This was my first time going to a comedy club. Who doesn’t enjoy a laugh? $ 20 for some live comedy seemed like a bargain, considering what you pay for a movie ticket these days! Lazy Susan’s is in The Brisbane Hotel, upstairs. It does certainly feel like a comedy«den» which I guess is what they’re going for. The MC, Ben Sutton, I found to be the funniest of all the performers there. One comedian annoyed me — I think preaching your political beliefs on stage is cheap and tactless, personally. He was the letdown of the evening, for sure. Other than that it was a new and fun way to spend a Friday night. I’ll probably visit some other venues before I make a return, just so I can form a more well rounded opinion of Perth’s comedy scene, but this was a good start for me. Definitely something everybody should try.

The Big Hoo-Haa is a weekly improvisational comedy event at Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den at The Brisbane. Every Saturday night two teams take the stage and battle it out ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway?’ style while the audience shout out suggestions and vote for the team they think is doing more awesome. And that’s a tough call. The Hoo-Haa improvisers are world class comedians, and you’re guaranteed laughing-til-milk-comes-out-of-your-nose hysterics every time. I had the pleasure of attending the last show of the year last night and it didn’t disappoint. Violent strippers, aliens that can’t mime, and lizard smuggling is all in a night’s work at the Hoo-Haa. The Hoo-Haa returns next year on the 7th of January — don’t miss it!
