Sakura Sushi

Really? I thought this store was okay. Judging from the other reviews, I guess not?
My experiences here have always been okay. Average. Not too bad, but far from outstanding. They’re always very friendly though, which earns them three stars.
I pretty much always get the same thing at sushi bars: prawn tempura, avo and cucumber, spicy tuna, and the occasional smoked salmon or something like that. I’m pretty boring at sushi bars. Not because I don’t like sushi, salmon or any other fish — I loooove seafood — I just don’t trust every sushi bar I frequent. Basically, I only fully trust Sushi Train.
So I guess because I always get standard flavours, I’m not really expecting much. Yes, the place isn’t really attracting customers and the lack of turnover concerns me. But it’s never made me feel sick, so I’ll probably keep getting pre-​movie sushi when I feel like it.

I’ve got to agree with the other reviewers out there: Sakura has a decent selection but they just aren’t fresh enough.
There’s lots of competition out there when it comes to sushi, especially on the Parade at Norwood — 4 different places and apparently a new one is about to open up near Mary Martin’s. So there really is no excuse not to pull up your socks and make the best sushi possible.
Unfortunately for Sakura, they just aren’t competitive enough. I recently ordered a chicken and a salmon roll here and the seaweed was chewy and it didn’t taste fresh, essential when it comes to raw fish. They have a monopoly on the movie going crowds, so they should make the most of it!

Sakura Sushi Bar is average at best. Until recently it was the only sushi place on the parade, so you didn’t have much choice if you wanted sushi. It is very convenient, right near the cinema if you want a quick snack. There is not a massive range of sushi at Sakura, but there are all the favourites. Last time I went I grabbed a couple of vegetarian rolls. They satisfied my sushi craving, but they tasted old. They definitely didn’t taste like they had just been made, they were dry and the seaweed was hard to bite through. For someone reason the rolls were also slightly warm, definitely not improving their taste or texture.
I wouldn’t recommend going to Sakura, unless it really is your last resort. Although it definitely is a lot cheaper than buying the snacks provided at the cinema.

I’ve eaten a lot of sushi around Adelaide. Countless sushi rolls have passed through my gullet, and I’ve come to the conclusion that a key factor in making good sushi is keeping it cold.
Unfortunately this store must be trying to save money for their no doubt excessive rent, as their sushi is generally room temperature.
Not warm, but certainly not cold.
The sushi itself tastes good enough, but the temperature ruins the texture.
When the seaweed is not cold enough, it becomes chewy and tough.
It results in ruined sushi rolls, with chunks of rice and raw salmon crumbling into your thin plastic container.
This store is generally a last resort lunch option.
