Needing a meat fix I headed to a local of mine, Yiannis on Port Quay. Name sounds fancy doesn’t it? but when you walk in, it’s anything but fancy, it’s just a simple take away joint with a plenty of seating if you wish to dine in. On the menu is lamb yiros, chicken yiros and pork yiros… don’t forget your combo yiros. Don’t let that deter you, trust me it is all you need when you walk out of this blue and white establishment. The meat is succulent and juicy on the inside with a delicious charred flavour on the outside, all encased in a soft yiros bread. The salad of lettuce, tomato and onion on the inside is not skimpy, nor is the meat. The garlic sauce was good, it’s hard to get that balance of too little or too much sauce, I think any more and my yiros would have been swimming in the bottom of the bag. However, I like my sauce garlicky and it could have done with just a little more. For $ 10 a yiros they are a decent size and you will be full and satisfied. If in the port head on down to Yiannis, you will go in a trance watching that charred meat spin around the rotisserie above the coals.

The best Yiros in Adelaide is undoubtedly Yianni’s On Hindley, but less than two years ago Yianni’s expanded into Port Adelaide to spread their meaty deliciousness to the Port Canal area. Every Tuesday I am excited to visit Port Adelaide on business because of the delicious taste of Yianni’s Greek Yiros on Commercial Road. My order is ALWAYS the same; two Lamb Yiros with the lot & Sriracha(hot sauce). Every time I take my clients to Yiannis they can never fill up on their delectable Yiros selection, ranging from Lamb, Chicken and Pork(ask for the combo!) in a wrap to take-away or available on a plate, which I highly recommend for eat-ins because of the generous servings. The only tip I can give you is to visit the store between 11am(opening) and 1pm before the establishment run out of meat and have to re-skewer more in order to feed the hungry tradies & business-men that frequent the area. There’s not much else to say besides BRINGCASH because of no Eftpos. But there is a pub across the road with an ATM so it’s not a hassle. Yianni’s in the CBD on Hindley is the best Yiros in town. The store at Port Adelaide comes in a VERY close second. And at $ 9.00 per Yiros, this meal is a quality DEAL. (Open until 8pm for Summer hours)
