Specialties
Breakfast and lunch made to order plus a special seasonal Sunday brunch menu make Espresso Train the place to visit in Nundah. Try chef’s perfectly poached free-range eggs and butchers bacon or tuck into our homemade burgers and bakes.
Fresh sandwiches, wraps and salads made using real ingredients including ham off-the-bone smoked in Geebung. Our free-range chicken, avocado, lettuce, swiss cheese and mayonnaise rolls are second to none — made magic by Ian’s handmade mayo.
Aroma’s Premium Organic coffee is expertly prepared, coupled with delicious Cooloolah milk. Sourcing local, quality ingredients is important to us.
We make everything on-premises including cakes, slices, biscuits and pastry. It keeps us busy and our workers love seeing the food they make being enjoyed.
History
Established in 1998.
Espresso Train is a social enterprise initiative of Nundah Community Enterprises Co-operative has provided meaningful employment for people with intellectual disabilities and mental health issues since it was established. We are a real café, doing real good at the local level.
The not for profit organisation started as a jobs club for people who were finding it difficult to gain employment, and opened the café around 10 years ago at the request of members who were interested in working in hospitality. As a co-operative, our employees are our members and therefore have a say and a role in the running of the organisation.
The café is socially responsible, strives to be financially viable and aims to be environmentally sustainable. For example by sourcing local, seasonal and ethical ingredients like free-range chicken and eggs. The co-op generates almost enough solar energy to power the café and is working to reduce electricity usage to be cost neutral. We recycle and compost waste.
