One of the better Indian restaurants on the City’s fringe. A pretty standard menu with nothing especially special but I would highly recommend to try the Coriander Chicken Tikka. Authentic and decently priced.

This was a really great place to eat. The service was friendly and very efficient we didn’t have to wait very long. We ate in and the restaurant was really nice. There were even private rooms that you could book if you wanted. Food was really tasty such nice flavours and well priced. I got the Chef’s special of paneer tikka masala it was $ 15.90 and was one of the most expensive. Vegetarian meals were only $ 8.90 and the meat dishes were around $ 14. I also got chilli cheese naan which was amazing spicy and cheesy. Takeaway menu looked good aswell and was really reasonably priced. Will definitely go back to raj on taj.

I’ve been to Raj for both take away and eat in. The restuarant is seperated intotwo room and If you’re eating in the restaurant I would suggest asking for a table in the room without the cash register as you will have more space, and the people waiting for their takeaway won’t hungrily leer at your food. Also If you’ve got a large group I would also recommend one of the private rooms they have on offer. The meal starts with free pappadams which is a big tick for me. We brought our own wine, which after looking at the drinks menu I wouldn’t suggest, as it was $ 10 corkage for the bottle and the drinks on the menu were pretty cheap amnyway. The food itself was delicious, they have a range of dishes, from their signature jaipur dishes to your usual korma etc. I got the Jaipur Dhaal which was full of lentils kidney beans and plenty of sauce to dip my pappadam. The other diners with me got the mattar paneer, paneer korma, beef korma and cheesy naan. They were all happy with their dishes. The next big tick for this place is cost. my main was $ 7.90, and rice only $ 2. So before splitting corkage I had spent less than a tenner. The takeaway is equally as delicious and inexpensive. You can order online or phone in. The staff are friendly and helpful. In terms of Vegan/Vegetarian friendliness, there are over 10 veggie options on the menu, and the ones I have had so far were delicious.

I have only had take out from Raj on Taj and we had the facilities to order online and pick it up. However, we seemed to have paid $ 3 more paying online then on the menu we took away with us. When I calmed from that bombshell and realised I didn’t have enough for my coffee tomorrow — I tucked into the ‘You’n’me’ meal — 2 Mains, 1 Vegetable dish, 1 Large rice, 2 Plain Naan and 1 papadam(actually heaps of papadams) for $ 30(or $ 33 for ol’ gullible me). When I say, ‘I’ tucked into it, I mean me and someone else. We got the Rogan Josh, Korma and the Mattar Paneer(Cottage cheese & peas simmered in a creamy cashew and almond sauce). I never expected it but the vegetarian option was my favourite. It has had heaps of flavour and the texture of the cottage cheese was perfect. Well, i’m just gushing now, but I really enjoyed my meal, even if it did make me feel sleepy from overeating. And now I can’t even afford a coffee.

I’m sure the food is great but I didn’t stick around long enough to sample it as I had the most bizarre experience here. The time I went the restaurant was full of male staff, and they proceeded to act in a very pervy, inappropriate way. I was wearing a white top and I’m not exactly small-chested, but a few of them even came out of the kitchen to look and smile. My boyfriend was so annoyed and I was so disgusted we took off and I’ve been put off for life now. In a nutshell — WTF?

I like to think of this as the secretly better Raj compared to the one on King William Rd. Had some great Indian here such as the Chicken Korma which knocked me off my feet with flavour. They have a ton of special deals for groups, never skimping on ways to give you delicious naan bread and pappadams. They also offer delivery which is a great choice when moving from the couch seems impossible.

When Tandoori Oven on Unley Road closed, I was a little lost. I tried a few other indian places nearby, but none had the same depth of flavour at my old favourite. While lamenting my dilemmas at a dinner one night, the group almost in chorus said, «Raj on Taj!!!» Hyde Park is the bigger and more popular venue, but I love the second store at Parkside. The restaurant has a lovely fit out, with those warm heaters outside, but I get my food to go. The kitchen is open and pumping. I love seeing the chefs at work. They do a special ‘Just for me’ for $ 16 which is a really good deal. You get 1 main, 1 veg, 1 plain naan, pappadams and rice. I choose the rogan josh, deal or swag paneer and upgrade my naan to cheese. This meal usually does me for dinner and lunch the next day. I think there’s a ‘Just for two’ deal as well, but Indian to me, is a solo affair and I’m not sharing my cheese naan with anyone!
