Such a great little pizza shop. Awesome atmosphere — but get there early as they fill up pretty fast. I love the prawn pizza!

Pizza was good, not great but we enjoyed it, however there are two things that will probably stop me going back. There is nothing on the window that we could see(and we looked!) to indicate whether this place is licensed, byo or both. My son popped in to ask, byo was the answer and we went and bought a bottle of wine. If we had been told it was also licensed I would have happily ordered from the wine list, it was not mentioned, neither was the extortionate $ 9 corkage we were charged. The lacklustre service began with the very bald door greeting of «is an hour and a half enough time to eat your meal?» Really? Most places manage the re-set issue without having you sign a contract of departure before you sit down. The friendliness did not pick up from there, and while we certainly finished well within our allocted time frame, we apparently still needed to have the bill slammed down on our table as the door guardian ran past. Meine Liebe, no not feeling the love.

Overrated. The first time I ate at Pizza Meine Liebe I almost chipped a tooth because they didn’t pit the olives. I had the choice of gingerly chewing mouthfuls of pizza and spitting out the pips(no thanks!) or cutting open the olives and coaxing the seeds out before eating. On the second visit we asked to be moved because the noise levels in the back room made conversation impossible, due to one very noisy party who were literally screaming at each other, and the waitress made a very snide comment about being asked to find another table for four. That time around I noticed that the menu actually says in small lettering that they have deliberately chosen not to pit their olives, so don’t ask them to.(I ran this by some Italian friends and they were understandably horrified.) The pizza bases are OK — thin, crispy — but don’t be fooled into thinking this place is anything special. They want you in and out ASAP and they’re not shy about saying so.

Best pizza in Northcote… and possibly best in all of Melbourne. Consistently good. Perfect crunchy, flakey, chewy pizza base. Interesting toppings with quality produce used. My picks — Eggplant Pizza, Azpaz with pancetta and the Black Rock(with smoked salmon & roe).

Lots of good reviews led me to Pizza meine lieben(not sure of the German connection). However, I wasn’t super impressed with the quality of the pizza, at least in comparison to some of the other pizza that I have had in my time on the planet. A Margherita and a Buffalo Soldier(prosciutto pizza in the Italian style) were fine, but the tomato wasn’t anything special, and the base was a little undercooked. So, I am glad I tried it, but I am unlikely to buy from there again. There is way too much competition in the neighbourhood.

pizza my love, indeed. with much competition, this is still my favourite melbourne pizza place. the options are plentiful, and food envy is guaranteed as every pizza you see will make you drool! don’t be intimidated by the small front — the restaurant extends back and also has a cool outdoors area for summer nights

I asked my friend who is a regular here for recommendation. His response was«everything on the menu is good». Well that’s not helpful, friend! There’s about 40 variety and then some. Geez. Luckily there were 9 of us, 3 kids had basically the same thing(creature of habit they are) but waiter was happy to listen to each child’ variation of the pizza. There are 2 sizes to choose from, most people will be satisfied with the small, which isn’t that small at all. It is a really busy place, when I booked our table I was told that we had to leave by certain time, but no one asked us to leave when we stayed over the time stated. I can see that service can be hit and miss. Luckily for us we had nothing but a good time. The chef gave our kids pizza dough to keep them entertained and then wrapped them afterwards to take home, carefully wrapping around the«pizza toppings». Save space for the BANANASPLIT. bananas, ice cream, passion fruit and a shot of dark chocolate. The owner of this place knows what she’s doing. Good food sells.

When working and living near Northcote, talking to locals about Pizza Meine Liebe can bring out the food critic in everyone. I’ve heard everything from ‘it’s like over-priced Pizza Hut’ to ‘best pizza in Melbourne’. Wednesday night came along and the bf and I had no desire to cook. Unfortunately, the waitress at Pizza Meine Liebe seemed to have no desire to seat us either. We asked for a table for two and her response was an annoyed«Alright, as long as you’re out by 8.» We were seated at a tiny and cramped table that we had to push back and forth in order to sit down. We wound up ordering two pizzas to share — one buffalo soldier(prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella) and the bomb(calzone with meatballs and four types of cheese). Service was very quick and the portion sizes were huge. We could barely fit our two pizzas on the table. The buffalo soldier was delicious — just the right amount of prosciutto to add a salty kick without it being too overpowering. The calzone had generous-sized meatballs that were packed with onions and garlic… delicious! Lots of cheese and sauce, but without the soggy crust. I’m not sure how we managed to finish off two large pizzas, but we left feeling stuffed and happy. We felt rushed to leave while finishing our drinks, even though it was only 7.30. After practically crawling under the table to leave, we encountered a second, equally rude, waitress who seemed to consider it a personal insult that we’d like to pay our bill. After experiencing Pizza Mein Liebe for myself, I feel like I can see where both the positive and negative reviews are coming from. Personally, I thought the pizzas were delicious, but the staff were cold and unwelcoming. The pizzas were cooked quickly and we were in and out within an hour. In the future, I think I’d try heading next door to Joe’s Shoe Store, or ordering ahead for takeaway.

Like any successful pizza recipe, Pizza Meine Liebe keeps things simple but well constructed. This tiny 40 seater restaurant takes it’s pizza seriously. Their dough is freshly made, soft and crispy at the same time. They use good cheeses and great toppings. In fact the only thing you could really fault with their pizza is the fact that they aren’t perfectly round. Understandably Pizza Meine Liebe is always busy and it is a very small venue. So it can be quite difficult to get a seat at times. They do take bookings, however. Their pizzas aren’t exactly cheap at $ 12 – 16 for a 10 inch base and $ 17-$ 22 for a 12 inch base. But it really is an example of paying for quality with Meine Liebe. You certainly won’t be left dissapointed with the quality and flavour fo your pizza. They also are a BYO venue with a $ 4 corkage charge per person.

I’d never been asked to ‘Keep it down’ in a restaurant before, but at Pizza Meine Liebe, my friends and I got so excited over the dessert pizza the other patrons started to complain. I don’t know what their problem was — if they were eating what we were eating they would have screamed just as much. The ‘regular’ pizzas are pretty awesome too. They do quality toppings in just the right quantity on thin, crispy bases. I’m a big fan of the salmon roe as it is unlike anything you get elsewhere. I’ve heard people complain about the wine list here, but I’ve always done BYO wine and had a merry time of it. Another major tick for Pizza Meine Liebe is that they offer gluten-free bases — I’m not gluten intolerant myself, but I don’t mind sharing these pizzas with friends who are because they don’t taste like cardboard. The service at Pizza Meine Liebe can be a bit hit-and-miss depending on how busy they are. If you’re coming on a Friday or Saturday night, I’d recommend booking ahead and having a little pre-dinner snack, as sometimes the food can take a while to arrive.
