I really love giving 5 star reviews and seldom often do I get to give them, last night I had a meal that truly deserved it. My girlfriend and I have had takeaway from here before and I was keen to dine in. Raj on Taj is a lovely little place just off King William Rd in Hyde Park. It’s pokey yet spacious, quiet yet with great ambience. Staff are very polite and friendly, fantastic table service. Two curries, small rice and three sides as well as 2 drinks was reasonably priced. Classic chicken Korma and lamb Rogan Josh was very tasty, the thigh chicken is separated into 4 larger pieces which fall apart when touched, the lamb is cooked to perfection as well. Both curries are fresh and full of spice, Raita and mango chutney are both lovely as well. Little things like complimentary pappadams, fairy lights in the undercover area and an open fire are little things that just add to the experience of a nice dinner. There are always those little things that you could think could be better but nothing worth a star, very impressed definitely will be returning!

Food was ok. Servings are rather small for the price you pay. 2 bits of meat in a reservoir of sauce. Essentially you pay for a bowl of gravy. Anyway, what really spoilt the night was the incompetent employee who told us we could not get discount on a SDA membership which would have been a $ 30 discount on our bill, only to find out later we were entitled to the discount. Gee thanks for ripping us off…

This place is not bad. The food is dine in or take away so you can’t expect too much. It is pretty much what you would get at most Indian restaurants. It has nice outdoor lighting if your in a romantic mood. The inside has a cool swinging chair, a water fountain, and arches but an old cottage feel. The dishes were mostly good except for the goat masala, it had way too many bones. Beware. The cheese and garlic naan is interesting, not sure if I’d choose it again. The staff were alright but I think they need more in busy times.

You move to a new neighborhood. You are hungry. Who are you going to call? Not Raj on Taj. My utopian dreams came crashing when I ordered take away. They have fantastic deals(as in lots of food in a very reasonably priced combo). Ordered one of these combos with lamb korma, Saag Paneer, naan, roti,(all for $ 19). Ate the korma first, very salty and the spices were off(as-in-too-much-cumin off). Next, the Saag was sad. The paneer reminded me of mozzarella bricks. no flavor, too bland. I tried very hard to finish it, but I decided to stop else I would start gagging. The Roti was fine, the naan quite nice. But those idyllic dreams of a lazy evening eating takeaway indian will have to be rebuilt as the search continues for a decent place.

We dined at Raj on Taj on a Sunday(eve of a public holiday) at 5.45pm with two kids under 4 and we were greeted warmly and a high chair was supplied quickly. We sat inside near the window to the right of the door. The décor was lovely and with the fireplace lit, it created a very nice ambiance. I think it would suit even date nights! The restaurant got quite busy with couples, families and groups of people of varying age groups by the time we left. The menu had all the dishes one would expect from a good Indian restaurant and the flavours were very good! I’d recommend the goat masala as both my husband and I just couldn’t get enough of it. Not the healthiest dish, as with all the curries we ordered but I guess one needs to use quite a bit of oil in order to cook such flavoursome spices. A small compromise for such delicious food(lol!). The naans were nice and fluffy, although the kashmiri naan was very boring — only sultanas. I was expecting a variety of dried fruits, maybe some almonds, or even some toasted shredded coconut. The prices for the dishes were very reasonable. Wine list was interesting enough, and better than I expected for a neighbourhood Indian restaurant. Service was friendly, welcoming and warm. They also made my little people feel comfortable and didn’t make a fuss when my 18 mth old got a wee bit messy. Food arrived in a timely manner. Definitely will be back and also order take-away from Raj on Taj.

Good quality, unpretentious, tasty Indian food. We live nearby, so this is our local Indian place when we can’t be bothered cooking and just want to pick something up to take home on the way to work, and it always hits the mark. That description is probably selling it a little short — it’s not like it’s a tiny Indian takeaway joint, it’s a quality restaurant too. A tip for iPhone users too — you can order and pay for your meal with the free NoQ app and specify a time you want to pick it up. Often I will order it when I leave work, and it is ready to pick up on the way home. Super convenient.

Raj on Taj definitely serves some of the best Indian food I’ve tried in Adelaide. I don’t know what’s authentic, but the spice is great and I would imagine is closer to authentic than a lot of Indian food around the city. I had chana masala, alu mattar, garlic naan, and rice. I loved the mains and the naan, but I’m giving them 4 stars because the rice was a little crunchy(c’mon guys!). I will definitely be back despite the rice, but might make my own rice and order the mains and naan for take away. :)

My wife and I tried Raj on Taj for the first time tonight. We’re both vegetarian, so Indian is always a good option. She almost always gets the Chana Masala wherever we go so that’s what she did this time and was pleased with what they managed. I picked the Alu Mattar, which I’ve eaten at multiple Indian restaurants and even had a poor attempt at making myself. I’ve gotta say that after reading many positive reviews I wasn’t let down. It’s possibly one of the best Indian restaurants that I’ve been to around Adelaide. I can only base this off my one experience and my vegetarian meals, but when Indian restaurants get one meal right they generally get them all right from my observations. So I gave them a 5⁄5 but I want to give some very small nit-picking critiques. The steamed rice was a bit dry. The garlic naan I ordered was maybe a little undercooked and doughy, the papadums a little brittle. I might just be used to greasy and fried naan, different thicker papadums and they were actually how they were meant to be. I don’t pretend to know what is authentic, I just like what I like. I smashed every last bit of my meal regardless. Good stuff!!! Very affordable, decent portions, nice sauce and spice. I had takeaway but the venue looks cozy and I may have to dine-in next time.

*drool* If you’ve been following my reviews, you’ve probably heard me talk about how much I love Indian food, if not, I LOVEINDIANFOOD! Raj on Taj has always had brilliant food. I can’t say much more about the place than the other reviewers have said but I would totally agree, MAKESUREYOUBOOKAHEAD! Dining in is a nice night out but don’t expect to just walk in. I guess that means it’s a place worth visiting :-) Happy eating friends!

I love Raj! My brother lives right across the street from this restaurant so we order in whenever I get down there to visit. I’m a big fan of Indian food and Raj ticks all the right boxes, the dishes are cooked to perfection, the service is fast and the servings are generous. A meal deal for 2 will easily feed three, so its pretty fairly priced and you get to choose which dishes u have in that package too which makes me so happy! The Mango Lassi is simply divine and The Rogan Josh is also commendable oh and the Garlic Naan… just do it. I will say, although I don’t eat in at Raj, it’s always plenty packed, so book ahead and come early because depending on the night, you may have problems getting a park.

One of my best friends is Indian and knows her food; so if you don’t trust my judgement, trust hers. Needless to say Raj on Taj was her top pick when my group of friends decided on Indian for dinner. Located on King William Road in Hyde Park, Raj on Taj provides the right cosy environment needed when enjoying Indian cuisine. Having gone on a Friday night, the restaurant was packed both in doors and out. Luckily we booked a table prior to dining, and I suggest based on my experience that a reservation is always made. As far as butter chicken goes, theirs is delicious. I also tried their lamb korma, special egg plant dish, naan bread and mango lassi. All of which were wonderful. For convenience you may want to note that there is also a second Raj on Taj restaurant located on Unley Road. As far as I am aware both Raj on Taj’s are owned by the same people and boast the same delicious menu. Enjoy!
