 3.50 happy hour schooners of local beers between 5 and 7.
Not somehwere I’d spend the evening as the crowd is a bit younger and hipper then I and that make me look bad.

Like Danielle L. mentions, it really depends on the day/​night that you go to World Bar. For that reason, I’ll give it a neutral star-​rating at 3-​stars.
The first time, I went on a Thursday night, raging with teenagers everywhere who couldn’t get enough of the teapots. I vowed never to come on a Thursday night with its glory of sticky floors.
The second time, I ended up here on a Friday night. Oh gosh, why did I do that to myself? Yes, it was just like Thursday.
So I swore off World Bar for what I thought was good.
Then my friend said there was JAZZ NIGHT ON MONDAY! Believe me, I was shocked as well. I just couldn’t imagine World Bar running Jazz nights!!! Well, my cardigan wearing old soul absolutely loves it here on Jazz Monday Nights!!!
It transforms into a different place on Mondays (and probably other nights as well), with a more mature (read: older) crowd. Sometimes they have open mic and you can perform if that’s your thing or you can watch and enjoy the saxophone, piano, drums, cello, jazz singer and whatever other instruments and musicians they’ve got up there.
And there’s a fireplace that they actually use :) For Monday nights, you get 4 stars!

The World Bar is wears a numbers of different hats, depending on the time and day.
The Monday to Friday lunchtime crowd is mostly local business clientele for good value lunches —
Evenings mid week are a mix of locals and backpackers for the drink and meal specials, and by late evening it’s mostly just drunken backpackers with no work the next day dragging them home, who stay on till the early hours before stumbling to MCDonalds, and on to their hostel.
The place may be tolerated Monday to Friday — but come the weekend all bets are off. A snapshot of the strip of clubs outside, on Bayswater, sets the scene — it’s pure havoc, a bustling, messy crowd of young drunken revellers congregate waiting to gain entry, pushing, stumbling, fighting, screaming, squealing. Unless the above happens to be your scene avoid Friday and Saturday nights here at all cost!

Former maggot backpackers hangout the World Bar is reinventing itself as somewhat of an Arts supporter, finally growing up after years of serving cocktails in teapots and otherwise encouraging excessive drinking. Over recent times they’ve tried installing a gallery, a couple of stand-​up comedy nights, and the weekly night «Mum» features FBi’s DJ Jack Shit spinning tunes alongside other musical luminaries.
The Wednesday night PAN magazine launch I attended was in the small bar upstairs, and somehow they squeezed bands as well as punters in the tiny room, who also filled the balcony outside. I had a great time! It wasn’t that long ago I refused to set foot in the place but the crowd were sexy, the tunes were great, the drinks were affordable and the bathrooms were clean. I’m proud of ya Mum.

To me, there’s only one thing you need to know about World Bar.
They serve impressively strong cocktails in a teapot and give you tiny shooter cups to share the contents around your group of friends.
Seriously, what more do you want in a bar?

A lot of well-​spent youth at World Bar. A lot of shenanigans. A lot of hijinx. A lot of dancing. A lot of ridiculous claims made. A lot of movies watched silently on the big screens. A lot of times watching Big Trouble In Little China in one night. A lot of Kurt Russell.
There seems to be a little negative energy towards World Bar for some reason, but I can’t really fathom it. It does certainly fill up with backpackers; in fact, if the girl on the door asks, you are definitely from which ever foreign country you can best approximate an accent for. You’ll get a free drink! And there are folks like the guy who asked me what was in the upper room and after he was informed that it was «drum n bass», shouted in a very thick English accent «I *@#$%^& love droom and bayss!!!» and sprinted up the stairs.
But it’s fun, it’s filled with people, and the veranda is a nice place to hang out if you don’t mind secondhand smoke. The only negative remark I have is that the DJs never have «Big Poppa», «Mo Money Mo Problems» or any Biggie Smalls, for that matter. And that is worth a star.

You don’t need to be a mad hatter to appreciate the teapots at World Bar. Yes, the teapots are a bit of a novelty, but they’ve become a signature order for a good girl’s night out. They have a range of different flavours (most of them are quite sweet), but Tropicana is my all time favourite.
It’s definitely one of the first stops in the Cross once you’ve become a legal drinker i.e. there are plenty of younger people about. It also has it’s off days when the lines get ridiculous around 10ish, especially on a Friday and Saturday (but this is to be expected around most clubs in the Cross). They have a few rooms upstairs to sit and chill but these get pretty crowded and you’ll be lucky to hog a seat for a while. As soon as you get up to dance, it’ll be gone. Still, who’s to say you can’t stand up and hold your teapot in one hand, while you pour shots in the other. But be careful, more than a few of these pots and you’ll be giggling all the way to tipsyland.

This is one of my absolute favourite places to go and relax. Or go wild, as the case may be.
Although the entry is a little steep for a student such as myself ($ 25), it’s worth it. The crowd is so friendly, I almost always end up making friends right there in the line to get in!
Whether I’m in the mood for just a sit-​down and a chat, or in the mood for dancing and picking-​up, World meets all my needs. There’s a lovely outdoor area where you can smoke, drink and chat (or if you don’t smoke, where you can inhale the heady, cancerous clouds wafting your way) in relative comfort. There’s also a balcony upstairs for the same purpose, except the music up there is a little less intense than the music downstairs.
If you’re in the ‘let-​my-​hair-​down’ kind of mood, there’s two or three distinct rooms inside playing different music, all upbeat and conducive to shaking one’s arse vigorously. Expect to be gathered up affectionately by (probably pinging) strangers for a quick sway here and there as you walk through the dancefloor.
The bathrooms can get a little, shall we say, roughed-​up, but nothing intolerable.
All in all, I always enjoy a night here, and well, if you don’t like it, there’s always the rest of the Cross right across the road!

This bar has all the ingredients of my favourite type of bars. Perhaps it’s the proximity to all the Kings Cross smut that makes arriving at this pub feel like a warm and protective embrace, or maybe a home embassy in a war torn country… too far?! To be fair, Bayswater Road is actually a fairly smart road of hotel bars so the World bar isn’t a complete sore thumb.
It’s not only that the World bar is purely smart though, it’s got an indie edge with quirky wall illustrations and cocktails served in their signature teapots. Like a Narnian cupboard, function rooms gradually materialise too, giving punters the opportunity to listen to an up-​and-​coming band or make shapes on the smoky dancefloor to drum and bass depending on their mood.
Sadly all this stylized mystery disintegrates during the weekend and the bar becomes the haunt for pissed under-​agers, my advice is to stick to weekdays.

World Bar is the default place that people from Sydney always seem to end up. It’s located in a nice old terrace building just a short walk from the heart of Kings Cross. World Bar was traditionally a place for backpackers and travellers visiting Sydney however this has shifted to becoming much more of a Sydney institution. You still do meet a lot of people from overseas, which makes it really great to chat to people from all over.
The music has always been a major draw card for this place with 4 levels each with its own individual style. The first level plays R&B, the back room has electro (doof doof!), while up stairs has much more chilled out tunes. If you want to chat with friends then definitely head upstairs or the balcony on the first level.
The best night of the week is Saturday when Wham run the night. The cover is usually between $ 15 and $ 25. Drinks are a little on the expensive side but not ridiculous. If you go to World Bar, then you have to get their trademark Teapots (Fruit tingle is my favorite).
I can’t count the number of times I’ve been to World Bar over the years (at least 50+ times!). I have had mostly positive experiences here and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a big night out in the Cross. Lately though, I have noticed a little bit of a change in the friendliness of the staff and security (perhaps it was just the winter blues).
