Pleasant café with great outlook over the pier. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We just had coffees, which were of good quality, and looking around could see plenty of people enjoying very nice breakfasts. Definitely worth checking out, and Port Melbourne is a very pleasant area to spend the day!

At the half way point of our bike ride we found ourselves at Port Melbourne. Boy has this place improved. Full of lovely caves, apartments overlooking the water and lovely at atmosphere. We stopped here to eat and I had a delicious and fresh tuna roll along with a great coffee. If you know my reviews, you’ll know I rate palace very high if it makes great coffee. But the service is also good and friendly. Prices make this one of the better options at Port Melbourne.

Great location but ambiance lacks when the sun isn’t out. A café with no newspapers, come on guys — newspapers are essential. On the up side, this café welcomes dogs unlike nearby Hollyhock. Blackbird will bring a water bowl for each dog which is very sweet. My poached eggs on sour dough was ok but the bread would have benefited from more toasting. My husband enjoyed his Spanish eggs. Blackbird has a gelateria which would be great in summer. To help with the ambiance some quiet music playing might be a good idea. Other improvements would be having salt and pepper on the table. Service was friendly and efficient.
