I admit to being ashamed to have never been here before — especially as an ardent and passionate Port frequenter. But the truth is — I hadn’t until yesterday. The afternoon was perfect with the sun blazing down and warming the freezing cold air, and the setting was tranquil amidst the tall ships. So — to eat. The menu looked very comprehensive and deliciously tempting. I wasn’t there for a major meal, just a quick meeting with our beloved CM, so something small and sweet beckoned(and I’m not talking about our CM here — who is both of those things!) I wanted chocolate. It’s my right as a human being. So a ‘Smuckers Chocolate Fudge’it was. The owner and chef Sylv, took my order and the pancakes arrived a short time later looking very edible! The pancakes themselves were fluffy and delicious, however the chocolate sauce that they’d been dribbled with looked a bit insipid, and the first taste confirmed that the sauce used had probably come from one of those plastic bottles of sauce that you can buy in any supermarket. Disappointing. I’d hoped for a thick home-made sauce if truth be known. It even tasted watery. The whole thing was very tasty, don’t get me wrong, but I was definitely upset with the sauce. The pancakes came with a sufficient dollop of delicious vanilla ice-cream and I’d ordered some extra fresh cream to go with it. For 2 pancakes with sauce and creams it cost $ 15. Is that good value? I’m not really sure to be honest — but I think I’ll need to go back to taste one of their savoury pancakes(of which the menu is plentiful) to make up my mind further. The location of Pancakes At The Port cannot be faulted — it’s wonderful. And after a day shopping at the various local markets, a stop here would be ideal. It’s open from 8am-4pm every day but does tend to get very busy at weekends, and consequently they don’t take bookings. Best thing you can do is try it — see what you think and write your own review.

Just had breakfast here with my parents. Mum and I had a stack(3) pancakes with maple syrup. Dad had the Aussie damper roll(egg and bacon) The pancakes weren’t the best I’ve ever had but I ate them all. Dads looked a bit pathetic. They both had coffee but when I asked the staff if they had lactose free milk they looked at me like I was speaking another language. Who doesn’t have lactose free milk or dairy free these days? Staff weren’t too concerned about the cleaning of tables and customer service isn’t at the top of their list. Only come here if you have no other option. I can make a better breakfast.

Yummo! This place is the tops! After having some terrible pancake experiences at a few wanky café’s recently(I’m looking at you The Store!) it was nice to eat at a place that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Generous serves of golden fluffy goodness(I had the bavarian apple and mi amor had the blueberry) the pancakes came with just enough topping and plenty of icecream on the side. Whilst my flat white wasn’t the best(I’m a bit of a coffee snob though) the pancakes were damn fine! Also considering it was quite busy and the staff looked as if they had barely hit puberty, those kids did a bloody good job to get the drinks and food out really quickly. If you’re there on a Sunday don’t forget to hit up the Port Markets! You will almost overdose on ‘Beanie Babies’ but you may just pick up a few treasures at a bargain price. Pancakes yeah! 4 stars.

I went here earlier this year and wasn’t impressed with the level of service and the quality of the food. I had a milkshake and I am not sure what they did to it but it tasked like the milkshake machine died and leaked oil into my drink. I have heard good things about this place before however I have not experienced the quality that I have heard of from others.
